“Because of the loan provided by the organization, now I can dream of having my own house. I have my own Keyboard and also I have paid the debt of Rs 1,00,000/-. All of this is possible because of the organization and Mittalben.”

“My name is Rohit Ashokbhai Somkuwar. I stay in Gomtipur area of Ahmedabad District. My father does paint work and my mother goes to work in a factory. We are three brothers my eldest brother is married and stays separate from us, my second brother has just completed his studies and has started his job.”
“When I was a kid I was fascinated by music and this from 10th I started to learn how to play keyboard. We all three brothers were small so my mother used to do sewing work at home. From childhood I saw mother and father working hard so decided to learn music soon and start earning. In 1 or 2 years I was able to play well and started to play at shows with my teacher. Slowly and I was able to earn my living.”
“I kept my studies on along with it I also practiced music. After my education was completed I only focused upon my music practice and started experimenting. I did not have enough money to buy my own keyboard and so I bought an old keyboard of my friend Rs. 15000/- Spending.  Slowly everyone came to know about my skills and I got contracts for Marriage and Navratri shows. I did not have a keyboard which I could take to shows and so whenever I had shows. I used to take a keyboard on rent. So every time, I had to pay Rs. 500/- to Rs. 1000/- as rent. And this used to increase when there is season and many a times it so happened that I was unable to do shows because I did not have the keyboard.”
“I used to know VSSM as they worked for Nomadic Tribes. The founder of the organization is Mittalben. I never thought that I will receive help from the organization in such a way. I don’t belong to nomadic community but when I explained my difficulty to mittalben and she gave me interest free loan of Rs. 50,000/- adding Rs 20,000/- to it, I bought a keyboard of Rs. 70,000/-. Now I can play in marriage function, hotel shows, making up of audio jingles, Ranotsav and also in Navratri. If I get work regularly than I can earn 20,000/- to 25,000/- every month but it sometimes also happens that I don’t get work. This time in navratri because of the rain my four shows got cancelled and I incurred a loss of Rs 12,000/- to 15,000/-,” says Rohit.
Rohit Continues, “The loan provided by the organization has helped a lot. At the time of marriage my brother’s we had a debt of Rs. 2,50,000/- with interest of 3%. When I got the loan from VSSM still we had left with Rs. 1,00,000/- to pay. Now that loan is repaid over and also the loan of organization is now also coming to end. When my grandfather divided his property we were only given a small room in which we built a wall and made the separate part as kitchen. My mother has spent many years in this small house, my mother and father are also working hard so that we can get a new house. I wish that my mother can as live in her own house as soon as possible.”
“Because of the loan provided by the organization I could fulfill my dream of a musician. Along with it we were also able to get out of the debt. Now, if I would buy a house from the savings this will also be possible only because of the organization. I am very thankful for the help provided by Mittalben and the organization.”

