Supporting nomadic families earn their living…..

In the past the nomadic tribes survived the generosity of the people they looked after. The respect between the communities was mutual. Once the crops were harvested the famers kept the share for the nomadic families of their regions. There was no grudge against these families. They also had a right over the produce. These days however, these communities are asked to work and earn their living, the practice of sharing food grains with them is hardly followed. The families also do not like to go an ask for food but prefer to work and earn living. 

Jethabhai a resident of Diyodar earned living by playing Ravanhatta but people kept telling him to work and earn so he decided to start selling cosmetics and artificial jewellery to earn living. He requested us to support him in buying a hand cart. He did not want charity instead was willing to work hard and pay back the loan. VSSM lent Rs. 5500 for the purchase of hand cart. The business is doing well, Jethabhai makes a daily profit of Rs. 200 to 250. The loan is paid back by EMI of Rs. 500. He is a happy man. “ I am extremely thankful to VSSM  otherwise who gives an interest free loan? But the organisation put faith in us and gave us the required amount is extremely gratifying. My family is delighted with the progress we are making,” says  Jethabhai. 

Similarly Chetanbhai Kangasiya and Shravanbhai Kangaisya were daily wage earners and getting work everyday was not possible. There were days when they had to remain workless. Their request VSSM was for a hand cart to ferry goods from main wholesale market to retail shops around the town. VSSM supported for the purchase of a hand cart. Their daily earning is an average of Rs. 300. “ We knew the organisation and when the talks or support were on we just wished they would charge less interest hence, were surprised when they loan offered to us was absolutely interest free. All money lenders these days are interested in earning hefty interest. No one bothers if we are poor who cannot afford such interest rates. We can’t thank you all enough for supporting us,” says Chetanbhai. 

Dineshbhai set up fruit kiosk near Diyodar bus stop with the support of VSSM. The hand cart he bought is also used to ferry goods and parcels from the bus station to its destination. He too makes around Rs. 300 daily. 

All of the individuals mentioned above pay Rs. 500 as EMI. The money keeps rotating as we continue to support more and more families from the loans that are paid back. We are thankful to State Bank of India (SBI) and respected Ms. Bhartiben Prajapati . The support they have provided is spent to help families earn a dignified living. There are still hundreds of families who are willing to work hard and carve a better future for their children. Hoping for more such support…….

વિચરતા સમુદાયોને પગભર કરવાના પ્રયાસો.....‘મારે લારી મફત નથી જોઈતી'

ખેતીની સિઝનમાં ખેડૂત ખેતરમાંથી ધાન ઘરે લાવે એ વખતે ભરથરી, બજાણિયા, રાવળ વગેરે જેવી વિચરતી જાતિના લોકો બાંધેલા ગરાસના ગામોમાં ખેડૂતોના ઘરે જતા અને તેમને સૌ માનભેર એમનો હક છે, એમ માની અનાજ આપતા. પણ હવે જમાનો બદલાયો છે લોકો હવે આ પરિવારોને મહેનત કરીને ખાવા કહે છે. જમાનાને ધ્યાનમાં રાખી આ પરિવારોએ પણ યાચક બનવા કરતા સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાયો પસંદ કરવા માંડ્યા છે.

બનાસકાંઠાના દિયોદરમાં રહેતા જેઠાભાઈ ભરથરી રાવણહ્થ્થો વગાડી યાચવાનું કામ કરતા. પરંતુ, ઉપર જણાવ્યા પ્રમાણે લોકો મહેનત કરી કમાવવાની સલાહ આપ્યા કરે, આખરે તેમણે યાચવાનું બંધ કરવાનું નકકી કર્યું. એમણે શૃંગારપ્રસાધનો વેચવા માટે લારીની મદદ કરવા આપણને અરજી કરી. એમણે કહ્યું, ‘મારે લારી મફત નથી જોઈતી, હું તમને હપ્તે હપ્તે પૈસા પાછા આપીશ.’ સામે ચાલીને મહેનત કરવાની કોઈ વાત કરે તો એ સમયે એને મદદ કરવી જોઈએ તેવું vssm માને છે. એટલે આપણે જેઠાભાઈને લારી આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.

