Suresh from the fulvadi community said, "I didn’t want to be a laborer in the fields, nor did I want to work as a laborer for all twelve months. If you give me a loan, I can get a rickshaw."

"Do you want to drive a rickshaw?"

"Well, yes."

Suresh from the fulvadi community mentioned this. In Kakar, BanasKantha, there are about 300 households of flower sellers. This community has traditionally performed snake dances, but that practice has now ceased. The entire community has turned to agricultural labor, but consistent work in farming is not available for twelve months.

When labor is not available, these families move around the villages asking for grains. They say they do not refuse when asked. The elders demand and receive assistance, but some from the new generation find begging distasteful. Suresh is somewhat educated but not extensively. He and others like him wish to work hard to earn a living but lack education, making it difficult to find other opportunities.

Suresh was the first to discuss taking a loan within the community. We provided him with 30,000 rupees, which he used to buy an old rickshaw. He paid back the installments regularly. Later, he talked about acquiring a new rickshaw. We provided a substantial amount for this. For instance, he needed to secure it and we did not fear the money being misused within the flower seller community. Hence, we gave him two lakh rupees.

Suresh now runs his business well with the new rickshaw. He pays a monthly installment of 17,500 rupees. Apart from the amount we provided, he has also taken a small amount from other sources. Suresh says, "I never thought I would be able to pay such a high installment. Now I have the ability to pay 17,500 rupees monthly."

We have provided loans to more than 200 families like Suresh and our worker Ishwarbhai is overseeing the management of these loans. It is an honor to work with dedicated workers like him.

For families like Suresh's, we run the Self-Reliance Program. The Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation and VSSM together have provided loans to over 8,200 families to start their own independent businesses like Suresh.

Our KRSF founder Pratulbhai Shroff's dream is to enable another 2,500 families to start independent businesses this year. With visionary leaders like him, our team is motivated and we will achieve this goal.

ફુલવાદીઓ સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા થયા...

'માર જમોના પરમોણે હેડવું હ્. મોગવાનું મન પસંદ નહીં અન ખેતીમોં બારે મહિના મજૂરી હેડ નહીં. મન તમે લોન આલો તો માર રીક્ષા લાબ્બી હ્.'

'રીક્ષા ચલાવવાનું ફાવે?'

'એ તો હીખી જયે'

ફુલવાદી સમુદાયના સુરેશે આ કહ્યું.  બનાસકાંઠાના કાકરમાં એમના 300 ઘર. સાપના ખેલ બતાવવાનું આ સમુદાયની પેઢીઓએ કર્યુંં. પણ એ બધુ હવે બંધ થયું. ખેત મજૂરી તરફ આખો સમાજ વળ્યો પણ આપણે ત્યાં ખેતીમાં બારે મહિના મજૂરી ન મળે.

મજૂરી ન મળે ત્યારે ગામોમાં દાણા માંગવા આ પરિવારો ફરે. એ કહે, માંગવામાં અમને મણા નહીં. 

વડિલો હક કરી માંગી લે. પણ નવી પેઢીમાંથી કેટલાકને માંગવું અરુચીકર લાગે. સુરેશ થોડું ભણ્યો પણ ખરો. એ અને એના જેવા યુવાનો મહેનત કરીને રોટલો રળવા ઈચ્છે પણ ભણ્યા નહીં એટલે બીજુ કશું ફાવે નહીં.

લોન લેવાની વાત સુરેશે આખા સમાજમાં પહેલીવાર કરી. અમે 30,000 આપ્યા એમાંથી એ જુની રીક્ષા લાવ્યો. હપ્તા પણ  નિયમીત ભર્યા. એ પછી એણે નવી રીક્ષા લેવાની વાત કરી. અમે એ માટે મોટી રકમ આપી. ઉ.દા. બેસાડવાનું હતું અને ફુલવાદી સમુદાયમાં પૈસા ખોટા થવાનો અમને ભય નહીં. માટે બે લાખ આપ્યા. 

નવી રીક્ષામાં સુરેશ સરસ ધંધો કરે. મહિને 17,500નો હપ્તો ભરે છે. અમારી સિવાય નાનકડી રકમ એણે અન્ય જગ્યાએથી પણ લીધી.

સુરેશ કહે, '17500નો હપ્તો ભરી શકુ એવી ક્ષમતા થઈ. મે ક્યારેય વિચાર્યું નહોતું કે આટલા કમાઈશ..'

સુરેશ જેવા 200 થી વધારે પરિવારોને લોન આપી તેની દેખરેખનું કામ અમારા કાર્યકર ઈશ્વરભાઈ બરાબર કરે. તેમના જેવા સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકર સાથે હોવાનું ગૌરવ.

સુરેશ જેવા પરિવારો માટે જ અમે સ્વાવલંબન કાર્યક્રમ ચલાવીએ. ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન અને VSSM એ સાથે મળીને 8200 ઉપરાંત પરિવારોને સુરેશની જેમ સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરવા લોન આપી.

અમારા KRSF ના સ્થાપક પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફનું સ્વપ્ન આ વર્ષે બીજા 2500 પરિવારોને સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા કરવાનું..

એમના જેવા સ્વપ્ન દૃષ્ટા સાથે હોય પછી ટીમે દોડવાનું છે ને એ અમે કરીશું...

This was said smilingly by Geetaben, who runs her small grocery store at Mahisagar's Jetpur.

The families of  Bajaniya stay in bigger houses. Geetaben believes that even if she has a small shop , she can have good business there. Our relationship with all these families is for years. Vinodbhai and Kantaben, our associates from Mahisagar, have always desired & dreamt of a better life for these families. They always thought of which business would help the villagers to earn more. They would also advise the villagers accordingly and also ask them to apply for a loan from VSSM &  KRShroff Foundation.  