“સંસ્થામાંથી લોન મળી તો હું આજે પોતાના ઘરનું સપનું જોતો થઇ ગયો. મારું પોતાનું કી-બોર્ડ (મ્યુઝીક સીસ્ટમ) થઇ ગયું. એક લાખ રૂપિયાનું જે દેવું હતું એ પણ હવે ચૂકતે થઇ ગયું. આ બધું સંસ્થા અને મિત્તલબેનના કારણે શક્ય બન્યું.“
“મારું નામ રોહિત અશોકભાઈ સોમકુવર છે. હું અમદાવાદ જીલ્લાના ગોમતીપુર વિસ્તારમાં રહું છું. મારા પપ્પા હાલ કલરકામ અને મમ્મી ફેકટરીમાં કામ કરવા જાય છે. અમે ત્રણ ભાઈઓ છીએ. મારા મોટાભાઈના લગ્ન થઇ ગયા છે. જે હાલ જુદો રહે છે. મારો બીજો ભાઈ અભ્યાસ પૂર્ણ કરી હાલ જ નોકરી પર લાગ્યો છે. “
 “હું નાનો હતો ત્યારથી સંગીત પ્રત્યે ગજબની રૂચિ હતી. દસમાં ધોરણમાં આવ્યો ત્યારથી કી-બોર્ડ વગાડવાનું શીખવા લાગ્યો. અમે ત્રણે ભાઈ નાના હતા તેથી ત્યારે મમ્મી ઘરમાં સિલાઈકામ કરતા. નાનપણથી જોતો કે મમ્મી – પપ્પા ખૂબ મહેનત કરે છે.  એટલે એવું વિચાર્યું કે સંગીત શીખી જલ્દીથી કામની શરૂઆત કરી દઉં. એક– બે વરસમાં સારું એવું વગાડતા શીખી ગયો, તેથી નાના નાના શો કરવા હું મારા સર સાથે જવા લાગ્યો. ધીરે ધીરે હું એટલું તો કમાવા લાગ્યો કે મારો ખર્ચો કાઢી શકું. ”
“ભણતર ચાલુ રાખ્યું અને સાથે સાથે મ્યુઝીકના શો પણ કરતો ગયો. અભ્યાસ પૂર્ણ કરી એકચિત્તે હું સંગીતની પ્રેક્ટીસ અને તેમાં નવા પ્રયોગો કરવામાં લાગી ગયો. મારી પાસે એટલા પૈસા તો હતા નહિ કે હું પોતાનું કી-બોર્ડ લાવી શકું. તેથી મારા મિત્રનું જુનું કી-બોર્ડ રૂપિયા ૧૫,૦૦૦/-માં ખરીદી લીધું. જેના પૈસા થોડા થોડા કરીને ચૂકવી દીધા. ધીરે ધીરે ઓળખાણ વધી અને લગ્ન સમયે, હોટલમાં મ્યુઝીક માટેના શો તેમજ નવરાત્રીમાં પણ કામ મળવા લાગ્યુ. મારી પાસે એવું કી-બોર્ડ તો હતું નહીં કે હું એને શોમાં લઇ જઈ શકું. તેથી જયારે શો હોય ત્યારે હું ભાડેથી કી-બોર્ડ લાવતો. જેના ભાડાના રૂપિયા ૫૦૦ થી ૧૦૦૦ ચૂકવવા પડતા. સીઝન પ્રમાણે ભાડામાં પણ વધારો થઇ જતો. ઘણીયે વાર કી-બોર્ડના અભાવે હું શો કરી શકતો નહીં. “
“VSSM સંસ્થાને હું એ રીતે ઓળખતો કે આ સંસ્થા વિચરતી – વિમુક્ત જાતિ માટે કામ કરે છે. જેના સ્થાપક મિત્તલબેન પટેલ છે. મને આ રીતે સંસ્થાની મદદ મળી રહેશે જેની મેં કલ્પના પણ નહોતી કરી. હું વિચરતી – વિમુક્ત જાતિમાં આવતો નથી. તે છતાં જયારે મિત્તલબેનને મેં મારી મૂંઝવણ કહી તો તેમણે મને નવું કી-બોર્ડ લેવા માટે વગર વ્યાજની રૂપિયા ૫૦,૦૦૦/-ની લોન આપી. બીજા રૂપિયા ૨૦,૦૦૦/-ઉમેરી રૂપિયા ૭૦,૦૦૦/-માં નવું કી-બોર્ડ લઇ આવ્યો. હવે હું લગ્ન પ્રસંગે ગરબા, હોટલના શો, ઓડીયો જિંગલ બનાવવા, રણોત્સવમાં શો, તેમજ નવરાત્રી સમયે પણ આરામથી કામ કરી લઉં છું. આમ જો નિયમિત કામ મળી રહે તો મહિનામાં રૂપિયા ૨૦,૦૦૦/-થી ૨૫,૦૦૦/- મળી રહે. પરંતુ ઘણી વખત એવું પણ થાય છે કે મહિનામાં એક પણ શો ના થાય. આ વખતે નવરાત્રીમાં જ વરસાદને કારણે ચાર શો કેન્સલ થયા. જેથી ૧૨,૦૦૦/- થી ૧૫,૦૦૦/-નું નુકસાન થઇ ગયું. “
“સંસ્થાની આપેલી લોનથી આમ તો મને ઘણો ફાયદો થયો. મારા ભાઈના લગ્ન વખતે ૨,૫૦,૦૦૦/-નું દેવું થઇ ગયું હતું જેમાં ૩% લેખે વ્યાજ હતું. લોન લીધી ત્યારે ૧,૦૦,૦૦૦/- હજી ચૂકવવાના બાકી હતા. જે આજે ચૂકવાઈ ગયા. સંસ્થામાંથી લીધેલ લોન પણ હવે પૂર્ણ થવા આવી છે. મારા દાદાએ જયારે મકાનના ભાગલા કર્યા ત્યારે અમારા ભાગમાં એક ઓરડી આવી જેમાં અમે એક દીવાલ ઉભી કરી રસોડું કર્યું. મારી મમ્મીએ વર્ષો આ નાનકડા ઘરમાં કાઢી નાખ્યા. મારા મમ્મી – પપ્પા પણ ખૂબ મહેનત કરે છે. જેથી અમે ઘર લઇ શકીએ. હું ઈચ્છું છું કે બહુ જલ્દી મારી મમ્મી પોતાના ઘરમાં વસવાટ કરે. “
“સંસ્થાની મળેલી લોનથી હું મારા સંગીતના સપનાને સાકાર કરી રહ્યો છુ. સાથે સાથે દેવામાંથી છુટકારો મળ્યો. હવે બચત કરી ઘર લઈશ તો એ પણ સંસ્થાને કારણે જ શક્ય થશે. મિત્તલબેન અને સંસ્થા દ્વારા મળેલી મદદ માટે હું દિલથી આભાર વ્યક્ત કરું છું. “

