Mittal Patel meets Zamuba who took interest free loan
from VSSM

God always gives the best and when He does not give, He helps you to find the way to get the best. When God makes you wait, He is preparing to give you the best. One must be patient and continuously strive to do the best. 

Recently in Radhanpur, Patan, all who had been granted loans by VSSM, came to meet me.

They all had shown patience & persistence.

Zamuba & Madhuben said that while everyone went to work , they stayed back to take care of the home. However it was their dream to work and bring home a few rupees. If they get buffalos, they would get the fodder from the forest for free. From the milk that they would deliver to homes, they could earn some money. However the question was who would pay for the buffalo.

Dilipbhai wanted to sell fruits which required more funds, Mitulben wanted to grow her cutlery business, Arvindbhai wanted to do Mandap construction work, Bharatbhai wanted to do furniture work. In short, all had aspirations & dreams but had no funds to fulfill their dreams.

Our colleague Shankarbhai committed on behalf of VSSM that all would get loans. With the help of the loan they could convert their dreams into reality. Everyone's income increased.

Shankarbhai, in a lighter vein, said that if he has to come to collect instalments of loan he will not help them get further loan. This had the desired impact and all deposited their instalment on time in the VSSM account directly. Almost everyone's loan was getting over. Everyone talked about how the loan helped them increase their income. They quietly asked for a second loan. When we asked why the second loan, they reminded us that  we had told them to become financially stable which in turn would help to solve many other problems. They had dreams to fulfill.

We were happy to listen to them & promised them a second loan.

In Patan District we have given such loans to over 1000 families so that they could do independent business. We at VSSM are thankful to Respected Pratulbhai Shroff & Dr K R Foundation. Pratulbhai compares  education to a precious stone and to that we added financial stability. If these both are available to men, their future would be just great. They would become independent and that is what we want.

ઈશ્વર જયારે આપે છે ત્યારે સારુ જ આપે છે, નથી આપતા ત્યારે વધુ સારુ મેળવવાનો રસ્તો આપે છે પણ જ્યારે રાહ જોવડાવે ત્યારે તો સૌથી ઉત્તમ ફળ આપવાની એ તૈયારી કરે છે..

વાત છે ધીરજની અને જે પણ કાર્ય કરીએ તેમાં સતત મથ્યા કરવાની..

હમણાં પાટણના રાધનપુર જવાનું થયું. અમે રાધનપુરમાં ઘણા પરિવારોને આર્થિક રીતે તેઓ પગભર થાય તે માટે લોન આપેલી. તે એ બધા મળવા આવ્યા. એ દરેકની વાર્તા કાંઈક આવી જ. 

ઝમુબા અને મધુબહેને કહ્યું, 'ઘરના બધા કામે જાય ને અમે ઘર સંભાળીયે પણ મનમાં પોતાના હાથમાં બે પાંચ રૃપિયા આપ કમાઈના આવે એવી હોંશ. ભેંસ લઈએ તો ઘાસચારો તો વગડામાંથી મળી રહે ને ઘર ઘરાવું દૂધ ભરાવીએ તો બે પાંચ રૃપિયા રળી લેવાય. પણ ભેંસ લઈ કોણ આપે?'

દીલપીભાઈ શાકભાજીની લારી ચલાવે એમને ફ્રુટની લારી કરવી હતી પણ એમાં પૈસા ઘણા જોઈએ. આવું જ મીતુબેનનું પણ એમને કટલરીનો ધંધો વધારવો હતો તો અરવીંદભાઈને મંડપનો ધંધો કરવો હતો તો ભરતભાઈને ફર્નીચરનું કામ રાખવું હતું.

ટૂંકમાં સૌના સમણા મોટા હતા. પણ સમણાં પૂરા કરવા પૈસા નહીં.

અમારા કાર્યકર શંકરભાઈએ આ બધાને VSSM મદદ કરશેનું કહ્યું ને અમે લોન આપી..

જેેમાંથી બધાની સુખાકારી વધી..

'લોનના હપ્તા લેવા મને બોલાવશો તો ફેર લોન નહીં આપુ' એવી શંકરભાઈની મીઠી ટકોરે પણ કામ કર્યું ને બધા સીધા અમારા ખાતામાં જમા કરાવતા થયા. 

લગભગ બધાની લોન પૂર્ણ થવામાં હતી. આવકમાં કેવો વધારો થયો એની બધાએ વાત કરી. પછી હળવેકથી બીજી લોનની માંગણી કરી. 