It is because of such dedicated associates that we have been able to cater to the needs of 8200 such families and make them self-sufficient & independent.  Geetaben's daily trade is good. Her wish is to repay the present loan first and then take a bigger loan for a bigger grocery store.

To all whom we have given the loans to, they have started to dream big. We can see & feel this clearly.. We only wish that all be happy  and also wish & pray that Geetaben's dreams are also fulfilled

મહિસાગરના જેતપુરમાં રહેતા ગીતાબહેનને ઘરમાં કરેલી પોતાની નાનકડી દુકાન બતાવતા મર્માળુ હસીને કહ્યું.

જેતપુરમાં બજાણિયા પરિવારોનું ફળિયું મોટુ. જો નાનકડી દુકાન થાય તો ત્યાં વકરો સારો થાય એવી ગીતાબહેનની લાગણી.

આ બધા પરિવારો સાથે અમારો નાતો વર્ષોનો.. વળી મહિસાગરના અમારા કાર્યકર વિનોદભાઈ અને કાંતાબહેન બેય અમારા કરતાંય આ પરિવારો વધારે સુખી કેવી રીતે થાય તેના સપના સેવે. ફલાણો ધંધો કરો તો પૈસા વધુ મળશે જેવી શીખામણો આપે ને શીખામણ પછી KRSF અને VSSM માંથી લોન આપે. 

આવા સંનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકરોની ઘગશના લીધે જ અમે ગીતાબહેન જેવા 8200 પરિવારોને લોન આપી પગભર કરી શક્યા છીએ.. 

ગીતાબહેનનો દૈનિક વકરો સારો એવો થઈ જાય છે. એમની ઈચ્છા હાલમાં લીધેલી લોન પતાવી વધુ મોટી લોન લઈને કરિયાણા સહિતની મોટી દુકાન કરવાની છે..

અમે જેટલા પણ વ્યક્તિઓને લોન આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બન્યા છીએ એ બધા સપના જોતા થઈ ગયા છે એ સ્પષ્ટ જણાઈ રહ્યું છે.

બસ સૌ સુખી થાય એવી શુભભાવના... ને ગીતાબહેનનું સ્વપ્ન પણ ફળે એમ પણ ઈચ્છીએ...

 "I want to become a Collector," said little Ananya. She doesn’t fully understand what a Collector is, but her father, Harshadbhai, has planted this dream in her.

When asked why he wants her to become a Collector, Harshadbhai, our borrower, replied, "I want to be an ideal father for my daughter. I want her to be able to say with pride that her father worked hard for her."

Harshadbhai is not very educated. He works in a private company, but his income from the job is not enough. So, he decided to open a small shop in front of his house. He had faith that his wife, Ramilaben, would manage the shop. But they didn’t have the money to stock the shop.

They live in Dabhan, Kheda. Our worker, Rajnibhai, also lives in Dabhan. Harshadbhai discussed his business plans with Rajnibhai, who knew about his lack of capital. Eventually, Rajnibhai recommended that they seek financial assistance from VSSM, KRSF. We provided them with a loan of ₹50,000, which they used to set up a nice shop.

Ramilaben manages the shop, and their income has improved significantly. Ramilaben says, "When both of us earn, it makes a difference."

Through VSSM, KRSF, and Vimukta Foundation, we have provided loans to over 8,000 families, helping them start their own businesses. We wish for Harshadbhai and Ramilaben to be happy and successful.

'મારે કલેક્ટર થવું છે.'

નાનકડી અનન્યાયે આ કહ્યું.. કલેક્ટર એટલે કોણ એવી એને ઝાઝી ખબર ન પડે પણ એના પપ્પાએ એનામાં આ સ્વપ્ન રોપ્યું.

કલેક્ટર કેમ બનાવવી છે? એના જવાબમાં અનન્યાના પપ્પા એટલે કે અમારા લોનધારક હર્ષદભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'મારે મારી દીકરી માટે આદર્શ પિતા બનવું છે. મોટી થઈને એ ગર્વ સાથે કહી શકે કે મારા પિતાએ મારા માટે ખુબ મહેનત કરી..'

હર્ષદભાઈ ભણ્યા ઓછુ. ખાનગી કંપનીમાં નોકરી કરે પણ નોકરીની આવકમાં પુરુ ન થાય. એમણે ઘર આગળ નાનકડી દુકાન નાખવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. દુકાન સંભાળવાનું એમના પત્ની રમીલાબેન કરી લેશે એવો વિશ્વાસ. પણ દુકાનમાં સામાન લાવવા પૈસા નહીં. 

ખેડાના ડભાણમાં એ રહે. અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈ પણ ડભાણમાં રહે. રજનીભાઈ સાથે ધંધો કરવાની વાતો પણ થાય. મૂડી નથી એ રજનીભાઈ જાણે. આખરે રજનીભાઈએ જ  VSSM, KRSFમાંથી તમને પૈસા આપવાની ભલામણ કરી. અમે એમને લોન પેટે 50,000 આપ્યા. જેમાંથી એમણે સરસ દુકાન કરી.. 

રમીલાબેન દુકાન સંભાળે. આવક પણ સારી થઈ રહી છે.. રમીલાબેન કહે, 'બે જણા કમાય તો ફરક તો પડે જ..'

VSSM, KRSF અને વિમુક્ત ફાઉન્ડેશન થકી 8000 થી વધારે પરિવારોને લોન આપી એમને સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા કર્યા છે...