Maganbhai devipoojak took us to show his house. And doors were locked. I said ‘Please unlock your house, I would want to see how much damage has happened.’ He chuckled a little and opened his house and naturally he spoke about the reason why he locks his house. If you see the picture you will also say that. But to know about how that happened please continue reading ahead.

Maganbhai lives in Umari village, near the shore of the Banas river. On their land of livelihood, the first and foremost ever flood waters of 2017 scattered all over. After water level receded, we went to see the land, that time it was tears in our eyes. They used to live in farm by building temporary structure there and that structure also was destroyed with other things. It was the only kachcha house they had in village, now its situation is also as you can see in the picture. In such a situation how will they stand up again that was the question.

We started to levelling the land. But he didn’t have even a penny, and in that too he had to buy seeds for farming and even water. Maganbhai who lost his courage then got in contact with field worker(karyakar) Naranbhai through Kanubhai Raval after floods. And he gave courage to Maganbhai. We asked What help he wants he answered “Loan of Rs. 50000 and loan of Rs.20000 for his son Prahaladbhai.” Vessels, grains such basic necessary things we provided urgently.

Actually floods did damage a lot but the good thing was that  water levels came up in the land . So they could see water in wells, which are existing in their farms. That’s why through loan they thought of taking Rajkotiyu machine and seeds. And we gave Rs. 70,000 to them without interest. 

Few days back we went to Umari and Manganbhai came to meet us.While asking ‘whether the loan was fruitful for them or not?’, he said ‘ Loan did benefit a lot. If we would have taken water on credit base for farming, then we would have to give one third of our income to them. That we could save here. This time castor crop also was good and rates were fine too. So from that castor income I will pay for loan at a time. If you wouldn’t have put faith in us, then I might have faced debt pressure. It was bad that floods came but for us it’s like floods happened for good. Floods came and we met you otherwise who would care for us!!

Maganbhai’s house we will build too. We have appealed to government for the help and also we will help from our side too.

મગનભાઈ #દેવીપૂજક એમનું ઘર બતાવવા અમને લઈ ગયા. ઘરના દરવાજે મોટુ તાળુ મારેલું. મે કહ્યું, ઘર ખોલોને અંદરથી શું નુકશાન થયું છે તે જોવું છે. એમણે હસતાં હસતાં ઘર ખોલ્યું ને તાળું શું કામ મારો છો તે સહજ પણે બોલાઈ ગયું. ફોટો જોશો તો તમે પણ એમ જ કહેશો. પણ આ બધુ કેમ થયું તે જાણવા આગળ વાંચવું રહ્યું.

આ મગનભાઈ #બનાસના કાંઠે આવેલા ઉમરીગામમાં રહે. રોજીરોટીના સાધન સમી જમીન ઉપર પહેલાં 2017ના પુરનું પાણી અને પછી રેતી ફરી વળી. પાણી ઓસર્યા પછી જમીન જોવા ગયા ત્યારે તો આંખોમાંથી આંસુ આવી ગયા. ખેતરમાં છાપરુ કરીને રહેતા એ છાપરુ સામન સાથે જ તણાઈ ગયું. ગામમાં હતું એ કાચુ ઘર જેની હાલત ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે તેવી થઈ. આવામાં ફેર બેઠા કેમના થવાશે તે પ્રશ્ન થઈ આવ્યો.

જમીન સરખી કરવા મહેનત આદરી. પણ પાસે એક રૃપિયોય નહોતો ને એમાં ખેતી માટે બિયારણ, પાણી બધુયે વેચાતુ લેવાનું હતું. જીગર હારી ગયેલા મગનભાઈનો પુર પછી કનુભાઈ રાવળ દ્વારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ સાથે સંપર્ક થયો. ને મગનભાઈને હિંમત આપી. શું મદદ કરીએ તેના જવાબમાં તેમણે રુપિયા પચાસ હજારની લોન આપવા કહ્યું. સાથે પોતાના દીકરા પ્રહલાદભાઈને પણ વીસ હજારની લોન માટે કહ્યું. અમે વાસણ, અનાજ જેવી જરૃરી ચીજો તો તત્કાલ આપી.

