Neniben Bawari is a good friend of mine.

She would be around 24 years old, when her husband passed away. After that it was all her responsibility to grow up her three children. She had wished that her children can pursue their education but that couldn’t happen. Her children were very sensible; they could see how much struggle their mother was facing. By looking at that, from very young age they started working, according to their capacity.

Kamlesh, Bechar and Balu are her three children and she got them married. After Balu’s marriage, she was worried and was hoping thart Balu’s husband set up his good business.

Neniben shows her little rightfulness towards us and sometime even her sweet bullying. Now with her even her cousin ‘Puniben’ joined us. ‘Ohh god!! Seriously, you work a lot. God bless you.’ And that’s how by saying this she expresses all other things she wants to address. Our VSSM worker Amiben says.’Puniben make others do what she wants them to do, by having such sweet conversation. These 2 sisters are very active in Ramdevnagar. They care about everyone. I had a lecture in Irama. They both came with me and were introduced to students. There,students had enjoyed  hearing to Puniben’s tone.

Let’s get back to Balu’s story. Naniben took Rs. 30,000 loan from us for Balu’s husband Sanjay, to do a business. And he raised his business at a great level. Balu has one son. Balu, Sanjay and Naniben wishes to get him educated well. Sanjay wishes to expand his business. The loan which he took from organisation is about to finish. Now he is on the verge of taking another loan.

Neniben was insisting me to see Sanjay’s business. So while we were coming back from Irama, Anand, we visited Sanjay’s road side kiosk.

Sanjay said now, ’Our dreams are bigger now. Hence help should be done;’

Nomadic people are not dreaming big; that compliant we won’t have to do. Because there are lot of people like Sanjay, who has started dreaming.

Neniben had a question to herself and worried about raising her children alone, when she became widow. Second marriage was just far away. By raising her children well, uneducated but strong Neniben showed whole society that’ If a woman wishes something, then she can do anything.’

નેનીબહેન #બાવરી મારા પાક્કા બહેનપણી. 

એમની ઉંમર ચોવીસની હશે જ્યારે તેમના પતિ ગુજરી ગયા એ પછી ત્રણે બાળકોને ઉછેરવાની જવાબદારી તેમના શીરે આવી. બાળકો ભણે એવી હોંશ હતી પણ એ ના થઈ શક્યુ. બાળકો સમજદાર હતા મા કેવી તકલીફ વેઠે છે એ જોતા એટલે નાનપણથી જ એમણે એમના ગજાનું કામ શોધી લીધું.

કમલેશ, બેચર અને બાલુ ત્રણેના નેનીબહેને લગ્ન કરાવ્યા. બાલુને લગ્ન પછી સાસરે વળાવી પણ ચિંતા એનો ઘરવાળો સારો ધઁધો કરે એની હતી. 

નેનીબહેન અમારા પર થોડો હક કરે ને ક્યારેક મીઠી દાદાગીરી પણ. હવે તો તેમની સાથે એમની સાથે એમના કાકાના દીકરી પૂનીબહેન પણ ભળ્યા. ‘હાય બાપ તુ ચેટલુ કરે ભગવોન તને સુખી રાખે મારી ઉંમર તને લાગી જાય.’ એવું કાંઈ કેટલુંય બોલી જાય. અમારા અમીબહેન કહે, આ પુનીબહેન જીભે ગોળ ચોંટાડીને આવી છે ને એમનું ધાર્યું કરાવે છે. આ બંને બહેનો રામદેવનગરમાં ખુબ પ્રવૃત. તમામની ચિંતા કરે. મારે ઈરમામાં લેક્ચર માટે જવાનું હતું તે બંને સાથે આવ્યા ને વિદ્યાર્થીઓને સંબોધ્યા પણ ખરાં. ત્યાં પણ પુનીબહેનનો લહેકો સાંભળી વિદ્યાર્થીઓને મજા પડી.

ફરી બાલુ પર આવીએ. નેનીબહેને બાલુના ઘરવાળા સંજયને ધંધો કરવા માટે અમારી પાસેથી ત્રીસ હજારની લોન અપાવી. ને એણે સરસ ધંધો વિસ્તાર્યો. બાલુને એક દીકરો છે જેને ખુબ સારુ ભણાવવાની હોંશ સંજય, બાલુ અને નેનીબહેનના મનમાં છે. સંજયની ઈચ્છા ધંધો વિસ્તારવાની છે. સંસ્થામાંથી લીધેલી લોન પુરી થવામાં છે. હવે બીજી લોન લેવા એ તત્પર છે જેથી વધુ કમાઈ કરી શકાય.

સંજયે કરેલો ધંધો જોવા આવવાનો આગ્રહ નેનીબહેનો તે ઈરમા આણંદથી પાછા આવ્યા ત્યારે સંજયની રોડ સાઈડ પર નાખેલી હાટડી જોઈ.

