The plight of daily wage earners is extremely pathetic in our country, providing absolutely no security against family emergencies, medical emergencies etc. The day you don’t work you hardly are left with money to feed the family. The daily income isn’t enough to enable savings for the rainy day…which believe us are many when they are engaged in extremely labour intensive jobs.
The case of Rameshbhai Nat goes on to prove just that. ..
Rameshbhai Nat from Deesa in Banaskantha earned his living by performing acrobatic acts on the road side.Sometimes he got diagnosed with TB. The illness soon began taking toll on him. The family’s sole earning member in bad health meant difficulties for the family as well. The responsibility of keeping the kitchen fires burning, taking Rameshbhai to hospital, taking care of family fell on Rameshbhai’s wife. After a while she also felt the exhaustion go the increased work load.
VSSM knew Rameshbhai well but some how got to know about his condition after a while. He needed immediate medical attention. We referred him to Civil hospital but as the treatment there diid not suit Rameshbhai he was hesitant to go to Civil hospital. Hence, we began his treatment with a private clinic and intake of nutritious food was ensured. We enrolled his kids with the Doliya hostel. Gradually Rameshbhai recovered from his illness and his health improved.
One day we received a call from Rameshbhai, “ Ben, the articles required by me to carry out acrobatic acts are with some one else. If i bring it on rent I would be spending more than earning but, if I invest in purchasing my own articles I would be earning and saving more. Right now I do not have that kind of money to invest, if VSSM loans me Rs. 10,000 I can buy my own stuff and pay the money back on regular instalments. We got his point and gave him a loan of Rs. 10,000. With the amount he has purchased the required items.
Rameshbhai is happy with his independent venture while his kids are doing well in Doliya hostel..
vssm માંથી લોન લઈને નટ રમેશભાઈએ સ્વતંત્ર કામ શરુ કર્યું..
બનાસકાંઠાના ડીસામાં રહેતાં રમેશભાઈ નટ અંગ કસરતના ખેલ કરીને પરિવારનું પાલન પોષણ કરે. વર્ષોથી ખેલ કરતા રમેશભાઈને TBની બીમારી લાગુ પડી.. શરીર સાવ નંખાઈ ગયું.. પરિવાર મોટો અને કમાવવાવાળા જ બીમાર થઇ ગયા. રમેશભાઈના પત્ની મજૂરી કરે પણ રમેશભાઈ ને દવાખાને લઇ જવાનું અને ઘરનું બધું કામ પણ કરવાનું. માનસિક રીતે એ પણ થાકી ગયા હતાં. આ પરિવાર સાથે આમ તો vssm તરીકે અમારો નાતો ઘણો ઘાઢ પણ રમેશભાઈની આ હાલત વિષે થોડી મોડેથી ખબર પડી.
રમેશભાઈને તત્કાલ સારવારની જરૂર હતી. સિવિલમાં મફત દવા થાય પણ એ દવા લીધા પછી રમેશભાઈના કહેવા પ્રમાણે વધારે ખરાબ હાલત થાય છે એટલે એ દવા લે નહિ. આખરે ખાનગી દવાખાનામાં અમે દવા શરુ કરાવી અને સાથે સાથે પોષણ યુકત આહાર આપવાનું શરુ કર્યું. બાળકોને vssm સંચાલિત ડોળીયા હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણવા દાખલ કર્યા. રમેશભાઈ ધીમે ધીમે સજા થવા માંડ્યા. જ્યાં પહેલાં હાડકા દેખાવા માંડ્યા હતા એ તબિયત પણ હવે સારી થઇ.
એક દિવસ રમેશભાઈનો સામેથી ફોન આવ્યો એમણે કહ્યું, ‘બહેન મારો ખેલ કરવાનો સામાન વાંસ અને દોરડાં મારી પાસે નથી એટલે મારે કોઈની ટુકડીમાં ખેલ કરવા જવું પડે એટલે મને ઓછા પૈસા મળે. પણ જો હું મારો પોતાનો ખેલ કરવાનો સમાન વસાવું તો મને ઘણો ફાયદો થાય. હાલમાં મારી પાસે એવી કોઈ મૂડી નથી જેનું હું રોકાણ કરી શકું. vssm મને રૂ.૧૦,૦૦૦ ની લોન આપે તો હું મહીને ૧,૦૦૦ નો હપ્તો ભરીશ પણ એમ કરતાં મારો પોતાનો સમાન થઇ જશે અને મારું જીવન સુધરી જશે.’ રમેશભાઈની વાત સાંભળ્યા પછી આપણે એમને રૂ.૧૦,૦૦૦ ની લોન આપી જેમાંથી એ ખેલ કરવાનો નવો સમાન લાવ્યા જે ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે.
રમેશભાઈ પોતાનો સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય થતાં ઘણા ખુશ છે. એમના બાળકો પણ ડોળીયાગામમાં ચાલતી આપણી હોસ્ત્લેમાં સરસ ભણી રહ્યા છે.