મૂળ તો પૂરથી નુકશાન ઘણું થયું પણ ફાયદારૃપ જમીનમાં પાણીના તળ ઉપર આવ્યા હતા તે એમના ખેતરમાં કરેલા કુવામાં પાણી દેખાવા માંડ્યું. એટલે લોનથી રાજકોટિયું મશીન અને બિયારણ લાવવા તેમણે વિચાર્યું. અમે વગર વ્યાજે બાપ દીકરાને સીત્તેર હજાર આપ્યા.

થોડા દિવસ પહેલાં ઉમરી જવાનું થયું ને મગનભાઈ મળવા આવ્યા. લોનથી કાંઈ ફાયદો થ્યો કે નહીં એવું પુછતા તેમણે કહ્યું, ‘લોનથી ઘણોય ફાયદો થ્યો. વેચાતુ પોણી લઈન સેતી કરી હોત તો તીજો ભાગ પોણીવાળા ન આલવો પડત તે ઈના બચી જ્યાં. આ ફેરા એઈડાય હારા થ્યા હ્. અન ભાવ ય હારો હ. એઈડા ઊતરક તમારી #લોનના થશે એટલા ભેગા જ ભરી દઈશ. તમે અમાર પર વિસવા ના મુચ્યો હોત તો દેવાના બોજા હેઠળ દબઈ જ્યો હોત. ઓમ તો પુર આયુ એ ખરાબ થ્યું પણ અમાર માટે પુર જોણે હારા માટે જ આયુ. પુર આયુ ન તમે મળ્યા નકર અમારી કુન પડીતી.’

મગનભાઈનું ઘરેય બાંધીશું. સરકારમાં અરજી કરી છે એ સહાય આપશે બાકી અમે મદદ કરીશું.

બસ બધાય સુખી થાય તે ભાવનાથી થઈ રહેલા આ કાર્યોમાં મદદરૃપ થનાર સૌનો આભાર...

During July 2017, thousands of family lost their homes and family members during the flood. Their homes, business, farms everything was destroyed. When the flood situation became normal but, life didn’t become normal for the flood affected families. Their hard earned money and the homes they made out of hard earned money destroyed. Flood affected people were broken financially and mentally with the worries of the future. How to start and from where to start? They all were unhappy and crying. Who would come forward to wipe whose tears?

They were fed up eating biscuits and mixtures. This was very painful situation for affected families 

specially related to food requirements. VSSM directly Rs. 45,00,000 Lacs and indirectly offered nearby Rs. 1.5 Crore material to flood affected families. They were offered interest free Rs. 75 lacs loans to restart their business.

They have lost their shelter so started to building their houses. As of now, Total 36 families have received help of Total 16,73,000 to build their houses. Still the work is going on and as you know it is the difficulty generated out of flood. It is not going to come at a normal state overnight! We estimate minimum two years of time to get the things inline.

On January 30, 2018, VSSM organised a programme at Shihori village of Banaskantha District to distribute the cheques of loans to restart the business as well as financial help to re-construct the lost houses during the flood to the flood affected people.

The Kankrej area MLA Mr. Kirtishinhji also remained present in the programme and he promised us to sort out the problems of the Nomadic and De-Notified Tribes of Gujarat. He is a wonderful human being who offered a genuine help to contact him for help even at midnight. He will be with us at any hour of need. We express the heart felt gratitude to Kirtisinhji.

People have a lot of expectation to VSSM. We don’t know how we will meet to the expectations but as our respected Rashminbhai says, “Nature will not give us the work beyond our capacity.” So I feel that we still have capacity and the society is with us! Everything will be possible…

જુલાઈ 2017માં ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં આવેલા પુરમાં હજારો પરિવારો બેહાલ થયા. પૂરના પાણી ઓસર્યા પણ પાણી સાથે આવેલું દુઃખ જરાય ઓછુ ના થયું. ક્યાંક માંડ માંડ પુંજી ભેગી કરીને બનાવેલા ઘરો સાવ જમીનદોસ્ત થઈ ગયા તો ક્યાંય જેના ઉપર રોજી રળતા તે સાધનો તણાઈ ગયા કે પડી ભાંગ્યા. લોકો માનસીક રીતે સાવ પડી ભાંગ્યા. બધાનીએ દશા ખરાબ આમાં કોણ કોના આંસુ લુછે?

