Babubhai Malabhai Bajaniya’s home is located in the Dudosan village of Banaskantha, but he

had to fight for restoring his livelihood, when he was doing shared cropping and he also

couldn’t get any kind of employment opportunity in the village. So he spent the next five years

living in a shanty, staying on a farm with his wife and children.

“Ma’am, our kids were growing up and so living in the shanty was not an option, so leaving everything there I came back to the village. I tried to take up agriculture as a full-time job but the income was not enough to sustain our livelihood. So I tried to start with our age old family business of cutlery, but we couldn’t afford it. In 2011, I met Shankarbhai and Mohanbhai during a religious event held by Moraribapu for the Nomadic De-Notified tribes, where I came to know that Shankarbhai and Mohanbhai work for VSSM, Which offers interest free loans to NT-DNT Communities. I talked to shankarbhai  received a loan of Rs. 10,000/- as an opportunity to start our business. After this I started our business, but with a bicycle I could only cover a limited distance and hence I thought of buying a bike, so while saving from daily income and borrowing 10,000/- I bought a bike by giving a down payment. The distance that could never be covered on foot was now easily covered and I could sell much more goods. Now, I lacked the capital for buying new stock and hence the organization, understanding my necessity, VSSM gave me a loan of another 20,000/-, from

which I used 5,000/- to pay an installment and the other 15,000/- was used to buy stock. Now I

am successfully doing business.”

Now, Babubhai is financially independent to pay an amount of Rs. 2050/- as an installment for

the bike and Rs. 2000/- to the organization. He also gives a donation of Rs.100/- to the organization every month. His business is going very well. Two of his girls are married and his son is getting further education. His second son, after completing the eighth grade, has left school. He wants all his children to learn the business of cutlery so that they can dodge any financial difficulty.

Expressing his gratitude to the organization Babubhai says, “Ma’am, only because of VSSM I

can earn livelihood. If VSSM would not have helped us then a lot of people like me would

have been living on daily wages, with no savings or safety and never able to think about their children’s future.”

“ બેન, લોન મળી તે પહેલા ખેતી ભાગે રાખતો, અમે ત્યાં જ ઝુપડું બાંધી પડી રહેતા, લોન મળી તો આજે કટલરીનો ધંધો કરતો થઇ ગયો. ”

બનાસકાંઠાના સૂઈગામ તાલુકાનું દુદોસણ ગામ. બાબુભાઈ માલાભાઈ બજાણીયાનું ગામમાં પોતાનું ઘર ખરું. તેમને ખેતી કરતા આવડે પણ ભાગે ખેતી રાખે તો પૈસાયે ઓછા મળે અને ગામમાં એટલું કામ પણ ના મળે. તેથી તેઓ પાંચેક વર્ષ તો વિસનગર રહ્યા. ઝુપડું બાંધી બાળકો સાથે વાડીમાં જ પડ્યા રહે. બાબુભાઈ કહે,

“ બેન, બાળકો હવે મોટા થઇ રહ્યા હતા. આમ ખેતરમાં પડ્યા રહીએ તો કેમ ચાલે? તેથી બધું સમેટી ગામડે રહેવા આવતો રહ્યો. થોડાક દહાડા ખેતી ભાગે રાખી પણ તેમાં ઘરનું પૂરું થતું નહિ. તેથી અમારો વારસાગત ધંધો કરવાનું વિચાર્યું. અમારા બાપદાદા પણ કટલરીનો સામાન ગામેગામ જઈ વેચતા. હું પણ આ કટલરીનો ધંધો કરવા માંગતો પણ પૈસાના અભાવે કરી શકતો નહીં. ૨૦૧૧માં જ્યારે વિચરતી વિમુક્ત જાતિ માટે મોરારિબાપુ દ્વારા કથા કરવામાં આવી ત્યારથી હું શંકરભાઈ અને મોહનભાઈ (VSSMના કાર્યકર) ને ઓળખું છું. આ સંસ્થા અમારા જેવા વિચરતી જાતિના લોકોને વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપે છે એવી મને જાણ હતી. શંકરભાઇને વાત કરતા મને રૂપિયા ૧૦,૦૦૦/-ની પહેલી લોન મને સંસ્થા તરફથી આપવામાં આવી. લોન મળતા કટલરીનો સામાન લાવી ધંધો શરું કર્યો. પહેલા સાઈકલ લઇ ધંધો કરવા જતો. જેમાં એક થી બે ગામ જ ધંધો કરી શકતો. તેથી વિચાર્યું કે જો બાઈક લઇ લઉં તો વધું ગામ ફરી શકું. તેથી સંસ્થાએ આપેલ લોનની સાથે સાથે થોડી થોડી બચત કરતો ગયો. રૂપિયા ૧૦,૦૦૦/- ભેગા થતા બીજા રૂપિયા ૧૦,૦૦૦/- ઉછીના લઇ લીધા. રૂપિયા ૨૦,૦૦૦/- ડાઉનપેમેન્ટ ભરી બાઈક લઇ લીધું. હવે હું બાઈકમાં કટલરીના સામાનનો ધંધો કરવા લાગ્યો. બાઈકમાં ૫૦ કિલોમીટર સુધીના ગામમાં જઈ ધંધો થઇ શકતો હતો. પરંતુ પૈસાના અભાવે હું વધું કટલરીનો સામાન લાવી ધંધો કરી શકતો નહિ. સંસ્થામાંથી મને બીજીવાર લોન મળે તો હું સારી રીતે

ધંધો કરી શકું તેમ હતું તેથી મેં ફરીથી લોન માટે વાત કરી. સંસ્થાએ મારી પરિસ્થિતિ સમજી મને બીજીવાર રૂપિયા ૨૦,૦૦૦/-ની લોન આપી. લોન મળતા સૌથી પહેલા રૂપિયા ૫૦૦૦/-નું દેવું હતું તે પૂરું કર્યું અને બાકીના રૂપિયા ૧૫,૦૦૦/-નો કટલરીનો સામાન લાવી ધંધો શરું કર્યો.”

આજે બાબુભાઈ મહિને રૂપિયા ૨૦૫૦/- બાઈકનો હપ્તો અને રૂપિયા ૨૦૦૦/- સંસ્થામાંથી લીધેલી લોનના હપ્તા ભરે છે. તે સિવાય તેઓ દર મહિને હપ્તાની સાથે સાથે સંસ્થાને રૂપિયા ૧૦૦/-નું ધર્માંદુ પણ આપે છે. હવે તેમના ઘરનું ગુજરાન પણ સારી રીતે ચાલી જાય છે. તેમને ચાર બાળકો છે. તેમાં બે છોકરીઓ અને એક છોકરાના લગ્ન થઇ ગયેલ છે. મોટો છોકરો હાલ સુરતમાં છે. તે હીરા ઘસવાનું કામ શીખી ગયો છે. હવે બે ત્રણ મહિના પછી તે પણ કામે લાગી જશે. નાનો છોકરો મોટા છોકરાની જેમ જ આઠ ધોરણ ભણી ભણવાનું છોડી દીધેલ છે. બાબુભાઈની ઈચ્છે છે કે તેમનો દીકરો પણ કટલરીનો ધંધો શીખે. જેથી ભવિષ્યમાં કોઈ મુશ્કેલી ના થાય. બાબુભાઈ કહે,

 “બેન, સંસ્થા છે તો અમારો આધાર છે. સંસ્થા ના હોત તો અમારા જેવા કેટલાય રખડી પડત. રોજનું લાવીને રોજ ખાતા હોત અને પોતાના બાળકોના ભવિષ્ય માટે ક્યારેય ના વિચારી શકત.
