Mittal Patel meets Nasib in Vadi settlement of Vadodara

Fortune is his name, yet fortune never favored him.

Born into the Madari community, Nasib could not study much. His father used to perform snake-charming acts, but when the practice was banned, the family was pushed into deep struggle. To support the household, Nasib worked as a daily-wage laborer — yet it was never enough to gather any meaningful savings.

He dreamed of changing his life by owning his own rickshaw.

He saved a certain amount through hard labor and requested the remaining amount as a loan from our volunteer Sunilbhai through the organization. We provided the loan, and he bought the rickshaw.

Today, Nasib proudly drives his rickshaw through the streets of Vadodara.

He says, “Now I drive my rickshaw with full confidence!”

The joy on his face is truly remarkable.

Nasib still lives in a small hut, enduring dirt and difficulties during the monsoon.

His dream is to buy an eco-friendly vehicle and build a permanent house.

Seeing his dedication and hard work, it is certain that his dreams will come true soon.

Through the combined efforts of KRSF and VSSM, over 12,000 families like Nasib’s have become self-reliant and started independent livelihoods.

નસીબ જેનું નામ પણ એનું નસીબ ચમકે નહીં.

મદારી સમુદાયમાં જન્મેલો નસીબ ઝાઝુ ભણી ન શક્યો. પિતા તો સાપનો ખેલ કરતા પણ એના પર પ્રતિબંધ આવ્યો. પરિવાર જીવવા માટે સંઘર્ષ કરવા લાગ્યો. નસીબ છૂટક મજૂરી કરી ઘર ચલાવવામાં ફાળો આપે. પણ એથી કંઈ ઝાઝું ભેગું ન થાય.

જીવન બદલવા પોતાની રીક્ષા ખરીદવાનું એણે સપનું સેવ્યું.

એણે મજૂરી કરીને ચોક્કસ રકમ ભેગી ને બાકીની એણે અમારા કાર્યકર સુનીલભાઈને સંસ્થામાંથી લોન પેટે આપવા કહ્યું. અમે લોન આપી ને એ રીક્ષા લાવ્યો.  

આજે નસીબ વડોદરાની ગલીઓમાં ગર્વથી પોતાની રીક્ષા ચલાવે છે. એ કહે,"હવે હું વટથી રીક્ષા ચલાવું છું!" એનાં ચહેરા પરનો આનંદ અદભૂત.

નસીબ હજુ છાપરામાં રહે છે, ચોમાસામાં ગંદકી અને મુશ્કેલીઓ સહેવી પડે છે,

એનું સપનું ઈકો ગાડી ખરીદવાનું અને પાકુ ઘર બનાવવાનું.

નસીબની મહેનત અને લગન જોઈને એનું સપનુ ઝટ સાકાર થશે એમ ચોક્કસ કહી શકાય.

KRSF અને VSSM ની સંયુક્ત પહેલથી આજ સુધી 12,000 પરિવારો નસીબની જેમ પોતાના પગ પર ઉભા થઈ સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા થયા છે.

Prakashbhai Keshabhai Vadi got loan to start his dream tea stall. He was formerly a laborer. Due to the Deesa highway and GIDC at proximity, the trucks have good frequency. In particular, cement and compost sacks are being transported the most. Prakashbhai used to carry the sacks. If there is no transport, then there is no income for Parakashbhai. Prakashbhai is not educated, but looking at his wisdom, it can be said that he is a good entrepreneur. He had an ambition since long to start a grocery store, when he has money. Prakashbhai spoke to Maheshbhai (VSSM worker) for the loan and his ambition. 

Prakashbhai says, “Ben, I was thinking of starting a business but I could not afford it. We, the of vadi community families have been living in the shanty at Nehru Nagar near Deesa GIDC area for the last 3-6 years. My parents are currently living in Old Deesa. I have two daughters. My wife makes bamboo baskets at home. But currently she is pregnant so can't do that work. If I got a loan of Rs.20,000/- and the shop is going well at present. I wish to have a tea shop at GIDC, so in Diwali, Dineshbhai and I had a tea shop in partnership. Dineshbhai vadi is my neighbor. He drives a loading rickshaw. We started running the shop, but I am illiterate and that caused trouble. In the shops around, people suggested to maintain their records of the sell and the PPI who sell rater. I am not educated, I do not know how to write so, the tea stall which we had rented at a cost of Rs. 5,000/- is closed. If the tea stall here is not set up here then I will start a tea stall on Deesa highway. I want to teach my daughters. My own marriage took place at a very young age, so I want to educate my two daughters and would not think of their marriage until they become educated adults. 