‘ખાવા આપો. બિસ્કીટ, ચવાણું નથી ભાવતું’ ની રાડ ઊઠી ને રુપિયા 45,000,00નો સામાન VSSM દ્વારા સીધો ને આડકતરી રીતે લગભગ દોઢ કરોડનો સામાન અસરગ્રસ્તોમાં પહોંચતો કર્યો.

ધંધા ફેર બેઠા કરવા રૃપિયા 75 લાખ વગર વ્યાજવા આપ્યા. 

ને હવે જેમના માથેથી પાકી છત જતી રહી છે તેમના ઘર બાંધવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. આજ સુધી 36 પરિવારોને 16,73,000ની ઘર બાંધકામમાં સહાય કરી ને હજુ આ કામ આગળ ધપ્યા કરે છે.આ તો પુરની થપાટ. એમ કાંઈ થોડા બેઠા થવાય. કાંઈ કેટલા હાથ મદદ માટે ભેગા થશે ત્યારે જતા આ બધુ એકાદ બે વર્ષે થાળે પડશે. 

તા.30જાન્યુઆરી 2017માં #બનાસકાંઠાના શિહોરી મુકામે પુરઅસરગ્રસ્ત પરિવારોને નવા ધંધા માટે લોન આપવાનું તથા #ઘર બાંધકામ માટે #આર્થિક સહાયનો ચેક વિતરણ કાર્યક્રમ આયોજીત કર્યો.

કાંકરેજ વિસ્તારના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી કીર્તીસીંહજી પણ આ કાર્યક્રમમાં ઉપસ્થિત રહ્યા ને #વિચરતી જાતિના પ્રશ્ને આપણી સાથે ઊભા રહવાનું #વચન આપ્યું. અદભૂત માણસ. જરાય મોટાઈ નહીં અડધી રાતે જરૃર પડે આવજોની વાત તેમણે કરી. તેમના પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા. 

લોકોની અપેક્ષાઓ ખુબ છે ખબર નહીં બધે પહોંચાશે કે કેમ? પણ આદરણીય રશ્મીનભાઈ સંઘવી કહે છે એમ, ‘કુદરત તને તારા ગજા બહારનું કામ નહીં આપે’ એટલે એમ થાય છે કે હજુ ગજુ છે ને સમાજ સાથે છે એટલે બધુયે થશે...

“What will you do with the picture?”

“Why’d you ask that? I want to frame it and hang it in my home”

Teenaben Ravan was able to get a house in Deesa under Rajiv Gandhi Away Yojna. With the help of Pravinbhai Maadi and Nagarpalika, Teenaben had to pay the Rs 10, 000/- , which she borrowed through the interest free loans that VSSM gives to NT/DNT communities.

Mahesh (VSSM worker) clicked the picture and Teenaben told Mahesh to make a copy of it and give it to her the earliest. Today, Mahesh calls me with a request to send the picture clicked with Teenaben. He informed me that Teenaben has been calling him several times a day and  now, he is hesitant to even go to the locality that Teenaben lives , with the fear that she will catch him and ask for the copy of the picture.

Unlike Mahesh, I only had laughter in my part. Everyone has pictures of their family members in their house and to get a place in that is truly humbling.

“I cannot move in my new home without my goats!!” - Savitaben Devipujak

Savitaben Devipujak has been residing in Deesa for years but, never had a single document to prove her address in the town. A bold and gutsy lady, she has raised her five children on her own after her husband walked out of the marriage. Not the kind who loses hope and courage, Savitaben earns her living through selling toys and stuff at village fests and fairs.

VSSM’s Mahesh worked hard and helped her obtain Voter ID card, Ration Card and a two bedroom flat under the Rajiv Gandhi Awas Scheme.  

“I want to treat you with a meal, shower you with gifts, my goat is going to deliver soon I will gift you a kid!!” Savitaben tells us with all humility and humbleness.

“Ben, I cannot tell you the happiness I felt after seeing my flat. It has water, power and all the other facilities. But, where do I keep my goats? Also, I do not have an LPG connection so how can I cook. My wood fired sighri will ruin the whitewashed kitchen!! Please help me obtain an LPG connection and also find a solution for my goats. I have got some modifications done in the flat and want to move-in soon but, not without my goats!! Help me resolve this situation, please!”