 Rajubhai used to sell flowers and flower garlands on retail basis in Jetpurgaam, Mahisagar.

There was no much demand of flowers in the village, so he used to go to Lunawada market with a rented cart carrying flowers.

He used to earn just enough to live from day to day. He knew that if he could get a work order to decorate wedding mandap and cars, the income will be good. But how would he get such big orders while working from just a cart?

We work to change the lives of acrobat families living in Jetpur. Our associate Vinodbhai regularly goes to Jetpur. Many families living in the village took loans from us and made good money.

Rajubhai also asked for a loan and we lent him a loan of Rs. 30,000. With this money, he rented a shop and bought more quantity of flowers. Resultantly, he started getting bigger orders to deliver flowers to weddings.

After that he took another loan of 50,000. That helped him generate more income. He bought Ecko car. If and when he gets an order in surrounding villages of Lunawada, he goes to fullfill orders there too. The car helped him to increase scope of his work.

Rajubhai's wife also helps him making flower garlands sitting home. Rajubhai dreams big. Because he is diligent, we are sure his dreams surely will materialize. 

Respected Pratulbhai Shroff and his Dr. K. R. Foundation are also now involved in self-reliance activities with VSSM. We are sure  that thousands of families will be helped by this association...

ફુલોના હાર ને છુટક ફુલ વેચવાનું કામ કરતા રાજુભાઈ મહિસાગરના જેતપુરગામના.

ગામમાં તો ફુલોનો એવો કોઈ વેપાર થાય નહીં એટલે લુણવાડાની બજારમાં ભાડાની લારી લઈને એ ફુલો લઈને ઊભા રહે.

રોજ જીવાય એટલું કમાય. લગ્ન મંડપ અને ગાડીઓ શણગારવાનું કામ મળે તો આવક સારી થાય એવું એ જાણે પણ લારી પર કામ કરનારને આવા ઓર્ડર ક્યાંથી મળે?

જેતપુરમાં રહેતા બજાણિયા પરિવારોની જિંદગી બદલાય એ માટે અમે કામ કરીએ. અમારા કાર્યકર વિનોદભાઈ નિયમીત જેતપુર જાય. ગામમાં રહેતા ઘણા પરિવારોએ અમારી પાસે લોન લીધી ને બે પાંદડે થયા.

રાજુભાઈએ પણ લોન માંગી અમે 30,000 લોન પેટે આપ્યા. એમાંથી એમણે એક દુકાન ભાડે લીધી ને વધારે ફુલો લાવ્યા. એમને લગ્નમાં ફુલો પહોંચાડવાના ઓર્ડર મળવા લાગ્યા.

એ પછી એમણે બીજી 50,000ની લોન લીધી. આવક પણ વધવા માંડી. ઈકો ગાડી લીધી ને હવે લુણાવાડા આસપાસના ગામોમાં ઓર્ડર મળે તો ત્યાં જઈને એ કામ કરવા માંડ્યા. ગાડી આવવાથી એમના કામનો વ્યાપ વધ્યો..

રાજુભાઈના પત્ની પણ ઘેર બેઠા ફુલોના હાર બનાવવામાં મદદ કરે.. રાજુભાઈના સપના મોટા. પણ એ મહેનતુ છે એટલે એ સાકાર પણ થશે..

વળી આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ - ડો.કે.આર.ફાઉન્ડેશન હવે VSSM ની સાથે સ્વાવલંબન પ્રવૃતિમાં સાથે.. એમના સંગાથથી હજારો પરિવારોને મદદરૃપ થઈ શકાશે એ ચોક્કસ...

 We have got houses, but now the problem is lack of occupation/work. We collect scrap from the streets (scavengers). We got houses in the Gondal-Gundala area of Rajkot. We collect scrap in the city of Gondal. So far our hut dwelling was also in Gondal.  We used to leave in the morning with the gunny bag on our shoulders to collect scrap. By afternoon the bag would get full which we would take it to our hut. We would do this for 2-3 days when the scrap dealer would come and collect all the scrap. But now you have given us houses in Gundala. We are happy about it. Our lifelong dream of having our own house is fulfilled. We have settled down in the new house but now the difficulty is with our work. Gundala to Gondal is about 7 kms. From Gundala we reach Gondal with empty gunny bags in a vehicle. We collect the scrap but after collection to go back to Gundala is a challenge. The distance is too long. To take a rickshaw and go home to Gundala is an expensive proposition . 

We do not know what to do . We got our houses but if we cannot do business what do we eat?  We would not like to stay in temporary sheds now that we have proper homes in Gundala. It is after a great deal of trouble  that we have our own homes.  

With the efforts of all located in the Gundala area of Gondal, VSSM was able to build houses for 87 families.  One of the residents of this home, Smt Gajraben, came to our associates Chhayaben and Kanubhai with the problem faced by about 15 families.. We thought of solving their problem by providing them with a pedal rickshaw.  However, the financial condition of these families is so bad that they cannot buy a pedal rickshaw even after taking a loan. While we were thinking how to solve the problem, we got a phone call from our well-wisher Shri Rajeshbhai Mehta that he along with other well wishers would help solve the pedal rickshaw problem. We felt that this is all nature's play. Shri Jesalkumar Bharatbhai Shah, Shri Milanbhai Ratilal Shah, Shri Tusharbhai Modi, Shri Vinaybhai Mehta & Kaycee Diamonds helped us and we could give  Rickshaw Cycles to 15 such families. Rajeshbhai was instrumental in getting this done. With the blessings of all of you, we improve the lives of 15 families. Thank You very much !! 

