She was born in extreme poverty and later survived under extreme poverty too but she is determined not allow her children to inherit such poverty. Sonalben Bajaniya, a very strong willed and wise lady and her husband Dineshbhai Bajaniya earned living working as labourers and survived on the daily wage they earned. Soon after her marriage she began working and supporting her husband in earning for the family. She managed the earning well and planned the finances of the family. A trait that is almost non existent in the nomadic communities. With the birth of their first child she expressed her desire of moving from the shanty they were living in to a better and cleaner neighbourhood and a better house. She was not willing to raise her child in unhygienic environment. The family and husband were against it as the rentals of such houses are quite high something that the family can absolutely not afford also what was the need as all of the community live under such conditions!!. But Sonalben remained persistent in her wish and soon the family moved to a better and cleaner place. In Deesa town the rentals for ever mediocre homes were too much to afford. Sonalben and Dineshbhai paid Rs. 2000 for their dwelling which was too high for the family to afford. But since Sonalben had promised herself to pull the family out of poverty she took the plunge.
A few months back L. P. Savaninagar, an unbar settlement for the Nomadic and De-notified communities supported by government and VSSM came into existence in Nava Deesa. In this settlement Sonalben and Dineshbhai also had their house built. The only concern she had when the houses in the settlement were under construction was to move into it as soon as possible as paying the rent was proving to be a challenge. The moment the settlement was completed Sonalben’s family was the first to move in. She wanted to venture out for work but the growing children required her presence at home. She wanted to educate her children well and so need the income to afford it. Her quest was to begin some work from home!! But what could that be????
The Balghar by VSSM functioned just opposite her home in the settlement, whenever possible she volunteered in assisting Baldost Mahesh in organising the daily the activities of the Balghar. One day she shared her concern of finding some work at home with Mahesh.
It has been a general practice of starting a small grocery kiosk in the vicinity of the new settlement. Any resident of the settlement willing to start a business is given the necessary support to begin a kiosk. The L.P. Savlani settlement also had similar kiosk but for some reason the person running it decided to wind up the kiosk. The residents had to walk a distance even for purchasing one small item. Mahesh suggested that Sonalben begin selling small stuff of daily need from her house. Sonalben stocked up the goods from he savings she had. People requested her to start selling milk, but this would require a refrigerator. Sonalben requested VSSM to support the purchase of a refrigerator. VSSM provided a loan of Rs. 10,000 for the same. Now with the refrigerator she stocks up milk and the business is doing well and income is good. Being at home she also helps in the activities of the Balghar as well.
Everytime I go to Deesa settlement I have to have tea by Sonalben. ‘I now have a house because of VSSM and the government, a house of my own saves me a monthly Rs. 2000 and with your support the business is also doing well. How can I thank you enough, I don’t have words to express my gratitude for all that you have done for me,’ says a rather emotional Sonalben, a gutsy lady who is willing to swim against the tide for the betterment of her family……..
સોનલબહેનના મનોબળને સો સલામ..
સોનલબહેન બજાણિયા..અને પતિ દિનેશભાઈ બજાણિયા છૂટક મજૂરી કરે. સોનલબહેન ખુબ ગરીબ સ્થિતિમાં મોટા થયા. પણ પોતાનાં બાળકોને વારસામાં ગરીબી નથી આપવી એવો નિશ્ચય. એટલે લગ્ન પછી તુરત દિનેશભાઈને આર્થિક રીતે મદદરૂપ થવાય એટલે મજૂરી કરવા લાગ્યા. પૈસાનું સરખું આયોજન કરે. મોટાભાગે વિચરતી જાતિમાં આ આયોજન કરનારા ખુબ ઓછા મળે. તેમના ઘરે પહેલા બાળકનો જન્મ થયો એટલે નક્કી કર્યું બાળક સાથે આ રીતે ઝુપડામાં, અસ્વચ્છ વાતાવરણમાં નથી રહેવું. ભાડેથી ઘર લેવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો.. પતિ અને પરિવારે સમજાવ્યા કે ભાડામાં કેટલા બધા પૈસા જાય અને આપણે વળી એવી શી જરૂર છે પણ એમનું મન મક્ક હતું. આખરે ભાડાના ઘરમાં રહેવાનું શરુ કર્યું. ડીસા શહેરમાં પ્રમાણમાં ઠીક જગ્યા પર મહીને રૂ.૨૦૦૦ ભાડું. ખુબ મોટી રકમ પણ થઇ રહેશે એવી શ્રદ્ધા. આ દરિદ્રતામાંથી બહાર આવવા માનસિક રીતે એમણે તૈયારી કરી જ લીધેલી.
