The 8 Vansfoda families have been living in Morbi’s Beri village for the last 20 years and yet they lacked any identity proofs. No ration card, no Voter ID cards, no Adhar Card nothing at all.  In 2013 VSSM’s Kanubhai came across these families and got to know about their status. He briefed the families with the activities of VSSM and the prerequisite to send the children to school before VSSM begins to support any of the nomadic families. Hence Bhupatbhai decided to send his two children to Doliya Hostel while other families also planned to send their kids to other VSSM operated hostels. VSSM helped these families receive Ration cards, Voter ID cards, Election Cards etc. Two of these families were provided loans that they managed to repay on schedule. Bhupatbhai was aware of this support hence he approached VSSM with a request to provide a loan of Rs. 30,000 to help him meet the expense of his daughter’s wedding. These are not the reasons for which VSSM provides support but if we did not lend the money there is always fear of such families falling into the debt-traps of private money lenders. Hence, VSSM did extend the support and money helped him marry off his daughter with peace and remain stress free at the same time!! He was so humble that he thanked VSSM for its support during the marriage ceremony while his entire community was present…

ભુપતભાઈ હરિભાઈ વાંસફોડા છેલ્લા ૨૦ વર્ષથી વાંસફોડા સમાજના ૮ પરિવારો મોરબી તાલુકાના બેડી ગામમાં વસવાટ કરે છે. તે પરિવારો પાસે પોતાની ઓળખરૂપે કોઈ જ પ્રકારનો પુરાવો ન હતો, ના રેશનકાર્ડ, ના આધારકાર્ડ અલબત્ત ચૂંટણી કાર્ડ પણ નહિ. ૨૦૧૩માં આપણા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈની આ પરિવારો સાથે મુલાકાત થઇ અને તેમની પાસે કોઈ જ પ્રકારના પુરાવા નથી તેવી ખબર પડી. ઉપરાંત એ પણ જાણવા મળ્યું કે તેમના બાળકો કોઈ શાળામાં ભણવા પણ નથી જતા. કનુભાઈ એ આપણી સંસ્થા VSSMની કામગીરી આ પરિવારોને જણાવી અને કહ્યું કે તમે તમારા બાળકોને શાળાએ મોકલશો તો અમે તમને તમારા ઓળખના પુરાવા લાવવામાં મદદ કરીશું. ભુપતભાઈના બે દીકરાઓ આપણી ડોલિયા હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણે છે અને બીજા પરિવારો પણ તેમના બાળકોને આપણી સંસ્થા દ્વારા ચાલતી હોસ્ટેલમાં મુકવાનું વિચારે છે. VSSMનાં પ્રયત્નોથી આ ૮ પરિવારોને રેશનકાર્ડ, આધારકાર્ડ તથા ઈલેક્શનકાર્ડ મળ્યા. આ પહેલા આપણે ૨ પરિવારોને વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપી હતી જે તેઓએ સમયસર ભરપાઈ કરી. આ લોન વિશે ભૂપતભાઈ જાણ હતી તેથી તેમની દીકરીના લગ્ન માટે તેમણે ૩૦,૦૦૦ રૂપિયાની લોનની માંગણી કરી. પોતે મજુરી કરે એટલે લગ્નનો ખર્ચો થઇ શકે તેમ ન હતો.જો તેઓ ને મદદ ના મળી હોત તો તેઓ ને વ્યાજે પૈસા લાવવા પડત અને વ્યાજનું ચક્કર તેમને પોતે આર્થિક રીતે ક્યારેય પગભર ના થવા દેત. આ વાત ભૂપતભાઈના જીવનમાં એટલી બધી મહત્વની હતી કે તેમણે દીકરીના લગ્નમાં આખા સમાજ વચ્ચે VSSMનો આભાર વ્યક્ત કર્યો.

This is a story  about 8 Vansfoda families who for many years have been staying on the wasteland in the outskirts of Bedi village in Rajkot. As is the case with thousands of nomadic families these families too did not have any identity proofs like Voter ID cards, Ration Cards etc. VSSM facilitated the obtainment of these documents for them. 

The Vansfoda is the community skilled in making bamboo basketry but, with the shrinking demand of their products and supply of raw material the community is gradually shifting to other menial professions one of which is building fences around farms. However it is difficult for them to find work all the time. They need to keep wandering in search for work. Remaining away from home for long period isn’t advisable especially when officials come to verification of their address.

With an intention to find solution to this continuous wandering 2 families decided to start their business of selling plastic homeware. VSSM provided a loan of Rs. 10,000 each to both the families. But they later realised that the business will not stop their wandering as they were to move from village to village to sell their plasticware. Ultimately they decide d to take up contracts of building fences just like they did earlier but in a different role, earlier they worked as labourers but now they took up the jobs as contractors. With the loan amount raw material like barb wire, cement pillars etc and took some material on credit from the supplier. Once the farmer makes payment after the job is done the money is used to pay VSSM’s loan instalment,  credit amount tot the supplier and run the household. The families  are gradually settling down and improving their economic footing.

