When the floods hit Banaskantha the last monsoon, PunjaBhai, a resident of Totana Village was anxious and worried about the condition of his submerged shop and the possible losses that the flood will cause to him. The process of waiting for the water to go down and facing the losses was very stressful for Punjabhai and in this extremely stressful period, he had a heart attack. 

He was immediately rushed to hospital and by the grace of god, he was taken to hospital on time and he was able to recover well. Once the water seeped out of the village, VSSM team had gone to Totada for give relief kits and on talking to Punjabhai they discovered that both of his shops had been destroyed. On hearing this, VSSM expressed their heartfelt sympathies to him and his family and decide to extend him and his son Amratbhai an interest free loan of Rs20, 000/- each. With that amount that were able to restock their shops again and are back on their foot now. They repay the monthly amount of Rs 2,000/- and are also saving the money for themselves.

પુજાભાઇને મળ્યું નવજીવન અને #Vssm ના કારણે ધંધામા આવ્યું પરિવર્તન....

બનાસકાંઠામા આવેલ ભયંકર પાણીનુ પુર જોઇ ટોટાણામા રહેતા બજાણીયા પુંજાભાઇ ખુબ ગભરાઇ ગયેલા તેમને ગામમાં 2 દુકાન હતી એમને એમ કે હવે અમારી દુકાનો તણાઇ જશે અમારા ઘરોની શું હાલત થશે બાળકોનુ શું થશે આ બધી ચિંતા સતાવવા લાગી અચાનક પાણીનુ પુર વધતાજ બધાને ત્યાથી સ્થળાંતર કરાવાયા પુંજાભાઇને પાણીનુ પુર જોતા જ હાર્ટએટેક આવી ગયુ પુંજાભાઇને તાત્કાલિક પાટણ હોસ્પિટલ ખસેડવામાં આવ્યા.સમયસર લીધેલી સારવારથી તેઓ બચી ગયા. પરંતુ, પુરમાં ઘરનો બધો જ માલસામાન તણાઇ ગયો 2 દુકાનોનો સામાન પણ તણાઇ ગયો ને ખુબ નુકશાન થયું. 

પુરના પાણી ઓસરતા ટોટાણા જવાનુ થયુ રાશનકિટ અને વાસણકિટો બધાં પરિવારોને આપી પુજાભાઇએ પુરની પરિસ્થિતિ કહી તેમની વેદના વ્યકત કરી 2 દુકાનો તણાઇ ગઇ એ સાંભળી ખુબ દુખ થયુ. vssm દ્વારા તેમને વગર વયાજે લોન આપવાનુ નક્કી કર્યું. તેમના દિકરા અમરતને 20,000 અને પુજાભાઇને 20,000 ની લોન આપી ફરીથી દુકાનમા નવો માલસામાન ભરી દિધો હાલ તેમની 2 દુકાનો બહુ સારી ચાલે છે અને દરમહિને 2000 નો હપ્તો ભરે છે અને સારૂ કમાય પણ છે.

“No one cares for us, no one is bothered for poor like us. Every morning begins with this nagging worry, will the government bother to consider our application, will today be a better day!! Every Monday marks a visit to the Collector’s office but, the meeting happens if and when the officer wishes. Garbage like us is seldom of any importance to anyone. We have made so many rounds to Gandhinagar but, there too the attitude has been extrememly disheartening. The residential plots, for which we have been struggling for so many years continues to remain elusive.

Thankfully, my business is doing good! You provided me a loan and Tohidbhai(VSSM team member) provided all the moral support and courage that I needed. His support freed me from the fear of police. I now understand the nuances of business better. Recently, I took a car and a shop for Rs. 16 lacs. Although everything is on mortgage but, I had the confidence to take such decisions. Earlier, I would be to be tongue-tied before the merchants never negotiate for a better price but, your guidance that the merchants need us as much as we need them provided me the confidence I needed to negotiate with these merchants better. Now, I see the Salat community buying their bedsheets and rugs from me!! If the business continues to flourish as it is doing now, in coming three years I would care the least if the government support. I will buy 2 bigha land and construct the homes for Salats.. What rubbish is this, to go and beg to the government…. we need to look up to the government because we do not have enough resources, we are not beggars!!”