નવા ડીસામાં સરકાર અને vssmની મદદથી L .P સવાણી નગરનું નિર્માણ થયું. એમાં એમનું પણ ઘર બન્યું. ઘર બનતું હતું એ વખતે રોજ એક જ વાત પૂછે ઘર ક્યારે પૂરું થશે. ઓગસ્ટ-૨૦૧૪માં વસાહત બની ગઈ. એ પહેલાં રહેવાં આવ્યાં. એમના બાળકો મોટા થતાં જતા હતાં. માં તરીકે બાળકોના ઉછેર માટે પણ એમની ઘરમાં હાજરી હોવી એમને જરૂરી લાગે. પણ કામ તો કરવું પડે આર્થિક જરૂરિયાત અને બાળકોને સારું શિક્ષણ આપવા આ જરૂરી હતું. ઘરે રહીને કંઇક કામ થાય તો તે કરવાની એમના મનમાં ચાહના પણ શું કરવું?
એમના ઘરની સામે જ vssm આ વસાહતના બાળકો માટે બાલઘર ચલાવે. બાલદોસ્ત મહેશને એ બાળકો માટેની તમામ વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવવામાં મદદ કરે. એમણે મહેશને પોતાનાં મનની મુંઝવણ કહી.
વિચરતી જાતિની વસાહતોમાં પરચુરણ સામાન (કરીયાણું કે અન્ય ઘર વખરીનો સામાન) વેચવા માટે નાની દુકાન કે ગલ્લો વસાહત બહારના જ કોઈ વ્યક્તિ કરે. આપણી આ વસાહતમાં પણ એવી વ્યવસ્થા થઇ ગઈ હતી પણ થોડા સમયમાં જ જેમણે દુકાન કરી હતી એમણે કોઈક કારણસર દુકાન બંધ કરી દીધી. વસાહતના લોકો ખુબ હાલાકી વેઠી રહ્યા હતાં. મહેશે સોનલબહેનને પોતાનાં ઘરમાં જ બાળકો માટેનો સમાન અને અન્ય પરચૂરણ વસ્તુ કે જેની લોકોને રોજે રોજ જરૂર પડે છે એ વેચવા માટેની વ્યવસ્થા માટે કહ્યું. સોનલબહેને પોતાની બચતમાંથી એ કર્યું. હવે વસાહતમાંથી દૂધ રાખવાની વિનંતી પણ આવી. જેના માટે સોનલબહેનને ફ્રીજ જોઈતું હતું. એમણે એ માટે vssm મદદરૂપ થઇ શકે એવી વાત કરી. આપણે એમને રૂ.૧૦,૦૦૦ની લોન આપી. સોનલબેન એમાંથી ફીજ અને થોડો સામાન લાવ્યાં. એમની આવક ખુબ સારી થાય છે. એ પોતાના બાળકોની સાથે સાથે વસાહતના બાળકોને પણ ભણાવવામાં મદદરૂપ થાય છે.
ડીસા – વસાહતમાં જઉં ત્યારે સોનલબહેન ખુબ સરસ ચા બનાવીને અચૂક પિવડાવે. એમની સાથેની વાતમાં એમણે સાહજિક રીતે જ કહ્યું, ‘સંસ્થા અને સરકારના પ્રતાપે મારું પોતાનું ઘર થયું. મારા મહિનાના રૂ.2,૦૦૦ બચ્યાં. અને ઘરે બેઠા આ સરસ ધંધો ગોઠવી આપવામાં પણ તમે સહાય કરી. મને તમે જે સુખ આપ્યું છે એની વાત માટે મારી પાસે શબ્દો નથી.’ એ લાગણીવશ થઇ ગયા. ફોટોમાં સોનલબેન ઘરમાં ચાલતી એમની દુકાન સાથે .