We are glad to witness such changes in lives of the nomadic families and hope to support more and more families improve their financial status enabling them to live a dignified life. 

vssmની મદદથી વાંસફોડા પરિવારોએ નવા વ્યવસાયમાં ઝંપલાવ્યું.

રાજકોટ તાલુકાના બેડીગામમાં ૮ વાંસફોડા પરિવારો ગામથી દુર પડતર ખરાબાની જમીનમાં વર્ષોથી રહે. પણ આ પરિવારો પાસે પણ અન્ય વિચરતી જાતિની જેમ જ પોતાની ઓળખના પુરાવા એટલે કે, મતદારકાર્ડ, રેશનકાર્ડ વગેરે નહિ. vssmની મદદથી આ બધું આ પરિવારોને મળ્યું. હવે પ્રશ્ન રોજગારીનો હતો. વાંસમાંથી  સુડલા, ટોપલા બનાવવાનું કામ કરતા વાંસફોડા પરિવારો વાંસ મોંઘો થતાં આ વ્યવસાય છોડી ખેતરમાં તારની વાડ કરવાની મજૂરી તરફ વળ્યા. પણ ગામમાં કાયમ મજૂરી મળે નહિ અને સતત વિચરતા રહે તો પણ જે આધાર પુરાવા મળ્યા છે એની ખરાઈ વખતે તકલીફ ઉભી થાય. એમણે પ્લાસ્ટીકના તબકડા વેચવાનું નક્કી કર્યું અને એ માટે ૮ માંથી બે પરિવારોએ શરૂઆતમાં લોન લેવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. આપણે રૂ.૧૦,૦૦૦ની લોન પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને આપી. પણ લોન લીધા પછી એમને પ્રશ્ન થયો કે તબકડા વેચવા પણ ગામે ગામ ફરવાનું તો થવાનું જ ને.. એમને વિચરણ નહોતું કરવું. હા વિચરણ આસપાસના ગામો સુધીનું ચાલે પણ જીલ્લા બદલી એમને નહોતી કરવી. આખરે તેઓ જે ખેતરમાં તાર ફ્રેન્સીગ કરવાની મજૂરી કરતા હતાં ત્યાં જ કોન્ટ્રાક પર જાતે જ તાર ફ્રેન્સીગનું કામ રાખવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. રૂ.૨૦,૦૦૦માં સિમેન્ટની થાંભલી અને તાર લાવ્યાં દુકાનદારે પણ થોડો વધારે સમાન ઉધાર આપ્યો. આમ કામ શરુ થયું. ખેડૂત તારની વાળનું કામ પતે પછી પૈસા ચુકવે. એમાંથી આ પરિવારનું ઘર ચાલે, vssmની લોનનો માસિક હપ્તો ભરાય અને દુકાનદારનું ઉધાર પણ ચૂકવાય. આ પરિવારોનું કામ ધીમે ધીમે કામ ગોઠવી રહ્યું છે. જેનો vssmને આનંદ છે.

વધુને વધુ વિચરતા પરિવારોને રોજગારી આપી શકીએ તો આ પરિવારોની આર્થિક સ્થિતિ જરૂર સુધરશે અને તેઓ સ્વમાનભેર જીવી શકશે.

VSSM supports Hameerbhai Vansfoda’s new venture of selling household plasticware….

Hameerbhai Vansfoda  a skilled bamboo basketmaker cannot afford to make baskets anymore- reason the increasing cost of bamboo is making it difficult for him to source bamboo and keep the prices of his products reasonable….hence he is left with no choice  but to search for alternate means of livelihood. Hameerbhai is a resident of Ludra village of Diyodar block. He stays on the government wasteland. 

Like Hameerbhai,  thousands of nomadic families are being forced to reinvent their livelihood options. The changing markets, production techniques, new forest  and  wildlife laws, modern means of entertainment etc have had negative impact on the traditional occupations of these nomadic communities who were so dependent on their inherent skills that they never felt the need to pick any other skills.  In the present times this need to search new vocations is more pressing than ever. 

Hameerbhai was familiar with the activities of VSSM, the organisation that facilitated the process of his Antoday ration card and ensured that his name entered the BPL list. Hameerbhai desired to start his own business of selling plastic buckets, tubs, baskets, stools and other household plasticware. But the venture required capital investment that he did not have. He proposed for a loan to VSSM. A loan of Rs. 30,000 was granted by VSSM and Rs. 15,000 Hameerbhai borrowed from his friend. With the money he bought enough plasticware to be sold by the husband-wife duo. They began with selling the good around Diyodar and later expanded their area to Himmatnagar and Vijapur. The sells are brisk and profit is good compare to the bamboo products.  The couple is really working hard to change its fate. Their elder son and his wife look after the rest of their children who are studying in Ludra village. 

The Vicharta Samudaay Samarthan Manch – VSSM team has also eased out Hameerbhai's tension of paying instalments. Earlier Hameerbhai had to come all the way to Diyodar to pay his instalment but Naranbhai worked out an option that he either directly deposits the amount in VSSM account which he refused as it wasn’t a comfortable option for him or every month  he gives the amount to VSSM’s Vijapur team member Tohid, the option that has worked out fine.