'ઘર મળી ગયા પણ તકલીફ કામની હતી.. અમે ભંગાર વીણવાનું કામ કરીએ. રાજકોટાના ગોંડલના ગુંદાળામાં અમને ઘર મળ્યા. કચરો અમે ગોંડલ શહેરમાં વીણીયે. અત્યાર સુધી અમારુ ઝૂંપડું પણ ગોંડલમાં જ હતું એટલે ખભા પર કોથળા લઈને સવારના નીકળી પડીયે. બપોર સુધી ભેગુ થાય એ ભંગાર ખભા પર કોથળામાં લઈને ઝૂંપડે આવીયે. બે ચાર દિવસ આ રીતે ભંગાર ભેગો થાય પછી ભંગારવાળા ભાઈ અમારા છાપરે આવીને સામાન લઈ જાય. પણ તમે અમને પોતાના ઘર ગુંદાળામાં કરી આપ્યા. રાજી તો થવાય. વર્ષોનું અમારા ઘરનું સપનું પુરુ થ્યું. 

અમે રહેવા આવી ગયા. પણ પછી તકલીફ ભંગાર વીણવાના ધંધાને લઈને થવા માંડી. ગુંદાળાથી ગોંડલ છ સાત કી.મી. થાય. અમે વાહનમાં ખાલી કોથળા સાથે બેસીને ગોંડલ પહોંચી જઈએ. ભંગાર વીણી લઈએ. પણ એ ભંગાર ખભા પર લઈને વસાહતમાં આવવું મુશ્કેલ થઈ જાય. અંતર ઝાઝુ છે એટલે. રીક્ષા કે કોઈ સાધનવાળાને બેસાડવા કહીએ તો એ ભાડુ એટલું માંગે જેટલો અમે ભંગાર ભેગો કર્યો ન હોય...

શું કરવું સમજાતું નહોતું. ઘરનું સુખ મળ્યું. પણ ધંધો ન કરીએ તો ખાઈયે શું?. પાછુ ગોંડલમાં છાપરુ વાળવું પણ ગમે નહીં. માંડ માંડ છાપરાંમાંથી મુક્તિ મળી હતી'

ગોંડલના ગુંદાળામાં VSSM એ સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોની મદદથી 87 પરિવારોના ઘરો બાંધ્યા. આ ઘરમાં રહેવા આવનાર ગજરાબહેને ભંગારનો ધંધો કરતા 15 પરિવારોની મૂંઝવણ અમારા કાર્યકર છાયાબહેન અને કનુભાઈને કહી. રસ્તો એમને પેડલ રીક્ષા આપવાનો અમે વિચાર્યો.

પણ આ પરિવારોની આર્થિક સ્થિતિ અત્યંત ખરાબ. એ પોતે લોન લઈથી પેડલ રીક્ષા ખરીદી શકે નહીં. 

શું કરવું એ મૂંઝવણ હતી ત્યાં મુંબઈમાં રહેતા અમારા પ્રિયસ્વજન રાજેશભાઈ મહેતાનો ફોન આવ્યો ને એમણે કેટલાક પ્રિયજનો આવા કાર્યમાં મદદ કરવાની ભાવના રાખે છેનું કહ્યું. 

અમને તો જાણે આ બધુ કુદરતે ગોઠવી આપ્યાનું લાગ્યું.. મુંબઈથી અમને શ્રી જેસલકુમાર ભરતભાઈ શાહ, શ્રી મિલનભાઈ રતિલાલ શાહ, શ્રી તુષારભાઈ મોદી, શ્રી વિનયભાઈ મહેતા, Kaycee Diamonds એ મદદ કરી ને અમે 15 પરિવારોને સાયકલ આપી. રાજેશભાઈ આમાં નિમિત્ત બન્યા...

આપ સૌ પ્રિયજનોની મદદથી 15 પરિવારોના જીવને સાતા પહોંચી... ખુબ ખુબ આભાર.

I used to lift & arrange gunny bags in the godown. For each bag that I lifted & arranged, I used to get one rupee.

In my youth I could do this type of work. .Now I get tired though I am not very old. My body is now tired since I have been working from a very young age. I was staying in a temporary shed in Sector 13 of Gandhinagar. However all sheds were demolished. Everything was haywire. With my earnings of Rs200-Rs 250 per day it was not possible to have my own house.

Vershibhai narrated this sad story of his life  Sanjaybhai staying in Gandhinagar helps VSSM in its  various activities. He asked Vershibhai to become a vegetable vendor. Vershibhai thought about it and decided to rent a small farm at Uvarsad to plant vegetables. But he did not have the capital to pay a deposit for the farm land. VSSM decided to help him by giving a soft loan. After that his life was on track.

On the rented land that he got, he built a temporary house  Though the land was not his, he at least got a house to stay for which Vershibhai was happy. From the loan given by VSSM he increased the crop production. His income grew and so did his savings. We wish & pray that Velshibhai attains success & becomes independent in his life. We are thankful to all our wellwishers. It is with their help that we are able to help almost 7000 families with loans. it is our desire to help more such families.

ગોદામમાં કોથળા ઉપાડી ગોઠવવાનું કમ હું કરતો. 1 કોથળો ખબા ઉપર ઉપાડી થપ્પીમાં ગોઠવું તેનો 1 રૂપિયો મળતો. જુવાનીમાં આ બધુ કામ મારાથી થતું. પણ હવે થાક લાગે. ઉંમર કાઈ બહુ મોટી નથી પણ નાનપણથી ધંધે લાગ્યો એટલે શરીર થાક્યું. ગાંધીનગર માં સેક્ટર -13 માં છાપરા આવેલા ત્યાં રહેતો.પણ અમારા છાપરા બે વર્ષ પેહેલા તૂટયાં. બધુ વેર વિખેર થઈ ગયું. કોથળા ઉપાડીને રોજના 200 થી 250 કમાતો. આવામાં પોતાનું ઘર તો ક્યાંથી થાય?