શું કામ બીજી? એમ પુછ્યું તો કહે,

'તમે જ ક્યો છો ને કે પૈસાવાળા થાવ. પૈસા કમાશો તો ઘણા પ્રશ્નો આપો આપ ઉકલી જશે. તે અમારી આંખો હવે સ્વપ્ન જોતી થઈ ગઈ.'

સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું... આપીશું બીજી લોન પણ..

પાટણ જિલ્લામાં અમે 1000 થી વધારે પરિવારોને લોન આપી સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા કર્યા છે.

આ બેય ચીજો માણસ પાસે આવી જાય તો એની ગાડી નીકળી પડે અને એ સ્વતંત્ર થઈ જાય અને એ સ્વતંત્ર થાય એ અમારી નેમ...

“Kantibhai, now that you have prospered, it is time to pay it forwards to the society. So if you begin working in that direction…” before I could finish my sentence, Kantibhai responded. “Ben, my wife and I have been working to help alcohol addicts in our neighbourhood give up their addiction. We have helped 15 individuals leave their habit of consuming alcohol. We also counsel and mediate family disputes. It is an advantage that everyone listens to me. God has given me the ability to understand, and I have to make the most of it. I may not be able to provide financial assistance but can always use compassion and intellect to help others find happiness.

Kantibhai resides in Patan’s Harij. He traded snacks and confectionary through a wooden kiosk he had made adjoining his house. Lack of capital prevented realising his dream of building a pucca shop, but his habit of saving money and working hard with dedication brought him prosperity. Soon he builds his shop. All the funds were utilised towards the construction of the shop; Kantibhai lacked funds to buy goods and products to fill up the shop, so he requested a loan from VSSM’s Mohanbhai (Kantibhai knows the VSSM team in the region).

 VSSM provided a loan of Rs. 20,000, the amount helped him buy a small refrigerator to begin selling dairy products. “The fridge has doubled my income.” Kantibhai shared. The current sales touch Rs 3000 to Rs 3500 with comfortable profits. 

 Kantibhai aspires to stock some more products that will help him boost sales. We pray to almighty for his continued success and salute him for his thoughtfulness for his community.

કાંતીભાઈ તમે સુખી થયા હવે ફરજ સમાજ માટે કાંઈક કરવાની. એ દિશામાં...'  હુું વાક્ય પુરુ કરુ તે પહેલાં જ એમણે કહ્યું, 'બેન હું ને મારી ઘરવાળી અમારા મહેલ્લામાં કોઈ દારૃના રવાડે ચડી ગ્યું હોય તો એને વ્યસન મુક્ત કરવાનું કરીએ છીએ.. આજ સુધી લગભગ 15 લોકોને આ બદીમાંથી મુક્ત કર્યા. આ સિવાય કોઈના ઘરમાં પારિવારી કંકાસ હોય તો પણ અમે વચમાં પડી બધુ ઉકલે તે માટે પ્રયત્ન કરીએ.. વળી મારી વાત બધા માને પણ ખરા.. ભગવાને મતી આપી છે તો એનો સદઉપયોગ તો કરવો પડે. આર્થિક રીતે ભલે કોઈને મદદ ન કરી શકુ પણ જીભથી તો થઈ જ શકે બસ એ કરુ છુ...'

કાન્તીભાઈ પાટણના હારીજમાં રહે. એમના ઘર પાસે એમણે લાકડાનું કેબીન બનાવેલું એમાં એ ગોળી બિસ્કીટ ટૂંકમાં નાસ્તાના પડીકા રાખી વેચવાનું કરે. ઈચ્છા પોતાની દુકાન થાય એવી પણ મુડી નહોતી. પણ ધીમે ધીમે બચત કરતા ગયા. 

ધંધાની ધગશ ને વળી નિષ્ઠા તો જબરી એટલે બસ કુદરતે બરકત આપવાનું નક્કી કર્યું ને એમણે કેબીન કાઢી નાનકડી દુકાન કરી. 

પણ દુકાનમાં શોભે તેવો સામાન ભરાવવા પૈસા નહીં. VSSMના કાર્યોથી એ પરિચીત એમણે અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈ પાસે લોનની માંગ કરીને અમે 20,000 આપ્યા. જેમાંથી એ દૂધ, દહીંનો વેપાર કરી શકે તે માટે ફ્રીજ લાવ્યા ને કાંતીભાઈ કહે, આ એક ફ્રીજથી જ મારી દુકાનની આવક બમણી થઈ ગઈ. 