ગુજરાતમાં વિચરતી જાતિની યાદીમાં સરકારે ૨૮ જાતિઓનો સમાવેશ કર્યો છે. આ દરેક જાતિઓના પરંપરાગત વ્યવસાય જુદા જુદા.. જેમ કે કાંગસિયા માથું ઓળવાની કાંસકી બનાવીને વેચે, ઘંટિયા ઘંટી ટાંકવાનું અને વેચવાનું કરે, ઓડ માટીના ઘર બનાવવાનું કામ કરે, વાંસફોડા વાંસમાંથી સુડલા-ટોપલા બનાવે. નટ અંગ કસરતના ખેલ કરે.. દરેકે દરેકે જાતિઓની આવી અલગ અલગ વિશેષતા અને એના આધારે તેઓ નભે. પણ બદલાતી સમાજ વ્યવસ્થામાં આ વ્યવસાયો પડી ભાંગ્યા છે. આવામાં નવા વ્યવસાય તરફ એમને વાળવા અત્યંત આવશ્યક છે. નવા વ્યવસાયોની તાલીમની સાથે સાથે જરૂરિયાત પ્રમાણે વગર વ્યાજની લોન નવા વ્યવસાય માટે આ પરિવારોને મળે એ દીશામાં vssm પ્રયત્નશીલ છે. જે અંતર્ગત દિયોદર તાલુકાના લુદ્રાગામમાં રહેતાં હમીરભાઈ વાંસફોડાવાદીને લોન આપવામાં આવી.

હમીરભાઈ લુદ્રાગામની સરકારી પડતર જગ્યામાં રહે. પરંપરાગત વ્યવસાય વાંસમાંથી સુડલા અને ટોપલા બનાવવાનો કરે પણ એમાં ખાસ મળતર મળે નહિ. વાંસ મોંઘો થઇ રહ્યો છે.. પણ બીજો વ્યવસાય કરવા પૈસા નહિ. એટલે ના છૂટકે જે મળે એનાથી સંતોષ મેળવીને આ વ્યવસાય કર્યા કરે. 

દિયોદર તાલુકામાં વિચરતા પરીવારો સાથે આપણે જે કામ કરીએ છીએ એનાથી હમીરભાઈ પરિચિત. એમનું પોતાનું અંત્યોદય રેશનકાર્ડ અને એમનું BPL યાદીમાં નામ આવે એ માટે આપણે જ પ્રયત્ન કરેલો અને એ સફળ પણ રહ્યો. આપણે કેટલાક પરિવારોને સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય માટે લોન આપેલી એ

હમીરભાઈ જાણે. પોતાને પ્લાસ્ટીકના તબકડા, બેસવા માટેના પાટલા, ડોલ, ટબ વગેરે વેચવાનો વ્યવસાય કરવાનું મન. પણ પાસે બચત નહિ એટલે કરી શકે નહિ. આ અંગે vssm પાસેથી લોનની માંગણી કરી. રૂ.૩૦,૦૦૦ આપણે આપ્યા અને બીજા રૂ.૧૫,૦૦૦ એમણે એમનાં મિત્ર પાસેથી લીધા અને ફોટોમાં દેખાય છે એ સામાન લાવ્યા અને વેચવા માટે પતિ –પત્ની બન્ને દિયોદર આસપાસમાં ફરવા માંડ્યા. ધંધો સારો ચાલવા માંડ્યો.. વધારે સામાન ભેગો કરી હિંમતનગર અને વિજાપુર તરફ નીકળી ગયા. હાલમાં પણ એ વિજાપુર આસપાસના વિસ્તારમાં જ ધંધા અર્થે વિચરણ કરે છે. એમનો વ્યવસાય પણ સારો ચાલે છે. વાંસ કામમાં મળતર ખુબ જ ઓછું હતું પણ નવા વ્યવસાયમાં સારું મળે છે જેનો એમને સંતોષ છે. 

હમીરભાઈ સતત વિચરતા રહે આવામાં vssmની લોનની માસીક હપ્તાની રકમ ચુકવવાની થઈ એટલે છેક દિયોદર પરત ગયા અને  રૂ.૨૦૦૦ હપ્તા પેટે આપ્યા. ધંધા વિષે વધારે પૂછતાં નારણને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો. કે હમીરભાઈ ફક્ત હપ્તો આપવા છેક વિજાપુરથી દિયોદર આવ્યા છે. એણે હમીરભાઈને કહ્યું, લોનની રકમ આપવા તમારે છેક અહિયાં આવવું એના કરતા તમે vssmના બેંકના ખાતામાં જમા કરાવી દો તો? વિગતો હું આપું. પણ હમીરભાઈએ ના પાડી , ‘એ મને ના ફાવે’ તે પછી vssmના વિજાપુરના કાર્યકર તોહીદ સાથે નારણે એમની વાત કરાવી અને હવેથી હપ્તાની રકમ તોહીદભાઈને આપવાનું ગોઠવી આપ્યું.. પતિ-પત્ની બન્ને ખુબ મહેનત કરે છે બાળકો લુદ્રાગામમાં જ રહીને ભણે છે મોટો દીકરો અને એની પત્ની ઘરનો કારભાર સંભાળે છે..