વેરશીભાઈએ ભારે વેદના સાથે પોતાની વેદના વર્ઠાવી. ગાંધીનગર માં રહેતા સંજયભાઈ VSSM દ્વારા થઈ રહેલા સમાજકર્યો માં મદદ કરે તેમને વેરશીભાઈ ને શાકભાજી નો ધંધો કરવા સમજાવ્યા. વેરશીભાઈએ પણ ગાંધીનગર પાસે આવેલા ઉવારસદમાં ભાગવી ખેતી રાખવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. જ્યાં એ શાકભાજી વાવી શકે. પણ ભાગવી જમીન રાખવા તેમની પાસે મૂડી નહી અમે એમને નાનકડી લોન આપી ને વેરશીભાઈ ની જિંદગી પાટે ચડી.

Is it not risky to give a loan to a person who has gone bankrupt.?

It is risky but I did not find Lalabhai cunning. We have been helping such families for many years. Then why not Lalabhai ?

Our associate Paresh, young & enthusiastic, has been with us since he was 18-19 years old. He told us about Lalabhai and we could feel that Paresh has imbibed the culture of service.

Lalabhai stays in Ghodiyal village of Banaskantha. He became a graduate. However he had immense love for Cows.. It was his desire to build a cowshed. He borrowed money and bought four cows. The place where he used to tie the cows caught fire and all the cows were killed.  Paresh realised this and extended a loan of Rs 40,000. Lalabhai bought a cow out of this. This cow was grazing in the field. It did not see the well in the middle and fell in it and drowned & died. Our loan instalments got stalled. Moreover he was also not able to pay the private lender. 

What to do now ? When Lalabhai was asked this question, he asked for a loan. to buy a cow. The cow business was not very favourable to Lalabhai. So he decided to do something else. He challenged nature that you give me troubles I will not lose my hope  & my strength.

Lalabhai had gone bankrupt and in such a condition, Paresh had faith in Lalabhai and gave him a loan again. Again Lalabhai got a cow. He paid off one loan and he again got another loan and bought another cow. Today he has three cows. Apart from this he gives milk to the dairy collection and from whatever profit he makes he buys & sells cows out of it. Gradually his loan also got repaid.      

People normally get dejected if they do not succeed. and gives up the work he was good at. But if he persists he may succeed 

Lalabhai persisted. His intentions were good. He succeeded. 

We can learn from Lalabhai how to fight against failures and win.

'દેવાળિયું ફૂક્યું હોય એવા વ્યક્તિને લોન આપવાનું સાહસ કરવું જોખમી ન ગણાય?'

'જોખમી તો ગણાય. પણ મને લાલાભાઈ લુચ્ચા ન લાગ્યા અને આપણે આવા પરિવારોને બેઠા કરવાનું વર્ષોથી કરીએ તો લાલાભાઈને કેમ નહીં?'

કાર્યકર પરેશ.. યુવાન અને ઉત્સાહી.. એ 18-19 વર્ષનો હતો ત્યારેથી અમારી સાથે જોડાયેલો. એણે આ વાત કરી એનાથી સેવાના સંસ્કાર એનામાં બરાબર ઉતર્યાનું લાગ્યું.

લાલાભાઈ બનાસકાંઠાના ઘોડિયાલમાં રહે. સ્નાતક થયા. પણ એમને ગાયો માટે ઘણો પ્રેમ. એમની ઈચ્છા ગાયોનો તબેલો કરવાની. એમણે વ્યાજવા પૈસા લઈને ચાર ગાય લાવ્યા. જે વાડામાં ગાયો બાંધતા ત્યાં આગ લાગીને લાલાભાઈ ત્યાં પહોંચી બધુ થાળે પાડે તે પહેલાં ગાયો ભસ્મીભૂત થઈ ગઈ. 

અમારા પરેશને આ ખ્યાલ આવ્યો એણે લાલાભાઈને 40,000ની લોન VSSM માંથી અપાવી. લાલાભાઈ એમાંથી ગાય લાવ્યા.

આ ગાય ખેતરમાં ચરિયાણ કરી રહી હતી. ખેતરમાં કૂવો દેખાયો નહીં એ એમાં પડી ને મૃત્યુ પામી. 

અમારી લોનના હપ્તા તો ખોટકાયા. પણ જેમની પાસેથી એમણે વ્યાજવા પૈસા લીધા હતા તેના પણ હપ્તા ન ભરી શકાય.

હવે શું કરવું છે? એવું લાલાભાઈને પુછ્યું ને એમણે કહ્યું લોન આપો ગાય લાવવી છે..

લાલાભાઈએ ગાયોના ધંધામાં બરકત નથી. લાવ બીજુ અજમાવું એવું ન વિચાર્યું. એમણે જાણે કુદરતને પડકારી કે તુ દુઃખ આપ હું હિંમત નહીં હારુ.

લાલાભાઈએ દેવાળુ ફૂંકેલું. આવામાં નવી લોન અપાય કે નહીં તે મૂંઝવણ વચ્ચે VSSM ના કાર્યકર પરેશે ભરોષો કરી લોન આપી. ફરી ગાય લાવ્યા. એક લોન પતી ને બીજી લીધી ને ફરી ગાય લાવ્યા. આજે એમની પાસે ત્રણ ગાયો છે. એ સિવાય ડેરીમાં દૂધ ભરાવી જે નફો થાય એમાંથી એ ગાયો લે વેચનું કામ પણ કરવા માંડ્યા.

