"The diamond business has been in decline for many years, and the pandemic added insult to injury. We have no land to cultivate, so we needed to find a way to make a living. I didn't know what to do at first, but one day I decided to open a small shop in front of my house. With little money we had, we bought cement, stones, and bricks to build walls, and covered the shop with tin plates. I filled it up with biscuits and packaged foods. Eventually, I began earning enough to put food on the table, but that was about it—I couldn’t progress any further than that."

Bharatbhai, who lived in Baabar, Amreli, found himself in a situation reminiscent of the lyrics of "Shekhadam Abuwala." His shop was operating as expected, but he believed it could perform better. He thought that by adding more items to his inventory and purchasing a freezer, he could boost his business.

Bharatbhai approached our volunteer, Rameshbhai, to request a loan for a refrigerator, which we granted. He began using the fridge to store milk, curd, buttermilk, and cold drinks. As a result, his business income increased. 

When we met Bharatbhai, he expressed a desire to expand his business further. With a little support, his dreams have grown. We are very pleased to see his progress!

"હીરામાં ઘણા ટેમથી મંદી હાલે, કોરોનાએ પાસુ પડતામાં પાટુ માઈર્યું. અમારી પાહે ખેતી બેતી કાંઈ નો જડે. પેટિયું રળવા કાંક તો કરવું જોવે. હમજાતું નોતું હું કરુ? એક દિ વિચાર આયવો ઘર આગળ નાનકડી દુકાન કરવાનો. થોડા ઘણા પૈસા હતા તે એમાંથી પાણા ને સીમેન્ટ લાવી દુકાન ચણી પતરાથી ઢાંકી દીધી. બે હજારનો સામાન (પડીકા ને બિસ્કીટ) દુકાનમાં ભરાઈવો. રોટલા જોગુ આમાંથી મળવા માંઈડ્યું. હાશ થઈ પણ આટલાથી કાંઈ આગળ નો વધાય."

ચાલ તારાઓની બદલે એ જ શક્તિમાન છે - શેખાદમ આબુવાલાના આ વાક્ય જેવું જ થયું કાંઈ અમરેલીના બાબરમાં રહેતા ભરતભાઈના કિસ્સામાં થયું. એમની દુકાન એમના કહ્યા પ્રમાણ ચાલતી પણ ઝાઝુ મળતર નહોતું. દુકાનમાં સામાનનો ઉમેરો અથવા ફ્રીઝ લેવાય તો ધંધો વધે એવી એમની લાગણી.

આમારા કાર્યકર રમેશભાઈને ભરતભાઈએ ફ્રીઝ માટે લોન આપવા કહ્યું ને અમે લોન આપી. 

ફ્રીજ આવતા દૂધ, દહી, છાશ, ઠંડાપીણા રાખવાનું એમણે શરૃ કર્યું. હવે દુકાનમાં આવક વધી..

ભરતભાઈને અમે મળ્યા ત્યારે એમણે હજુ પણ ધંધો મોટો કરવાની ખેવના દર્શાવી. એક નાનકડા ટેકાથી એમના સપનાનો વ્યાપ વધ્યાનો રાજીપો..  

VSSM અને KRSF ના પ્રયત્નોથી ભરતભાઈ જેવા 9500 થી વધારે લોકોને પગભર કરવામાં અમે નિમિત્ત બન્યાનો રાજીપો...

Will to succeed… VSSM helps Lilaben begin her own venture…

A little ahead on Mehsana’s Nagalpur crossroads, towards the right of the highway is a tea stall run by Lilaben. VSSM had provided an interest-free loan to Lilaben to help her set up her venture. The business has flourished. Along with serving tea, she plans to offer snacks as well. There was a time when Lilaben reeled under doubts, “I won’t be able to run a hotel, I cannot do it!!” she had shared when we had listed before her some options. I was particularly keen on meeting her because she was now planning to expand her business.

The responsibility of raising her four children fell on Lilaben after the death of her husband. The Saraniya is a poor community, sharpening knives does not earn them enough money to be able to save for unforeseen circumstances!!

I have worked very hard to raise the children. My elder son has a heart ailment, his medications costs are huge. How do I meet such expenses?? Mohanbhai (VSSM’s team member) and Kanabhai (community leader) knew about my financial turmoil. They pushed me to start this hotel, I had many fears and concerns initially. But I am better off now. We have enough food for three meals a day, also there is money to meet the medical expenses incurred towards the treatment of my ailing son.

Women like Lilaben inspire us at many levels. Their struggle is about sustaining themselves and their families but also perform each role with utmost honesty and integrity. Lilaben has turned out to be a role model for women contemplating to plunge into starting their micro ventures. Of course, we will be supporting her in expanding her business. She deserves all our support and regard.

VSSM will always remain grateful to its patrons for enabling it meets the need for a dignified living for thousands of individuals like Lilaben. It is your support that helps these marginalised families realise their dreams.

મહેસાણાના નાગલપુર ચાર રસ્તાથી થોડે આગળ જઈએ તો હાઈવેની જમણી બાજુ લીલાબહેનની ચાની હોટલ આવે. 

લીલાબહેનને હોટલ કરવા અમે વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપેલી. તે એમાંથી એમણે સરસ તરક્કી કરી. હવે એમને હોટલની સાથે સાથે નાસ્તાની વ્યવસ્થા ટૂંકમાં ખાણી પીણીનું કામ પણ ચાલુ કરવું હતું. એક વખતે 'હું હોટલ નહીં ચલાવી શકુ, મારાથી નહીં થાય' એવા ડર સાથે જીવતા લીલાબહેને નવું સાહસ કરવાનું વિચાર્યું એટલે એમને ખાસ મળવું હતું.

એમના પતિ ચાર બાળકોને લીલાબહેનના સહારે મુકીને પરલોક સિધાવી ગયા. છરી ચપ્પુની ધાર કાઢીને જીવતા આ સરાણિયા પરિવાર પાસે બચત તો શાની હોય? લીલાબહેન કહે, 'લોકોના ખૂબ વૈતર્યા કર્યા. જે મળે એ કામ કર્યું ને છોકરાં મોટા કર્યા. મોટા છોકરાને હૃદયની બિમારી છે. તેની દવાય કરવાની. આ બધા ખર્ચા કેમના કાઢવા? આ મોહનભાઈ (VSSMના કાર્યકર) અને કાનાભાઈ(વસાહતના આગેવાન) બધી હકીકત જાણે. એમણે હોટલ કરવાનું કીધુ. બહુ બીક લાગતી પણ પછી કરી. હવે સારુ છે. છોકરાંની દવાય થાય છે ને પેટ ભરીને ત્રણ ટંકનો રોટલો જડી જાય છે..'

લીલાબહેન જેવા બહેનો પ્રેરણારૃપ છે. કપરી સ્થિતિમાં પોતાના પરિવારને ટકાવવા મથવું એ સહેલું નથી.. સફળ વ્યવસાયકર્તા તરીકે તો ખરુ પણ એક ઉત્તમ મા તરીકે લીલાબહેનને પ્રણામ કરવાનું મન થાય..રહી વાત નવા સાહસ માટે મદદની તો એ તો કરીશું જ. 

લીલાબહેન જેવા હજારો સાહસીકોને મદદ કરનાર સૌ પ્રિયજનોના અમે આભારી છીએ...એમની મદદથી જ આ વંચિતોએ જોયેલા સ્વપ્ન સાકાર થઈ રહ્યા છે.