This is 35 years old Amlabhai Salat from Vijapur. He sells bedsheets, rugs, glassware for living. His business has done very well hence, he is now determined to help his community come out of grip of poverty. The financial stability he has experienced has given him the courage to dream of a better life without the support of government. We are not sure if the authorities will be listening to him but, VSSM is sure by his side and is committed to support him.

We were in Vijapur recently and the above-mentioned narrative is one of those casual discussion we had with Amlabhai. It sure did light up our day!! Amlabhai today is very self-assured and confident gone are those days when a police jeep crossing him by would send shivers across his spine, he had no guts to bargain for a better price!!

‘હાહરુ રોજ હવાર ઊઠી ન સરકારના નોમની રોમાયણ. આજ જગ્યા આલશે, કાલ આલશે એ આશાએ દર સોમવારે કલેક્ટર કચેરીના ધમર ધક્કા. સાહેબનેય મન હોય તો મલ બાકી અમારા જેવા ઉકેડાની ઈમન ચો હાડાબારી. ગોંધીનગરેય ઘણું જ્યાં પણ હાહરુ અમાર ગરીબોમાં કોય ન રસ જ નહીં. રેવા પલોટ મળ એ માટે ધોડા કરીન થાચી જ્યાં પણ કોય હાથ ના આયુ.

પણ હવ ધંધો હારો હેડ હ. તમે લોણ આલી ન તોહીદભઈ(VSSM ના કાર્યકરે)એ હેમત આલી તે પોલીસ બોલીસની બીક હવ ભાજી જઈ. ધંધામોય હવ ઘણી હમજ પડહ. મે હમણો ગાડી લીધી ન સોળ લાખની દુકોન લીધી. હા બધુ ઉધારમો જ કર્યું પણ પેલા વેપારી કન બોલવાની હેમત નતી થતી. પણ તમે હમજાયું ક ઈની ચાદરો તમારા વના વેચાબ્બાની નહીં તે એ તમન વચને બોધ ઈમ તમેય ઈન બોધો.. અમે વેપારીન વચને બોધ્યો ન દુકોન લીધી. હવ મારી દુકોનમોથી જ બધા સલાટોન ચાદરો વેચવા બલ્લે આલીશ.

હાલ હેડ એવો ધંધો બે તણ વરહ હેડન તો સરકારની કોઈ હાડાબારી જ નઈ રે. બે વિધા જમીન વેચાતી લઈન ઈમાં અમારા સલાટોના ઘર બોધી દઈશ. સરકાર કન રોજ ઊભા રહેવાનું ન એ જોણ ક આઈ જ્યાં ભીખારાં. પણ સાહેબ સગવડ નહીં નકર કોય ન ભીખારી બનવાનો શોખ ના હોય...’

પાંત્રીસી પણ નહીં વટાવનાર અમલાભાઈ સલાટ વિજાપુરના રહેવાસી. ચાદર, ગાલીચા ને કાચની વસ્તુઓ વેચવાનું કરે. બે પાંદડે સુખી થ્યાં છે ને પોતાની વસાહતમાં રહેતા અન્યોને સુખી કરવાની હામ એમના મનમાં છે...

સરકારની હાડાબારી વગર પોતાનું પોત મેળે કરી લેવાનું સ્વપ્ન એમણે સેવ્યું છે. આ સ્વપ્ન સાકાર થાય એ માટે સરકારની તો ખબર નહીં પણ સંસ્થા ને અમે સૌ એમની પડખે છીએ.

તાજેતરમાં વિજાપુર ગયા ને અમલાભાઈ મળ્યા તે વખતે અનાયાસે જ તેમણે ઉપરની વાત કરી.. સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું.

રસ્તાની વચમાંથી પસાર થતી પોલીસની જીપ જોઈને ડરી જતા, વેપારી માલ નહીં આપે એ બીકે વેપારી કહે એ ભાવે સામાન ખરીદતા ચાર વર્ષ પહેલાંના અમલાભાઈ ને ક્યાં આજના બાહોશ અમલાભાઈ. 

સુખી કરત તુ સુખી કરજે પ્રાર્થના અમલાભાઈ માટે....