દેવું પણ ધીમે ધીમે ઉતરી રહ્યું છે..

માણસો નિષ્ફળતામાં હતાશ થઈ જઈને જે કામમાં તેમણે હાથ અજમાવ્યો હોય એ છોડી દેવાનું કરે. પણ કદાચ ટકી રહે તો એ નિષ્ફળતા પછી તુરત સફળતા મળી શકે..મુદ્દો ખાલી ટકવાનો ને હિંમત ન હારવાનો છે.. 

લાલાભાઈ ટકી રહ્યા.. વળી એમની નિષ્ઠા પાક્કી હતી એટલે એ સફળ પણ થયા..

લાલાભાઈ પાસેથી આપણે સૌએ મુશ્કેલીમાં પણ ટકી રહેવાની વાત શીખવા જેવી...

Mittal Patel visits Bhagatbhai's farm

In Gujarat a straight forward gentleman is known as  "Bhagat". In Dabhan village in Kheda district we met a gentleman by the name "Bhagat".

He requested me to come & see his farm when we had gone to our associate Rajnibhai's house for lunch. Before I could ask him why he wanted us to come & see his farm, he said that it was VSSM which gave him a loan of Rs 50,000 and the farming that he has done is because of that. Now I understand the reason for Bhagat's invitation to see his farm.We reached Bhagatbhai's farm passing through a tobacco farm for which kheda is famous. He had planted brinjals. 

I asked Bhagatbhai that these days most people do not like farming. Why do you like it ? He said that he is not much educated and he has a good grip on farming as compared to other vocations.  I was happy when I heard Bhagatbhai's answer. Many feel ashamed to admit that they do farming for living. There was a time when farming was considered to be the best vocation compared to other businesses and jobs. However today people prefer to take up any jobs even if it requires them to go to cities. Villages have become desolate.

Bhagatbhai said that if VSSM had not given him the loan, then he would have borrowed at a very high rate of interest. It would have been very difficult to save after paying such high interest. Since the VSSM loan is interest free, he could save. Earlier too he had taken a loan from VSSM which had benefited him a lot.

Shri Pratulbhai from Dr K R Shroff Foundation has supported us a lot in our loan program. KRSF & VSSM with their associates have so far reached out to more than 8,000 individuals and made them independent. The feeling that you all are with us is a source of joy for me. Bhagatbhai's feelings are nice and we wish more prosperity to him.

આપણા ત્યાં આમ તો સજ્જન લાગતા માણસને સૌ ભગતના ઉપનામથી ઓળખે. પણ ખેડાના ડભાણમાં અમને ભગતભાઈ નામવાળા વ્યક્તિ મળ્યા.

મારી ખેતી જોવા આવો બેન એવું અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈના ઘરે અમે જમવા ગયા ત્યારે એ કહેવા આવ્યા. ભગતભાઈ ખેતી જોવા આવવાનું કેમ કહે છે એ વિષે સવાલ પુછુ એ પહેલાં જ એમણે કહ્યું,

'મને VSSM એ ભાગવું ખેતર રાખવા 50,000ની લોન આપી એમાંથી ખેતી કરી છે માટે.'

હવે ખેતી જોવા આવવાનું આમંત્રણ મળ્યાનું કારણ સમજાયું. 

અમે જમીને પહોંચ્યા ભગતભાઈના ખેતરે. તમાકુની ખેતી માટે ખેડા જાણીતું. તે તમાકુના ખેતર વટાવતા અમે ભગતભાઈના ખેતરે પહોંચ્યા. એમણે રીંગણાની ખેતી કરેલી. 

'આજે લોકોને ખેતી ગમતી નથી ત્યારે તમે ખેતી કેમ પસંદ કરી?'

'હું ઝાઝુ ભણ્યો નથી વળી બીજા વ્યવસાય કરતા મને ખેતીમાં ફાવટ છે એટલે..'

સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું. આજે ખેતી કરુ છુ એવું કહેવામાં લોકો શરમ અનુભવે. 

એક સમય હતો જયારે ખેતીને ઉત્તમ, મધ્યમ વેપાર અને નોકરીને કનિષ્ક માનવામાં આવતી એની જગ્યાએ આજે લોકોને નોકરી એ પણ શહેરમાં હોય એવી ગમે..એટલે ગામડાં ભાંગી રહ્યા છે..

ભગતભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'તમે પૈસા ન આપ્યા હોત તો મારે વ્યાજવા લેવા પડત. એમાં સરવાળે કશું બચત નહીં. પણ આ લોન મળી જેમાં વ્યાજ નથી એટલે બચત થવાની. અગાઉ પણ મે લોન લીધી હતી તેમાં પણ મને સારી એવી બરકત થઈ.'

KRSF ના આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈનો સ્વાવલંબન કાર્યક્રમમાં અમને ઘણો સહયોગ. KRSF અને VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોએ મળીને 8000 થી વધારે લોકોને અત્યાર સુધી લોન આપીને પગભર કર્યા છે. આપ સૌ પ્રિયજનો સાથે છો એનો રાજીપો વ્યક્ત કરુ છું.

 "My parents used to sell "Datun" sticks (teeth cleaning twigs) . Many years ago they settled in Bidaj village. From then on have stayed back at the same place.They are not educated but understand its importance. So they put me in a school and I passed 10th Standard. After that they didn't have the money for me to study further. I started a job. However, I was not very keen on it. I always thought that If I could do my own business, I could progress faster. However, I did not have funds to do business. Yet started trading in textiles. With my income I was able to run my household. I always felt that if I put more money in my business, I will be able to earn more.

