VSSM helped Laljibhai Gadaliya get rid of wandering...

Mittal Patel went to see Laljibhai Gadaliya's machine

Laljibhai Gadaliya's  profession of making iron tools and selling oxen  required him to lead an  itinerant life. Both Laljibhai and his wife Kesarben, always missed the positives of a settled life, the possibilities of sending children to school and owning a house!! Although they would return to Tankara during monsoons, the couple along with their children kept wandering on their bullock cart in search of work, a kind of work that hardly earned them enough to meet the basic needs of their family.

VSSM’s Kanubhai and Chayaben had helped Laljibhai obtain Voter ID card, Ration Card etc. in the past,  but they could never work-out a way to ensure their children go to school. After comprehending Laljibhai’s strong desire to educate his children Kanubhai had suggested them to settle down at one place.

“ I wasn’t prepared to give up on my profession but Kanubhai provided strong support, that year when  families from our community set out we did not join them. I began working as labour at tuck loading place. Every-day I would earn Rs. 150 but this was not enough. Kanubhai who visits our settlement regularly and witnesses  our struggle. He suggested we begin making iron tools from our own  house. It required me to buy a machine  and I did not have capital to make that huge investment, to which Kanubhai suggested we take an interest free loan from  VSSM.  Initially I was afraid and apprehensive. But Chhayaben insisted all will be good and I bought a second hand machine from Rs. 50,000 loan I was provided. Life is good now. The sales are good and my children are able to go to school too.” Laljibhai reminisces.

I was in Tankara recently and Laljibhai insisted I come and see his machine. It brings immense joy to be able to witness such change. “We are free from the daily wandering and our children are going to school too.” Kesarben adds.

લાલજીભાઈ #ગાડલિયા વર્ષોથી લોખંડમાંથી ઓજારો બનાવી વેચવાનું તેમજ ઢાંઢા(બળદો) વેચવાનું કરે. આ વ્યવસાયના ભાગરૃપ વિચરણ તો કરવું પડે. 

ટંકારાના લાલજીભાઈને અને તેમની પત્ની કેસરબહેનને હંમેશાં થાય કે, ‘આપણી જિંદગી આમ જ જતી રહેવાની? શું આપણે બાળકોને નહીં ભણાવી શકીએ?’

લાલજીભાઈની વાત સાચી હતી. કમને પતિ પત્ની બેય બાળકો સાથે ગાડુ લઈને પેટ ખાતર જગ ભમ્યા કરે. પાછુ આ વિચરણમાંય પેટજોગુ માંડ ભેગુ થતું.

VSSMના કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેન પાસે પોતાની ઓળખના આધારો અપાવવાની વાત લઈને લાલજીભાઈ પહોંચેલા. મતદારકાર્ડ, રેશનકાર્ડને એ બધુ તો થયું પણ બાળકોને ભણાવવાનું થતું નહીં. બાળકોને ભણાવવાની હોંશ જોઈને કનુભાઈએ કહ્યું, ‘સ્થાયી રહીને કામ કરો તો જ બાળકો ભણી શકશે.’

લાલજીભાઈ કહે, ‘ગાડુ ને ઢાંઢા મુકવાનું મન થતું નહોતું. પણ કનુભાઈએ હીંમત આપી સમજાવ્યો. અમારા બીજા ગાડલિયા ગાડા લઈને નીહર્યા પણ હું નો ગ્યો. શું કરીશ એવું ઘણું થાતું તું. પણ પસી ગાડીઓ ભરાવવાની દાડીએ લાગ્યો. રોજના દોઢસો રૃપિયા મજુરી મળવા માંડી. પણ એનાથી ઘર હાલે. કાંઈ પ્રસંગ કે માંદગી નો નીહરે. કનુભાઈ તો અમારા છાપરે નીત આવે. એમને અમારી હાલત સમજાય એક ફેરા એમણે જ કીધુ કે, ઘેર બેઠા લોખંડમાંથી ઓજારો બનાવી હકાય એવું તમે નો કરો? ઘણમશીન લઈએ તો ઘેર બેઠા કામ થાય પણ એ માટે મોટી મૂડી જોઈએ એ અમારી પાહે નો હોય. અમે તો રોજ લાવી ને રોજ ખાઈએ. પણ કનુભાઈએ હીંમત દીધી અને 50,000ની વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપવા કીધું

પેલા તો લોન લેતાય બીક આવતી’તી. લઈને નઈ ભરી હકુ તો એમ થ્યું. પણ પસી છાયાબહેન(#VSSM ના કાર્યકરે)હીંમત દીધી. ને જુનામાંથી અમે ઘણમશીન લાઈવા.

હવે બધીયે વાતનું હખ સે. રોજનો વકરોય હારો થાય સે ને મારા છોકરાં નેહાળે જાય સે.’

ટંકારા જવાનું થયું ત્યારે એમના ઘણમશીનને બતાવવા એ આગ્રહ કરીને લઈ ગયા. જોઈને રાજી થવાયું.

કેસરબેન કહે, ‘ ગામે ગામ ભટકવામાંથી છુટકારો મઈળો. તમે ના હોત તો આ બધુ થવું અઘરુ હતું ’

લાલજીભાઈ કેસરબહેનની જીંદગીમાં નિમિત્ત બન્યાનો આનંદ છે.