The current living condition of Savitaben Devipujak

Savitaben did not have enough savings to pay the down payment to secure the apartment. We helped her with an interest free loan of Rs. 10,000. Savitaben was regular in paying the instalments.  

“It is you all who cared for us and showed concern for our well-being, otherwise who cares what happens t people like us who stay in huts and shanties!!” was a rather upfront and honest opinion Savitaben has for the society. There is open span of land opposite the building where she has her flat. We plan to safeguard a place for her goats in a small patch over that land.

Shri. Pravinbhai Mali, President, Deesa Nagarpalika has helped families like Savitaben’s to help obtain flats in Deesa. And a huge thank you to all of you for the unflinching support.

The picture of us together was captured when I was in Deesa recently, Savitaben took me to her house to see the shelves and her standing kitchen.

The homes of Savitaben one her current and the other is her new home where she will move in shortly.

‘હુ તમારી હું આગતા સાગતા કરુ પણ આલીખા મારી બકરીન બચ્ચા આબ્બાના તે ઈમોંથી એક તમન આલીશ.’ ડીસામાં રહેતા સવીતાબહેન દેવીપૂજકે આ લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરી.

ડીસામાં વર્ષોથી રહે પણ ઓળખનો એકેય આધાર એમની પાસે નહીં. કાર્યકર મહેશે તેમને મતદારકાર્ડ રેશનકાર્ડ ને રહેવા માટે રાજીવગાંધી આવાસ યોજના અંતર્ગત બેરૃમ રસોડાનો ફ્લેટ અપાવ્યો. 

‘ફલેટ જોઈન રાજી થઈ જીતી બેન. પોણી બોણીની અન લાઈટ બાઈટની અસલ સગવડ હ. પણ બેન મારા બકરાંન ચો રાખુ? અન મારી કન ગેસ નહીં. ફ્લેટની ભેતો ધોળી ઈમોં ચુલો કરુ તો આખુ મકોન કારુ થઈ જાય. તે ગેસનું કોક કરી દો ન મારા બકરાંનુંય. મે ફલેટમાં અભરઈઓ અન બીજા થોડા સુધારા કરાયા. હવ ઝટ રેવા આબ્બુ હ્ પણ મારા બકરાંનું કોક કરજો મન ઈમનાં વના ના ચાલ.’

ફ્લેટ માટે સરકારમાં પૈસા ભરવાના હતા પણ સવીતાબેન પાસે સગવડ નહીં. અમે દસ હજાર વગરવ્યાજવા આપ્યા ને તેના નિયમિત હપ્તા સવીતાબેન ભરે. પતિ પાંચ બાળકોને સવિતાબેનના હવાલે મુકીને જતા રહ્યા પણ હિંમત હાર્યા વગર સવિતાબેને બધાને મોટા કર્યા. હાલ તેઓ મેળામાં રમકડાં વેચીને પુરુ કરે છે.

ડીસા નગરપાલિકાના પ્રમુખ શ્રી પ્રવિણભાઈ માળીએ સવીતાબહેન જેવા પરિવારોને ઘર અપાવવામાં ખુબ મદદ કરી. ફ્લેટ સામે નદીનો ખુલ્લો પટ છે. બસ ત્યાં સવિતાબેનને વાડો વાળી આપીશું જેથી બકરાં ત્યાં રહી શકે. 

‘સાપરાંમાં રેનાર અમન તમે હોવ ન ઘર મલ બાકી અમારી કુન પડી હોય બેન! આવી અદભૂત લાગણી સવીતાબેને વ્યક્ત કરી.’

અમે નિમિત્ત બન્યા બાકી આ બધુ તો આપ સૌની મદદ વગર ક્યાં શક્ય હતું? સૌનો આભાર... 

હમણાં ડીસા ગઈ ત્યારે ફ્લેટમાં બની રહેલી અભરાઈને ઊભું રસોડું જોવા લઈ ગયા. સાથે સરસ ફોટો પણ પડાવ્યો. 

સવિતાબેન હાલ જ્યાં રહે છે તે છાપરુ ને હવે જ્યાં રહેવા આવવાના છે તે ફલેટની તસવીર..

Buying Govind’s freedom

The burden of responsibilites fell on the shoulders of Govind Bajaniyaa at a very early age. Govind lost his mother at a young age and the responsibility of performing her last rites also fell on him. Govind who was a daily wage earners did not have enough money, this required him to borrow Rs. 8000 from an acquaintance. Barely literate Govind was ignorant on the ways the private money lenders calculate interest, he continued paying the instalments yet, the payable amount just kept increasing.  You would be surprised to know that the payable amount went so high that just the monthly interest amounted to Rs. 6,000.