If I borrow from a third party, the interest would be very high. During that time I got acquainted with Shri Rajnibhai of VSSM. I know VSSM helps people like me by giving loans. I was hesitant to ask for a loan but Rajnibhai encouraged me to borrow. I took a loan and bought more goods. I would spread my clothes near Dholka, Kalikund and sell them. My profit increased. I repaid my loan within scheduled time. Took another loan. The income was bound to increase. I bought a rickshaw which helped save the transport cost of my goods.

Now I earn monthly Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000. I would have earned something similar in job too but would not have got the independence that I now have. I can go anywhere I want to and do not need to take permission from anyone.. My wife would also take care of my stock & business"

This is the life story of Mukeshbhai staying in Bidaj village of Kheda. The son of parents who sold "datun" sticks is now a businessman. His face reflected the joy of success. His wish was to have his own shop one day. We wish Mukeshbhai more success in the coming years.

'મારા બાપા દાતણ વેચતા. વર્ષો પહેલાં એમણે બીડજમાં આવીને ડેરા નાખેલા. પછી અહીંયા જ રહી પડ્યા. એ પોતે નહોતા ભણ્યા પણ ભણતરનું મહત્વ એમને ખબર એટલે એમણે મને નિશાળમાં બેસાડ્યો. હું 10 પાસ થયો. પછી આગળ ભણાવવાની મા-બાપની તાકાત નહોતી. મે નોકરી શરૃ કરી. પણ નોકરીમાં ઝાઝુ મન ન લાગે. પોતાનો ધંધો હોય તો આગળ જવાય એવો વિચાર આવે પણ પાસે ઝાઝા પૈસા નહીં.. છતાં પણ કપડાંનો વેપાર શરૃ કર્યો. કમાણી થાય. ઘર ચાલે. પણ વધારે પૈસા ધંધામાં નાખુ તો આવક સારી થાય એવું સતત થયા કરે. 

બહારના કોઈ પાસેથી પૈસા લઉં તો વ્યાજ ઘણું થાય. ત્યાં VSSMના રજનીભાઈ સાથે પરિચય થયો. સંસ્થા અમારા માટે કાર્ય કરે એ વાત જાણું પણ પૈસા માંગવામાં જરા મન પાછુ પડતું પણ રજનીભાઈએ હિંમત આપી ને મે લોન લીધી. લોનથી હું વધારે સામાન લાવ્યો. ધોળકા કલીકુંડ પાસે પથારો કરીને ડ્રેસ વેચું. નફો વધ્યો. 

લોન સમયસર ભરપાઈ કરી. એ પછી બીજી લોન લીધી. આવક તો વધવાની જ હતી. મે રીક્ષા લીધી. જેથી સામાન લાવવા લઈ જવાનું ભાડુ બચ્યું.

હાલ મહિને 25,000 થી  30,000 કમાઈ લઉ છું. નોકરીમાં એટલું તો મેળવી લેત. પણ સ્વતંત્રતા ન મળત. મારે ક્યાંય જવું આવવું હોય તો પોતાનો ધંધો હોય તો રોકટોક ન રહે. મારી પત્ની પણ પથરો સાચવે..'

ખેડાના બીડજગામમાં રહેતા મુકેશભાઈની આ પ્રગતિ. એ કહે, 'એક દાતણ વેચરનારનો દિકરો ધંધાદારી બની ગયો.'

એમના મોંઢા પર પ્રગતિનો આનંદ હતો. તેમની ઈચ્છા પોતાની દુકાન કરવાની. મુકેશભાઈ ખુબ પ્રગતિ કરે તેવી શુભેચ્છા...

How can one do a business in Sarees for a mere Rs 10,000/- ? Isn't it surprising to know this? Even I was surprised. How many sarees & of what quality can be bought/sold in this amount. We had lots of questions. However, our associate Shankarbhai had a lot of faith in Hansaben who wanted to do this business in sarees.

We gave her a loan  of Rs 10,000. 

Hansaben would purchase Sarees from some lady in Radhanpur. She would put the same in a bag and go to nearby villages to sell. We were worried whether she would be making profit in this. To our surprise Hansaben did not default on a single instalment of her loan & repaid the entire loan.She asked for another loan. When I went to Radhanpur , I met Hansaben & asked her of the benefit she got out of the first loan.    She said "I could save small amounts from selling sarees. My husband had purchased a second hand Rickshaw by making a down payment. I gave him Rs 9,000 which I saved for making the down payment. Earlier we used to be labourers but now we both have our own businesses. From the loan that you will give now, I will buy little more expensive sarees. However you please give a loan of Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 10,000."  Hansaben requested this with a smile and also with a lot of confidence.

We support 7000 such people in their business by giving loans. Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff of Dr K R Shroff Foundation has been a big supporter in this mission.  We are extremely thankful to him for his generous contribution to this cause.

સાંભળીને નવાઈ લાગે ને? મનેય લાગી. આટલી નાની રકમમાંથી કેટલી સાડી આવે એ પણ કેવી ગુણવત્તાવાળી ને કોણ ખરીદે?

ઢગલો પ્રશ્નો થયા. પણ અમારા કાર્યકર શંકરભાઈને સાડીનો ધંધો કરવાની હોંશ રાખનાર હંસાબહેન પર ભરોષો હતો.

અમે લોન પેટે પૈસા આપ્યા.