આપણે આ પરિવારને રૂ.૫૫૦૦ ની લારી આપી. આ લારીમાં જેઠાભાઈએ શૃંગાર પ્રસાધનો વેચવાનું શરુ કર્યું છે. જેમાં તેમને રોજના રૂ. ૨૦૦ થી રૂ. ૨૫૦ સુધીનો નફો થાય છે. જેઠાભાઈ ખૂબ ખુશ છે. તેઓ કહે છે કે, ‘વગર વ્યાજે કોઈ આ રીતે મદદ કરે! સંસ્થાએ અમારા પર ભરોષો મુક્યો છે. અમે એ ભરોષો કાયમી રાખીશું. મારા ઘરમાં સૌ ખૂબ રાજી છે.’ જેઠાભાઈ દર મહીને લારીના હપ્તા પેટે રૂ. ૫૦૦ પરત આપે છે. આ રકમ પરત આવતા આપણે બીજા પરિવારોને પણ  રોજગારલક્ષી પ્રવૃત્તિ માટે મદદ કરીશું. 

આજ રીતે દિયોદરમાં રહેતા ચેતનભાઈ કાંગસિયા અને શ્રવણભાઈ કાંગસિયા પણ છૂટક મજૂરી કરતા જેમાં કાયમી કામ મળે અને ના પણ મળે તેવું થતું. એમણે vssm પાસે લારીની માંગણી ગંજબજારમાંથી સામાન ભરી જેતે દુકાને પહોંચાડવાનું કામ કરવા માટે કરી. આપણે આ બંને

 

ભાઇઓને લારી આપી. તેઓ રોજના રૂ. ૩૦૦ કમાઈ લે છે. ચેતનભાઈ કહે છે, ‘અમે સંસ્થાથી પરિચિત ખરા. પણ જયારે ધંધા માટે લારીની મદદ કરવાની વાત કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું ત્યારે હતું કે, વ્યાજ આછું લે તો સારું. પણ સંસ્થાએ તો અમને વગર વ્યાજે લારી આપી. આ અમારા માટે નવાઈની વાત હતી. અત્યારે તો સૌને વ્યાજવા રૂ. ફેરવવામાં જ રસ છે એમાં અમારા જેવા ગરીબો પર ભરોષો મૂકી અમને મદદ કરી એ માટે સંસ્થાનો આભાર માનીએ છીએ...’

દિનેશભાઈ રાવળ પણ લારીની માંગ કરી અને એમણે ફ્રુટની લારી દિયોદર બસ સ્ટેશન પાસે કરી. તેઓ લારીનો ઉપયોગ ફ્રુટ વેચવાની સાથે સાથે બસમાં આવતા સામાનને ઉતારી બીજી જગ્યાએ પહોંચાડવામાં પણ કરે છે. આમ તેઓ પણ રોજના રૂ.૩૦૦ કમાઈ લે છે.

ઉપરોકત તમામ વ્યક્તિ દર મહીને રૂ.૫૦૦ આપણને પરત આપે છે. વિચરતા સમુદાયને માનભેર રોજગારી મળે તે માટે મદદરૂપ થનાર ‘સ્ટેટ બેંક ઓફ ઇન્ડિયા’(SBI) તથા આદરણીય શ્રી ભારતીબેન પ્રજાપતિના આભારી છીએ. આ દાતાઓ તરફથી મળેલું અનુદાન રોજગારલક્ષી પ્રવૃતિમાં ખર્ચાય છે.  મફતનું નહિ લેવાની ભાવના રાખવાવાળા આવા હજારો પરિવારોને આપણી મદદની જરૂર છે. સાથે મળી સમાજ ઘડતરના આ કામમાં મદદરૂપ થવાની આશા સાથે...