Govind has a small plot on which he has built a small shanty. There was a time when, there was a talk of selling the plot to repay the amount. Govind got confused with this preposition and inquired about the payable amount. And when the figure was revealed it sent a shock …. The amount was a whooping Rs. 70,000 plus the interest!! Astonished? We were too…

Govind begged and tried his best to convince the lender to wave off the interest, he spoke to the influential individuals. The Rs. 70,000 could still be managed but how to manage the interest. His pleas were heard and the lender waved off the interest but, from where to raise the huge amount of Rs. 70,000?

We happened to meet Govind for the first time during the floods as his shanty was swept away. He was ubale to share his plight when we met him a couple of times initially.  Govind earns his living by collecting the hair shed while combing. He had requested for a loan to buy some goods for his business. We did sanction but instead of buying goods he repaid part of his outstanding debt of Rs. 70,000. Somewhere, it pinched him that he had lied and taken the loan from VSSM. Ultimately he did share his plight and asked us, “Will we help him free from debt bondage?”

“Of course, we will. We assured that the society will stand with him in this hour of need.”

We also have to support him build the house because it is an impossible task otherwise!!

We have faith that all will fall in place.

ગોવિંદ #બજાણિયા. ઉંમર કાંઈ બહુ મોટી નહીં. પણ જવાબદારીનો બોજો ઘણો મોટો. ‘મા’ની હૂંફની જરૃર હતી પણ ભગવાનને કદાચ એની વધારે જરૃર હતી. મા ગઈ. એની અંતિમવિધી ને કારજ કરવાનું ગોવિંદના માથે આવ્યું. મજુરી કરતા ગોવિંદ પાસે બચતના નામે મીંડુ. એક ભાઈ પાસેથી રુપિયા 8000 વ્યાજવા લીધા ને બધુ પતાવ્યું. ત્રણ ચોપડી ભણેલા ગોવિંદને વ્યાજ બ્યાજની બહુ ગણતરી આવડે નહીં. નિયમિત હપ્તા ભરે તોય દેવાની રકમ વધતી જ જાય.

જાણીને નવાઈ લાગે પણ આ રકમ એટલી વધી કે મહિને છ હજાર તો ખાલી વ્યાજના જ ભરવાના થાય. ગોવિંદ પાસે રહેવા માટે પોતાનો નાનો પ્લોટ જેની ઉપર છાપરુ બાંધીને એ રહે. પ્લોટ વેચીને પૈસા ભરવાની વાત પણ આવી ગઈ. ગોવિંદ મૂંઝાયો. કેટલી રકમ ભરવાની છે તે પૂછ્યુ ત્યારે આંકડો સીતેર હજાર..... ને વ્યાજ તો જુદુ....નો સામે આવ્યો.

ચક્કર આવી ગયા ને? સાંભળીને અમનેય એમ જ થયું. 

કેટલાક વગદાર માણસો પાસે જઈને પેલાભાઈ વ્યાજ માફ કરે એ માટે ગોવિંદે હાથાજોડી કરી. ગોવિંદે મૂડી એ પણ સીતેર હજાર ગમે ત્યાંથી લાવીને ભરવા કહ્યું પણ વ્યાજ માફ કરાવો ને આ રાત દિવસ વધતા દેવામાંથી મને છોડાવોનું ગોવિંદનું આક્રંદ આગેવાનોએ સાંભળ્યું. આગેવાનોની દખલથી તેને વ્યાજમાંથી મુક્તિ મળી પણ સીત્તેર હજાર ભરવાના ઊભા...

#બનાસકાંઠામાં આવેલા પુરમાં ગોવિંદનું છાપરુંયે તુટી ગયું. એ વખતે પહેલીવાર એ મળ્યો. એની તકલીફ વિષે એ બહુ બોલી નહોતો શક્યો. કાંસકામાં ઊતરી આવતા વાળ ભેગા કરીને વેચવાનું એ કરે. આ ધંધામાં જરૃરી સામાન લાવવા વીસ હજારની લોન આપોને એવી એણે વિનંતી કરી ને અમે લોન આપી. પણ એમાંથી એણે કાંઈ સામાન ના ખરીદ્યો. પેલા ભાઈની 70 હજાર ચુકવવાના હતા તે 20 હજાર ત્યાં આપી આવ્યો. પણ અંદરથી ખોટુ બોલીને રકમ લીધાનું ડંખ્યું... આખરે સાચી વાત એણે અમને કરી ને પેલા ભાઈની ચૂંગાલમાંથી મને છોડાવશો? તેવો પ્રશ્ન ભોળા ભાવે પુછ્યો...