હંસાબહેન રાધનપુરમાંથી જ કોઈ બહેન પાસેથી સાડી ખરીદે અને થેલામાં ભરી ગામડાંઓમાં વેચવા જાય. આ બધુ સાંભળી ખરેખર નફાકારક વેપાર થતો હશે એ પ્રશ્ન થતો. પણ હંસાબહેને લોનનો એક પણ હપ્તો પાડ્યો નહીં. એમની લોન ભરપાઈ થઈ ગઈ.

એમણે બીજી લોન માંગી. રાધનપુર જવાનું થયું ત્યારે એમને મળી અને પહેલી લોનથી શું ફાયદો થયો એવું પુછ્યું તો એમણે કહ્યું.

‘ધંધો કરતા કરતા થોડી બચત કરતી ગઈ. મારા ઘરવાળાએ હમણાં જૂની રીક્ષા ડાઉનપેમેન્ટ ભરીને લીધી. ડાઉનપેમેન્ટ ભરવા મે 9000 સાડીઓના ધંધામાંથી બચત કરીને આપ્યા. પહેલાં એ મજૂરી કરતા હવે અમે બેય ધંધાવાળા થઈ ગયા.તમે બીજી લોન આપશો તો હાલ જે સાડીઓ લાવુ છું એના કરતા થોડી મોંધી સાડીઓ લાવી શકીશ પણ હા તમે હવે 10ની જગ્યા એ 30,000ની લોન કરજો’ એવું હસતા હસતા પૂરા આત્મવિશ્વાસ સાથે હંસાબહેને કહ્યું...

God always gives the best and when He does not give, He helps you to find the way to get the best. When God makes you wait, He is preparing to give you the best. One must be patient and continuously strive to do the best. 

Recently in Radhanpur, Patan, all who had been granted loans by VSSM, came to meet me.

They all had shown patience & persistence.

Zamuba & Madhuben said that while everyone went to work , they stayed back to take care of the home. However it was their dream to work and bring home a few rupees. If they get buffalos, they would get the fodder from the forest for free. From the milk that they would deliver to homes, they could earn some money. However the question was who would pay for the buffalo.

Dilipbhai wanted to sell fruits which required more funds, Mitulben wanted to grow her cutlery business, Arvindbhai wanted to do Mandap construction work, Bharatbhai wanted to do furniture work. In short, all had aspirations & dreams but had no funds to fulfill their dreams.

Our colleague Shankarbhai committed on behalf of VSSM that all would get loans. With the help of the loan they could convert their dreams into reality. Everyone's income increased.

Shankarbhai, in a lighter vein, said that if he has to come to collect instalments of loan he will not help them get further loan. This had the desired impact and all deposited their instalment on time in the VSSM account directly. Almost everyone's loan was getting over. Everyone talked about how the loan helped them increase their income. They quietly asked for a second loan. When we asked why the second loan, they reminded us that  we had told them to become financially stable which in turn would help to solve many other problems. They had dreams to fulfill.

We were happy to listen to them & promised them a second loan.

In Patan District we have given such loans to over 1000 families so that they could do independent business. We at VSSM are thankful to Respected Pratulbhai Shroff & Dr K R Foundation. Pratulbhai compares  education to a precious stone and to that we added financial stability. If these both are available to men, their future would be just great. They would become independent and that is what we want.

ઝમુબા અને મધુબહેને કહ્યું, 'ઘરના બધા કામે જાય ને અમે ઘર સંભાળીયે પણ મનમાં પોતાના હાથમાં બે પાંચ રૃપિયા આપ કમાઈના આવે એવી હોંશ. ભેંસ લઈએ તો ઘાસચારો તો વગડામાંથી મળી રહે ને ઘર ઘરાવું દૂધ ભરાવીએ તો બે પાંચ રૃપિયા રળી લેવાય. પણ ભેંસ લઈ કોણ આપે?'

દીલપીભાઈ શાકભાજીની લારી ચલાવે એમને ફ્રુટની લારી કરવી હતી પણ એમાં પૈસા ઘણા જોઈએ. આવું જ મીતુબેનનું પણ એમને કટલરીનો ધંધો વધારવો હતો તો અરવીંદભાઈને મંડપનો ધંધો કરવો હતો તો ભરતભાઈને ફર્નીચરનું કામ રાખવું હતું.

ટૂંકમાં સૌના સમણા મોટા હતા. પણ સમણાં પૂરા કરવા પૈસા નહીં.

અમારા કાર્યકર શંકરભાઈએ આ બધાને VSSM મદદ કરશેનું કહ્યું ને અમે લોન આપી..

જેેમાંથી બધાની સુખાકારી વધી..

'લોનના હપ્તા લેવા મને બોલાવશો તો ફેર લોન નહીં આપુ' એવી શંકરભાઈની મીઠી ટકોરે પણ કામ કર્યું ને બધા સીધા અમારા ખાતામાં જમા કરાવતા થયા. 

લગભગ બધાની લોન પૂર્ણ થવામાં હતી. આવકમાં કેવો વધારો થયો એની બધાએ વાત કરી. પછી હળવેકથી બીજી લોનની માંગણી કરી. 

શું કામ બીજી? એમ પુછ્યું તો કહે,

'તમે જ ક્યો છો ને કે પૈસાવાળા થાવ. પૈસા કમાશો તો ઘણા પ્રશ્નો આપો આપ ઉકલી જશે. તે અમારી આંખો હવે સ્વપ્ન જોતી થઈ ગઈ.'

સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું... આપીશું બીજી લોન પણ..

પાટણ જિલ્લામાં અમે 1000 થી વધારે પરિવારોને લોન આપી સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા કર્યા છે.
