Begging of living is not an option anymore for these families...

Bhairavbhai Bharthari, a resident of Diyodar requested VSSM to provide him some startup capital for him to start his venture of selling clothes. ‘Whenever we went to sing lullabies to the new born we were gifted were gifted lot of new clothes. My wife Radha would go to the market and sell off the gifts. The money earned helped us in running the household. With the money you’ll give we shall buy some old  and new clothes from the city and sell them in the neighbouring villages,” said Bhairavbhai. 

“But you have never done this kind of work of selling clothes, it was something your wife did,  will you be able to do it??” we inquired. 

“I and my wife shall be doing the selling together, if my wife is able to manage it better she will continue doing it I shall find some other business. One thing is for sure though, I wish to work hard and earn living. I do not wish to beg and earn my living. 

The Bharthari families earn their living by playing the ektara/Ravanhatta, these families are hosted by those families that have a new born in the house. The Bharthari sing lullabies and bless the newborn!! But with changing times barring few exceptions hardly anyone calls Bharthari families to welcome their newborns, instead they ask these men to wo

rk hard and earn living. This has made the Bharthari each for livelihood options! They are prepared to work hard and make decent living.

‘હવે ભીખ નથી માંગવી’

ભરથરી પરિવારો રાવણહથ્થો વગાડી યાચવાનું કામ કરે. પહેલાંના સમયમાં ગામમાં નિયમિત ભરથરી પરિવારો આવે અને જે પરિવારમાં બાળકનો જન્મ થયો હોય ત્યાં જઈને હાલરડું ગાય. કેટલાક પરિવારો તો સામેથી હાલરડું ગવડાવવા ભરથરીને નિમંત્રણ આપે. તે પછી આ પરિવાર ખુશ થઈને સાડી, અનાજ અને પૈસા આપે. આ બધું અત્યાર સુધી ચાલતું, હજુ પણ ક્યાંક ચાલે છે પણ મોટાભાગે હવે આ પરિવારોને કોઈ બોલાવતું નથી, ‘મહેનત કરો માંગવાનું બંધ કરો એવું સુચન કરે’...એટલે ભરથરી પરિવારોએ પણ નવા વ્યવસાય શોધવાનું શરુ કરી દીધું છે.

દિયોદરમાં રહેતા ભેરવભાઈ ભરથરીએ vssm પાસે કાપડની ફેરી કરવા રૂ.૧૦,૦૦૦ની લોનની માંગણી કરી. એમણે કહ્યું, ‘જયારે અમેં હાલરડાં ગાવા માટે જતા ત્યારે લોકો અમને સાડી અને જુના કપડાં આપતા આ કપડાં મારી વહુ રાધા ગામડાંમાં જઈને વેચતી અને અમારું ચાલતું. તમે લોન આપો તો હું એમાંથી અમદાવાદ જઈને જુના કપડાં લઇ આવું અને એની ફેરી કરું.’ આપણે કહ્યું, ‘કપડાં વેચવાનું તમે તો કર્યું જ નથી, એતો તમારાં પત્ની કરતાં, તો પછી તમે કરી શકશો...’ એમણે કહ્યું, ‘હું અને મારી પત્ની બંને સાથે જઈશું. મારી પત્ની સારી રીતે વેપાર કરવા માંડશે તો હું બીજો વ્યવસાય શોધી લઈશ. પણ હવે મહેનત કરીને જીવવું છે એ નક્કી. હવે માંગવું નથી’

ભેરવભાઈની આ શ્રદ્ધાને ઈશ્વર મદદ કરે અને આર્થિકસદ્ધરતા આપે એવી અભ્યર્થના...
