“Don’t look at my age, have faith and sanction a loan,” said 70-year-old Meeraben Kangasiya of Pardhari to our Kanubhai. Meeraben never gives up and had asked for a loan from Kanubhai, to stock up goods for her artificial jewelry business. And looking at her age Kanubhai had refused the proposal.
Every time Kanubhai visited the Kangasiya settlement, Meeraben would come and sit before him, demanding her request be considered.
Kanubhai was at the office, “Meeraben is 70 but her zeal can put any young fellow to shame. Ben, if we can lend her I am sure she would repay well because her business is doing well too.”
We sanctioned her a loan of Rs. 10,000.
Recently, I had an opportunity to be part of a Kangasiya congregation and happened to meet Meeraben. I was not sure how to respond when Meeraben told me how she proved my apprehensions wrong!!
Maulik was around to capture a moment together with this lively lady who proved us wrong….
‘ડોશીને લોન આલવાની ના પડતા તે બેન જોઈ લીધોને મારો વેવાર... હવે સેલ્લો જ હપ્તો બાકી સે. લોન આવતા મહિને તો પતીએ જાસે.’
પડધરીના સીત્તેર વર્ષીય મીરાબહેન #કાંગસિયા એ કાર્યકર કનુભાઈને કહ્યું, ‘એક ફેરા લોન આલી તો જુઓ? મારી ઉંમર હામે ના જુઓ...’
મીરા બહેને શૃંગાર પ્રસાધનો વેચવા લોન માંગી ને કનુભાઈએ એમની ઉંમર જોઈને અમે લોન ના આપી શકીએ તેવો જવાબ આપેલો. પણ હાર માનીને બેસી જાય એ મીરા બહેન નહીં.
કનુભાઈ કાંગસિયા વસાહતમાં જાયને મીરાબહેન આવીને બેસી જાય.
કનુભાઈએ ઓફીસ પર અમને કહ્યું, ‘મીરાબહેન સીત્તેર વર્ષના છે પણ જુસ્સો જુવાનને શરમાવે એવો છે. બેન લોન આપીએ બીજી કોઈ ચિંતા નથી ને ધંધોય સરસ કરે છે...’ ને અમે દસ હજાર વગર વ્યાજે આપ્યા.
કાંગસિયા સમાજના #સંમેલનમાં #નેકનામગામ જવાનું થયું ને મીરાબહેન મળ્યા. ને ઉપરનું વાક્ય કહ્યું. મીરાબહેનને શું કહેવું કશું સમજાયું નહીં પણ હુ હરખાઈ..
મૌલિકના હાથમાં કેમેરો એટલે કહી જ દીધુ કે, આ જીંદાદીલ મીરા બા કે જેમણે અમને ખોટા પાડ્યા એમની સાથે એક ફોટો લઈ જ લે... ને અમે બંને કેમેરામાં કંડારાઈ ગયા...
