Navghanbhai lives in Surendranagar’s Dhudhrej. The family’s traditional occupation was converting/upcycling edible oil containers into storage bins by fitting them with attached lids. These kind of containers were a common feature in the larders of most households. Even my house had them!! Recycling and upcycling were a way of life in the past; it was a strong value we had imbibed from the generations before us. And with the current use and throw culture, imagine how far we have come! Do we have plastic to blame for it or the change in our attitude that now looks for ‘convenience’ all around?

Coming back to Navghanbhai, he opted out of following his father’s crumbling profession. Instead, he learned to make wooden toys and taught the craft to his wife too. Despite being a skilled craftsman, his lack of business skills kept his earnings meagre. Navghanbhai needed capital to buy raw materials at wholesale rates, and since he knew VSSM’s Harshadbhai, he requested a loan from VSSM. And after VSSM loaned him Rs.  30,000, he has been doing good.

“Earlier, I sold goods worth 10-12 thousand; that figure has now gone up to 15-17 thousand!” Navghanbhai was upbeat while sharing about the growth in his business. Navghanbhai takes his toys to all the fetes that happen across Saurashtra.

Inspired by his son’s success, the father has decided to learn the wooden toy-making craft and boost his earnings.

Navghanbhai aspires to build a pucca house and educate his children well. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours and hope for continued success.

નવઘણભાઈ #સુરેન્દ્રનગરના #દૂધરેજમાં રહે. એમના પિતાનો વ્યવસાય તેલના ખાલી ડબ્બાના ઢાંકણા બનાવવાનો.

જો કે પહેલાં આવા ડબ્બાનો વપરાશ ઘણો હોતો. મારા ઘરેય આવા ડબ્બા હતા. ક્યારેક થાય આપણે એ વખતે દરેક વસ્તુઓ કેવી ચીવટથી વાપરતા. કપડાં ફાટે તો એની થેલીઓ બનતી. ગોદડાના કવર બનતા. પણ હવે જમાનો યુઝ એન્ડ થ્રોનો..

આમ જુઓ દાટ બધો પ્લાસ્ટીકે વાળ્યો. 

ખેર નવઘણભાઈની વાત કરતા કરતા મારી ગાડી પાછી પાટાથી નીચે ઉતરી ગઈ.

નવઘણભાઈએ પિતાનો ડબ્બાના ઢાંકણા બનાવવાનો વ્યવસાય ન કર્યો. એ લાકડાંમાંથી #રમકડાં બનાવવાનું શીખ્યા. એમના પત્નીનો પણ એમને સાથ મળ્યો.

પણ એમની પાસે મૂડી ઝાઝી નહીં. એટલે મળતર ઝાઝુ મળે નહીં.

એમને હોસસેલમાં સામટો સામાન લાવવો હતો. એ માટે એમને પૈસાની જરૃર હતી.. અમારા કાર્યકર હર્ષદભાઈને એ બરાબર ઓળખે. તે એમની પાસે VSSMમાંથી લોન અપાવવા એમણે કહ્યું ને અમે 30,000 આપ્યા. 

પછી તો એમની ગાડી સરસ નીકળી પડી.

એ કહે, "પેલાં દસ બાર હજારનું કામ થાતું હવે ધંધો પંદર હત્તર હાજરે પોગી ગ્યો."

સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં મેળાની પરંપરા વધારે. નવઘણભાઈ લગભગ દરેક  મેળામાં જાય.

બાપનો ધંધો દીકરો શીખે પણ નવઘણભાઈની પ્રગતિ જોઈ તેમના પિતા પણ રમકડાં બનાવતા થઈ ગયા. એ પણ રમકડાંનો સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા થઈ ગયા. 

નવઘણભાઈનું સ્વપ્ન ધંધામાંથી પૈસા કમાઈને પોતાનું પાક્કુ ઘર બનાવવાનું ને બાળકોને ભણાવવાનું..

બસ એ ખુબ પ્રગતિ કરે તેમ ઈચ્છીએ...