હાલ એ 3000 થી 3500 નો વેપાર રોજ કરે છે. નફો પણ સારો એવો છે. 

એમનું સ્વપ્ન દુકાનમાં હજુ વધારે સામાન ભરાવવાનું છે જેથી વેપાર વધારે થાય.  કાંતીભાઈ સફળ થાય તેવી પ્રાર્થના ને તેમની સેવા પારાયણતાને નમન..

સ્વતંત્ર ધંધાની ધગશ રાખવાવાળા પરિવારોને લોન આપી શકીએ તે માટે મદદ કરનાર સ્વજનોનો આભાર...એમના થકી જ આ બધુ થાય છે.

Chatur Vansfoda ,his wife and their day at work…

He might be  christened Chatur (clever, shrewd, tactful), but he is humble to the core. Hardly 28, Chatur is wise  beyond his age. His daily deeds will  make you assume that his goal in life is to serve and help others.

Chatur has had a very difficult childhood. His father was under heavy debt. After the elder brother married and setup a separate house the responsibility to paying off his father’s debt fell on his shoulders. Chatur and his wife are kind of people who  would die for the family.

VSSM provided him with a loan to buy a Chakda.

Chatur belongs to Vansfoda community, the basketmakers of the yore. Chatur never acquired  the skills to basket making hence,  it was not the profession he was vying for. Nonetheless, he began selling plasticware on  his Chakda. His wife too contributed by selling them in vicinity while Chatur set out for di

stant regions. The couple put in immense amount of hard work but the amount of debt just did not reduce. The daily amount he needed to repay his father’s debt was Rs. 1200. He needed more money to keep paying that amount and stop it from escalating.

The organisation had no doubt on Chatur’s integrity and intentions, it was 3 other individuals from Vansfoda community who intentionally defaulted VSSM’s loan that was giving the entire community a bad name. In fact,  Chatur and his brother Pratap made all efforts to convince the defaulters to pay off the loans,  but that never happened.

‘VSSM is our guardian,  how can we cheat our parent? VSSM’s money should be considered pious and we cannot cheat with it,” says Chatur. What may astonish us all is that he solely managed to pay off the Rs. 65,000 of all the 3 individuals whose intentions went kaput,  so that the Vansfoda community did not earn a bad name on the books of the organisation. It is hard to believe humans like this exist anymore. And this is the reason I have tremendous respect for Chatur.

“When I failed to pay the instalments of the private money lenders they would come searching for me, all through the night I would hide in the bushes surrounding my village. I wanted to free myself from debt. I am a self-respecting man, but people do not understand  that poor too have self-respect. VSSM  helped me live, has made me what I am today.”

VSSM’s Kanhubhai and Chhayaben talked the moneylenders out of following and harassing Chatur and helped him gradually pay off his loan.

Chatur’s business is doing well, we gave him another loan and he pays monthly Rs. 15,000 to 20,000 as instalment. A causal remark that his habit of eating gutka doesn’t suit him made him give up that too.

“I want to earn enough so that I can donate Rs. 1 lakh to VSSM,” he says. Well he already made a donation when he paid off someone else’s loans. And still to have such desire goes on to say how large hearted and giving Chatur is.

Chatur, VSSM is what it is because of individuals like you. We pray to almighty that may you flourish in life, may all your dreams come true.

નામ એનું ચતુર પણ ખોટી ચતુરાઈ આવડે નહીં. 

બીજા માટે જાત ઘસી નાખનાર ચતુરની ઉંમર 28ની પણ નહીં હોય. છતાં સમજદારીમાં એ ભલાભલાને પાછળ પાડી દે એવો.

પરિવાર માટે મરી ફીટવાની ભાવના ચતુર અને એની ઘરવાળી બેયની.

ચતુર નાનો હતો એ વખતે ઘરમાં એકપછી એક તકલીફો આવીને એના બાપા દેવાના ડુંગરમાં દબાતા ગયા. મોટો દીકરો પ્રતાપ લગ્ન કરીને જુદો થયો. એ શક્ય મદદ કરે પણ બાપા જેની ભેગા રહ્યા એ ચતુરના માથે બાપાનું દેવું ફીંડવાની જવાબદારી આવી.

અમે એને લોન આપી અને એ છકડો લાવ્યો. 