હા ગોવિંદ તને છોડાવશું જ... #સમાજ તારી પડખે ઊભો રહેશે ને મદદ કરશે એવો વિશ્વાસ સૌ વતી ગોવિંદને અમે આપ્યો....

એનું ઘર બાંધવામાંય મદદ કરવાની છે... એના એકલાથી ઘર બંધાય તેવી કોઈ શક્યતાઓ નથી. 

થશે બધુ જ થશે.... એવો ભરોસો છે....

ટોટાણા એના ગામ ગઈને એને મળીને નીકળી ગયા પછી બીજી વસાહતમાં ગોવિંદ પાછળ આવ્યો ને મારી સાથે એક ફોટો પડાવોને બેન એમ કહ્યું ને અમે બંને રસ્તાની બાજુમાં ઊભા રહ્યાને મહેશે ફોટો ક્લીક કર્યો. ગોવિંદ હંમેશાં માટે અમારા કેમેરામાં કેદ થયો....

There are numerous ways to define ‘home’, to me a home is a place where my tired body and soul finds peace.

The financially sound families will never experience the struggle it is to create a house to make a home but, to the communities who have been living under the vast open sky and on the bare earth it is a dream they chase for their entire life. And thousands of them never get to experience the peace of living in a house of their own. So, imagine the joy it brings when these families get to know that they will soon be able to live this dream!!

Recently, VSSM became instrumental in bringing this joy to Saraniya and Devipujak families of Chhapi. These families have received plots and assistance from the government but, the Rs. 70,000 they receive from the government is nowhere enough to build a one room house with a sanitation unit. These families are daily wage earners hence, expecting savings from them is also not practical. They had been requesting an interest free loan of Rs. 30,000 from VSSM and also expected a top-up if required!! VSSM did fulfill their requirement and gave the loan they had requested..

The families were delighted at the prospect of moving into a house that will provide shelter from the harsh vagaries of nature… That they soon will have an address to come back to, that they will raise their families in a home and not under a tarpaulin sheet!!

Our best wishes to them and a small prayer that may their families continue to experience this peace!!

ઘરની વ્યાખ્યા કરવી હોય તો ઘણી થાય... પણ મારા મતે હાશ બોલાય ને મનના તમામ અજંપા અને થાકને વિરામ મળે એ ઘર...

જેનું આર્થિકકારણ ઠીક હોય તે પોતાનું #ઘર ખરીદીને કે ભાડેથી લઈને આરામથી રહી શકે પણ જેને આભનું ઓઢવાનું ને ધરતીનું પાથરણું જ નસીબ હોય ને દુર દુર સુધી પોતાની કલ્પના મુજબનું ઘર ખરીદવાની શક્તિ જણાતી ના હોય તેમનેય ઘર કરવાની હોંશ તો જાગે પણ તે પુરી ના થાય. આવામાં અચાનક જ જાગેલી હોંશ પૂર્ણ થવાની ખાત્રી થઈ જાય તે પળ કેવી સુખદ...

આવી જ સુખદ પળમાં અમારે નિમિત્ત બનવાનું થયું. છાપીમાં #સરાણિયા અને #દેવીપૂજક પરિવારોને સરકાર દ્વારા રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા ને મકાન બાંધવા માટે રૃપિયા સીત્તેર હજારેય મળવાના પણ એમાં કાંઈ #સેનિટેશન યુનીટ સાથેનું ઘર ના થાય. વળી પાછી પાસે બચતેય ક્યાં હતી. Vssm પાસેથી ત્રીસ હજારની વગર વ્યાજની લોન લેવાની ને સુંદર ઘર બનાવવાની તેમની વિનંતી. પાછી જરૃર પડે વધારે લેવાની પણ તમન્ના રાખી...

Vssm એ તેત્રીસ પરિવારોને નવ લાખ નેવું હજારની ઘર બાંધકામ માટે વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપી. સૌના મોંઢા પર આનંદ ને હવે પગને વિશ્રામ મળશે, ટાઢ, તાપ અને વરસાદ ખમી શકાય એવા ઘરમાં અમારો ગૃહપ્રવેશ થશે તેવી લાગણી....

બસ જલદી પાકા ઘરમાં રહેતા થાવ તેવી શુભેચ્છાઓ...

લોનના ચેકનું વિતરણ કર્યું તે વેળાની ને હાલમાં આ પરિવારો જ્યાં રહે છે તેની તસવીર...