સંજય કે છે, હવે સપના મોટા થયા છે. મદદ તો કરવી જ પડશે. 

વિચરતી જાતિ સ્વપ્ન જોતી નથી એવી ફરિયાદ હવે ઓછી કરવાની થશે કારણ સંજય જેવા ઘણા હવે સ્વપ્ન જોતા થયા છે.

નેનીબહેનના મનમાં બાળકોને એકલા કેળવી શકાશે તેવો પ્રશ્ન વિધવા થયા ત્યારે થયેલો. બીજા લગ્નનો તો પ્રશ્ન જ નહોતો. ત્યારે સમાજના સૌને નિશાળનું એકેય પગથિયું ના ચડેલા નેનીબહેને પોતાનો સંસાર કેળવીને બતાવી દીધુ કે એક સ્ત્રી ઈચ્છે તો બધુ કરી શકે છે. 

આબાદ રહો ને ખુબ પ્રગતિ કરો તેવી શુભભાવના..

Maganbhai devipoojak took us to show his house. And doors were locked. I said ‘Please unlock your house, I would want to see how much damage has happened.’ He chuckled a little and opened his house and naturally he spoke about the reason why he locks his house. If you see the picture you will also say that. But to know about how that happened please continue reading ahead.

Maganbhai lives in Umari village, near the shore of the Banas river. On their land of livelihood, the first and foremost ever flood waters of 2017 scattered all over. After water level receded, we went to see the land, that time it was tears in our eyes. They used to live in farm by building temporary structure there and that structure also was destroyed with other things. It was the only kachcha house they had in village, now its situation is also as you can see in the picture. In such a situation how will they stand up again that was the question.

We started to levelling the land. But he didn’t have even a penny, and in that too he had to buy seeds for farming and even water. Maganbhai who lost his courage then got in contact with field worker(karyakar) Naranbhai through Kanubhai Raval after floods. And he gave courage to Maganbhai. We asked What help he wants he answered “Loan of Rs. 50000 and loan of Rs.20000 for his son Prahaladbhai.” Vessels, grains such basic necessary things we provided urgently.

Actually floods did damage a lot but the good thing was that  water levels came up in the land . So they could see water in wells, which are existing in their farms. That’s why through loan they thought of taking Rajkotiyu machine and seeds. And we gave Rs. 70,000 to them without interest. 

Few days back we went to Umari and Manganbhai came to meet us.While asking ‘whether the loan was fruitful for them or not?’, he said ‘ Loan did benefit a lot. If we would have taken water on credit base for farming, then we would have to give one third of our income to them. That we could save here. This time castor crop also was good and rates were fine too. So from that castor income I will pay for loan at a time. If you wouldn’t have put faith in us, then I might have faced debt pressure. It was bad that floods came but for us it’s like floods happened for good. Floods came and we met you otherwise who would care for us!!

Maganbhai’s house we will build too. We have appealed to government for the help and also we will help from our side too.

મગનભાઈ #દેવીપૂજક એમનું ઘર બતાવવા અમને લઈ ગયા. ઘરના દરવાજે મોટુ તાળુ મારેલું. મે કહ્યું, ઘર ખોલોને અંદરથી શું નુકશાન થયું છે તે જોવું છે. એમણે હસતાં હસતાં ઘર ખોલ્યું ને તાળું શું કામ મારો છો તે સહજ પણે બોલાઈ ગયું. ફોટો જોશો તો તમે પણ એમ જ કહેશો. પણ આ બધુ કેમ થયું તે જાણવા આગળ વાંચવું રહ્યું.

આ મગનભાઈ #બનાસના કાંઠે આવેલા ઉમરીગામમાં રહે. રોજીરોટીના સાધન સમી જમીન ઉપર પહેલાં 2017ના પુરનું પાણી અને પછી રેતી ફરી વળી. પાણી ઓસર્યા પછી જમીન જોવા ગયા ત્યારે તો આંખોમાંથી આંસુ આવી ગયા. ખેતરમાં છાપરુ કરીને રહેતા એ છાપરુ સામન સાથે જ તણાઈ ગયું. ગામમાં હતું એ કાચુ ઘર જેની હાલત ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે તેવી થઈ. આવામાં ફેર બેઠા કેમના થવાશે તે પ્રશ્ન થઈ આવ્યો.

જમીન સરખી કરવા મહેનત આદરી. પણ પાસે એક રૃપિયોય નહોતો ને એમાં ખેતી માટે બિયારણ, પાણી બધુયે વેચાતુ લેવાનું હતું. જીગર હારી ગયેલા મગનભાઈનો પુર પછી કનુભાઈ રાવળ દ્વારા કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ સાથે સંપર્ક થયો. ને મગનભાઈને હિંમત આપી. શું મદદ કરીએ તેના જવાબમાં તેમણે રુપિયા પચાસ હજારની લોન આપવા કહ્યું. સાથે પોતાના દીકરા પ્રહલાદભાઈને પણ વીસ હજારની લોન માટે કહ્યું. અમે વાસણ, અનાજ જેવી જરૃરી ચીજો તો તત્કાલ આપી.

