Dafer Jumabhai of Vijapur town earns his living through brokering used cars. However, Vijapur being a small town finding cars for sale on a continuous basis is not possible for him. Some months are good while others are ss with no work at all. In such times Jumabhai needs to take loan from others to keep his kitchen fires burning. At times he would ask for money from Tohid as well. Tohid is VSSM team member and knows the conditions under which Jumabhai sustains self and family. Tohid teaches the children staying in the Vijapur’s Dafer settlement. He is instrumental in resolving the issues the Dafer community faces in the settlement.
Jumabhai, requires to take loan frequently but remians very punctual in returning the borrowed money. The moment he would’ve cash on hand the first thing he did was to pay off the debt. Tohid was very much aware of this honesty and felt the need to settle Jumabhai by providing him better options to earn living. Thohid asked him, ‘what else can you do apart from brokering?’
Jumabhai expressed the desire to see up a small provision store in the settlement but that required some capital which he did not have. Thad asked him to manage to buy a small kiosk and VSSM would support for purchase of goods for selling. VSSM provided loan of Rs. 10,000 from which Jumabhai purchased stuff required for household usage, things that kids like and spent some on repair of the kiosk.
The kiosk started functioning but people would not buy from him in which jealousy of fellow community men played a role too. Tohid had a word with the community as a result of which they began buying stuff from him. Jumabhai now makes a profit of around Rs. 4000/-. He has been adding new stuff to his selling list gradually. He dreams of setting a big grocery store in Vijapur…..we wish him all the best for the same!!!

ડફેર જુમાભાઈ જૂની ગાડીઓની દલાલી કરે. પણ વિજાપુર જેવા નાના શહેરમાં ગાડીની દલાલીનું કામ કાયમ ના મળે ક્યારેક તો આખો મહિનો કામ વગર નીકળી જાય. સ્થાઈ આવક નહીં. જયારે પૈસા ન હોય ત્યારે વસાહતમાંથી કોઈ પાસેથી પૈસા ઉછીના લે અને ઘર ચાલે. જુમાભાઈની આ સ્થિતિ અંગે vssmના કાર્યકર તોહીદને ખ્યાલ. તોહીદ આ વસાહતમાં રહેતાં બાળકોને ભણાવવાનું કામ કરે સાથે સાથે ડફેર પરિવારોના પ્રશ્નો ઉકેલવામાં પણ મદદરૂપ થાય . ક્યારેક જુમાભાઈ તોહીદ પાસેથી પણ ઉછીના પૈસા લઇ જાય. જુમાભાઈ આમ ખુબ જવાબદાર વ્યક્તિ. પોતાની પાસે પૈસાની સગવડ થાય એટલે સૌથી પહેલાં ઉછીના લીધેલાં પૈસા લેણદારોને ચૂકવી દે. જુમાભાઈનો લેણદારો સાથેનો વ્યવહાર તોહીદ ખુબ નજીકથી જુએ. એણે જુમાભાઈને સરખો કામ ધંધો શોધી કામે લગાડવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.
જુમાભાઈ વાહનોની દલાલીની સાથે સાથે બીજું શું કામ કરી શકો એ વિષે તોહીદે વાત એમની સાથે વાત કરી. જુમાભાઈએ ‘વસાહતમાં પરચુરણ વસ્તુ માટે ગલ્લો/નાની દુકાન કરી શકાય પણ એ માટે આર્થિક સગવડ જોઈએ.’ એમ કહ્યું. તોહીદે એમને દુકાન માટેના કેબીનની વ્યવસ્થા કરવાં કહ્યું અને સમાન ભરવા vssm લોન આપશે એવી ખાત્રી આપી. જુમાભાઈએ કેબીનની વ્યવસ્થા કરી અને vssmએ એમને રૂ.૧૦,૦૦૦ની લોન આપીએ જેમાંથી એમણે બાળકોને ગમે એવી ખાવાની વસ્તુ તો કેટલીક ઘર વપરાશની ચીજો રાખવાનું શરુ કર્યું. થોડા પૈસા કેબીન રીપેર કરવામાં પણ નાખ્યા.
આમ ગલ્લો-દુકાન શરુ થઇ પણ શરૂઆતમાં ખરીદાર ના મળે. વસાહતના લોકો ઈર્ષાના કારણે પણ જુમાભાઈ પાસેથી વસ્તુ ખરીદે નહિ. પણ તોહીદની સમજાવટથી વસાહતના લોકો, બાળકો જુમાભાઈ પાસેથી સમાન ખરીદતાં થયાં. હવે જુમાભાઈને મહીને ખર્ચ કાઢતાં ૪૦૦૦ની આવક થવાં લાગી છે. દર મહીને એ પોતના ગલ્લામાં/નાની દુકાનમાં નવી વસ્તુઓનો ઉમેરો પણ કરતાં જાય છે. જુમાભાઈની ઈચ્છા કરિયાણાની મોટી દુકાન વિજાપુર બજારમાં કરવાની છે. એમનું સ્વપ્ન ઝડપથી પૂરું થાય એવી અભ્યર્થના..