વાંસફોડાનો પરંપરાગત ધંધો વાંસમાંથી સૂડલાંં, ટોપલાં બનાવવાનો. પણ ચતુરને એ આવડે નહીં અગર શીખીને કરવાનું વિચારેય તોય મોંધો પડે. એટલે એણે પ્લાસ્ટીકના તબકડાં છકડાંમાં લઈને વેચવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. એની ઘરવાળી પણ માથે તગારાં લઈને વેચવા જાય.

બેય માણસ ઘણી મહેનત કરે પણ દેવાનો ડુંગર ઘટવાની જગ્યાએ વધતો જ જાય. છતાં ચતુર હિંમત હાર્યા વગર પૂરી ઘગશથી કામ કરે જાય. 

ચતુરને ધંધો વધારવા પૈસાની જરૃર હતી. જેથી વ્યાજવા લીધેલા પૈસાનો દૈનિક હપ્તો રૃા.1200 સરળતાથી ચુકવી શકે.

ચતુરની નિષ્ઠા પર કોઈ સવાલ નહોતો પણ વાંસફોડા સમાજના ત્રણ લોકો એ VSSMમાંથી લોન લીધેલી પણ થોડા હપ્તા ભર્યા પછી એ લોકોએ હપ્તા ભરવાનું બંધ કર્યું. આમ કુલ 65,000 ભરવાના બાકી હતા. 

ચતુર અને એના ભાઈ પ્રતાપ બંનેએ લોન ના ભરનાર ત્રણ વ્યક્તિને ઘણા સમજાવ્યા પણ એ ત્રણની નિયતીમાં ખોટ આવી ગઈ.

ચતુર કહે, 'સંસ્થાનો પૈસો તો પવિત્ર પૈસો અને સંસ્થાના ખાતામાં વાંસફોડા નાદારી નોંધાવે એ ના ચાલે.'

આ વાત કરનાર ચતુરે એકલા હાથે 65,000 વ્યાજવા લાવીને એ ત્રણે લોન પુરી કરી. જેથી વાંસફોડા સમાજ સંસ્થાના ચોપડે નાદાર ના દેખાય.

આવું કોઈ કરી શકે એ માનવામાં જ ના આવે એટલે ચતુર મારે મન સૌથી નોખો માણસ છે.

ગજબ સમજણ આ છોકરાંની. સંસ્થાને એ માઈ-બાપ માને. એ કહે, 'સંસ્થાએ જ મને જીવાડ્યો છે. દેણદારોને હપ્તો ના દઈ શકાય તો એ લોકો ઘેર આવીને મારી જાતા. એમનાથી બચવા હું રાતના બાર એક વાગ્યા હુદી ઝાડી, ઝાંખરામાં પડ્યો રેતો. આ બધામાંથી છૂટવું હતું. ઈજ્જતદાર માણસ છું પણ નાના માણસની ઈજ્જત કોને સમજાય?'

સંસ્થાના કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ, છાયાબહેને ચતુરના લેણદારો સાથે વાત કરી ને એને ધીમે ધીમે દેણામાંથી મુક્ત કર્યો.

સાથે છકડા પર ધંધો સરસ ચાલે એનું આયોજન ચતુરે કર્યું. અમે એને બીજી લોન આપી. ચતુરે અવેરીને ધંધો કર્યો.

હાલ ચતુર માસીક સંસ્થાને 15,000 થી 20,000 લોનના હપ્તા પેટે ભરે છે.

તમાકુ ને પાન, બીડીના વ્યસન પણ હતા પણ એક વખત ટંકારા મળ્યોને આ ના શોભે એમ કહ્યું ને એણે એ મુક્યું ત્યારથી એણે આ બદીને હાથ નથી લગાડ્યો.

ચતુર જેવા માણસો સંસ્થા સાથે છે એટલે જ સંસ્થા ઊજળી છે. 

ચતુરની ઈચ્છા ઘણું કમાઈને સંસ્થાને એક વખત તો લાખ રૃપિયાનું અનુદાન આપવાની છે. 65,000 બીજાના ભરીને એ દાતા તો થઈ જ ગયો છે છતાં લાખ આપવાની ભાવના રાખવી એ કાંઈ નાની વાત નથી..

ચતુરની મનોકામના પૂર્ણ થાય એ ખૂબ મોટો અને દિલદાર માણસ બને એવી ઈશ્વરને પ્રાર્થના કરીએ...

ફોટોમાં ચતુર અના છકડા અને ખભેખભા મીલાવી કામ કરતી એની ઘરવાળી સાથે...