Prakashbhai wants to save money by opening an account in Sukanya scheme in the name of both of his daughters. So that by the time their daughters get married, there will be some savings in their name. Prakashbhai wanted to start the shop, so that the people of his settlement don’t have to venture out to buy things. We wish him all the success and happiness for his shop and future…

ડીસા હાઇવે પર ચાની કિટલી કરવાનું સપનું સેવતા પ્રકાશભાઈ કેશાભાઇ વાદી VSSMમાંથી લોન મળી તે પહેલા મજૂરીકામ કરતા હતા. ડીસા હાઇવે અને GIDC નજીક હોવાથી ટ્રકોમાં માલસામાનની અવરજવર સૌથી વધારે થાય. જેમાં ખાસ કરીને સિમેન્ટ અને ખાતરની બોરીઓ સૌથી વધારે આવે. પ્રકાશભાઈ બોરીઓ ચઢાવવા-ઉતારવાનું કામ કરતા. ટ્રકો ના આવે તો મજૂરી મળે નહીં તો ખાલી હાથ જવું પડે. આમ તો પ્રકાશભાઈ ભણેલા નથી પણ એમની સમજદારી જોતા એવું કહી શકાય કે તેઓ ગણેલા તો છે. તેમને ઘણા સમયથી એવી ખેવના કે પૈસાની વ્યવસ્થા થાય તો તેઓ કરિયાણાની દુકાન કરે. લોન માટે પ્રકાશભાઈએ મહેશભાઈ (VSSM ના કાર્યકર)ને વાત કરી.

પ્રકાશભાઈ કહે, “ બેન, ક્યારનું વિચારતો હતો કે પોતાનો ધંધો કરું પણ પૈસાના અભાવે નહોતો કરી શકતો. અમે વાદી પરિવારો છેલ્લા ૩૦ થી ૩૫ વર્ષથી ડીસા GIDC પાસે નહેરુનગરમાં છાપરા બાંધી વસવાટ કરીએ છીએ. મારા મમ્મી પપ્પા હાલ જૂના ડીસામાં વસવાટ કરે છે. મારે બે દિકરીઓ છે. મારી પત્ની ઘરે વાંસની છાબડીઓ બનાવે છે. પરંતુ હાલ પ્રેગનેન્ટ છે તેથી નથી બનાવી શકતી. મને વાંસના ટોપલા બનાવતા આવડતું નથી તેથી હું મજૂરીકામ કરવા જતો. સંસ્થામાંથી વગર વ્યાજની રૂપિયા ૨૦,૦૦૦/-ની લોન મળી તો વસાહત પાસે એક કેબિનમાં મેં કરિયાણાની દુકાન ચાલુ કરી. હાલ દુકાન સારી ચાલે છે. મારી ઈચ્છા GIDC પાસે ચાની દુકાન કરવાની હતી. તેથી દિવાળીમાં દિનેશભાઈ અને મેં ભાગીદારીમાં ચાની દુકાન કરી. દિનેશભાઈ મારા પડોશી છે. તે પોતે લોડીંગ રિક્ષા ચલાવે છે. સવાર-સાંજ તે દુકાને આવે પણ હું ભણેલો નથી, જેના કારણે થોડી મુશ્કેલી થઇ. આજુબાજુ આવેલી દુકાનોમાં લોકો કહે કે ચોપડીમાં ચાનો હિસાબ રાખો અને અમે મહિને પૈસા આપીએ. હું ભણેલો નથી તેથી લખતા આવડતું નથી તો હિસાબ કેવી રીતે રાખું. ચાની કિટલી ભાડે રાખી હતી જેનું રૂપિયા ૫,૦૦૦ ભાડું હતું. જેથી હાલ ચાની કિટલી બંધ રાખી છે. જો અહિયાં ચાનો ધંધો સેટ નહીં થાય તો હું ડીસા હાઇવે પર ચાની કિટલી કરીશ. મારી બંને દિકરીઓને હું ભણાવવા માંગું છું. મારા પોતાના લગ્ન નાની ઉંમરમાં થઇ ગયા હતા તેથી મારી બંને દિકરીઓ જ્યાં સુધી ભણી ગણીને મોટી ના થાય ત્યાં સુધી લગ્ન નહીં કરું.”

પ્રકાશભાઈ બંને દિકરીઓના નામે સુકન્યા યોજનામાં ખાતું ખોલાવી બચત કરવા માંગે છે જેથી તેમની દિકરીઓના લગ્ન થાય ત્યાં સુધીમાં તેમના નામે થોડી ઘણી બચત તો થઇ જાય. પ્રકાશભાઈને દુકાન કરવાનો હેતુ એ હતો કે વસાહતના છોકરાઓને બહાર સામાન લેવા ના જવું પડે અને નજીકમાં તેમને જરૂરી સામાન મળી રહે. તેમની કરિયાણાની કેબિન ભવિષ્યમાં દુકાનનું સ્વરૂપ લે તેવી શુભેચ્છા...