મૂળ તો પૂરથી નુકશાન ઘણું થયું પણ ફાયદારૃપ જમીનમાં પાણીના તળ ઉપર આવ્યા હતા તે એમના ખેતરમાં કરેલા કુવામાં પાણી દેખાવા માંડ્યું. એટલે લોનથી રાજકોટિયું મશીન અને બિયારણ લાવવા તેમણે વિચાર્યું. અમે વગર વ્યાજે બાપ દીકરાને સીત્તેર હજાર આપ્યા.

થોડા દિવસ પહેલાં ઉમરી જવાનું થયું ને મગનભાઈ મળવા આવ્યા. લોનથી કાંઈ ફાયદો થ્યો કે નહીં એવું પુછતા તેમણે કહ્યું, ‘લોનથી ઘણોય ફાયદો થ્યો. વેચાતુ પોણી લઈન સેતી કરી હોત તો તીજો ભાગ પોણીવાળા ન આલવો પડત તે ઈના બચી જ્યાં. આ ફેરા એઈડાય હારા થ્યા હ્. અન ભાવ ય હારો હ. એઈડા ઊતરક તમારી #લોનના થશે એટલા ભેગા જ ભરી દઈશ. તમે અમાર પર વિસવા ના મુચ્યો હોત તો દેવાના બોજા હેઠળ દબઈ જ્યો હોત. ઓમ તો પુર આયુ એ ખરાબ થ્યું પણ અમાર માટે પુર જોણે હારા માટે જ આયુ. પુર આયુ ન તમે મળ્યા નકર અમારી કુન પડીતી.’

મગનભાઈનું ઘરેય બાંધીશું. સરકારમાં અરજી કરી છે એ સહાય આપશે બાકી અમે મદદ કરીશું.

બસ બધાય સુખી થાય તે ભાવનાથી થઈ રહેલા આ કાર્યોમાં મદદરૃપ થનાર સૌનો આભાર...

“Misery gives courage” this proverb got fulfilled in Lalabhai’s story. Floods of July 2017, they lost their house and household chattels. Not even a spoon was left. 3-acres of land of land washed away. He had a big family, how can they manage? We gave loan for cow and from that they did some savings. Later he bought second cow but it died.”

What nature has decided? The question occured. At that time the idea of making a cowshed struck his mind. But there was no money, still was passionate to do hard work. Three brother’s family asked for help to have stables. We gave 2 lakhs and slowly from that income we talked about having new cow. For stable we need lot of money, which organization can’t give. Then they told us that they brought cows and invited us to their house at Umbari.

Two days before we went to Umbari and reached at lalbhai’s home, and there we saw around twelve cows tied. It was such a wonder!! He said your money gave us courage. He had a thought in mind and knew some farmers from Rajasthan, they gave cows on condition to pay 50,000 installment each month.

“Good income it is. Ben now there is no worry. In a year debt from those farmers would be also paid.”

Lalabhai Raval pays Rs. 6000/- as installment of the loan he has taken from organization. He gives Rs. 2000/- as donation to the organization.

During floods we had met Lalabhai’s mother Shantabahen during the floods. The situation of this family, living under a plastic shed has now changed.

Yes, he still doesn’t have his own pucca house but that too will happen by the time… We wish him that “All of them stay happy, stay immortal and ageless…”

આફત હિંમત આપી ગઈ એ વાત લાલભાઈના કિસ્સામાં સો ટકા ચરિતાર્થ થઈ.

જુલાઈ 2017ના પુરમાં ઘરને ઘરવખરી બધુયે ગયું એક ચમચી નહોતી રહી એમની પાસે. જમીન ધોવાઈ ગઈ. ત્રણ વિધા જમીન. કુટુંબ કબીલો મોટો કેમનું નભાય. ગાય માટે અમે લોન આપી. ને એમાંથી બચત કરી બીજી ગાય લાવ્યા પણ એ મરી ગઈ. 

કુદરત શું કરવા ધારે છે તેવો પ્રશ્ન તે વખતે થયો. ને આજ વખતે તબેલાનો વિચારેય જન્મ્યો. પણ મૂડી ક્યાં હતી. 

મહેનત કરવાની ધગશ હતી. ત્રણ ભાઈઓના પરિવારે તબેલો કરવા માટે મદદ માંગી. અમે બે લાખ આપ્યા ને ધીમે ધીમે આવકમાંથી નવી ગાય લાવવા વાત કરી. તબેલા માટે ઘણા પૈસા જોઈએ જે સંસ્થા ના આપી શકે. એ પછી ગાયો લાવ્યાનું એમણે કહ્યું ને ઉમરી આવવા આમંત્રણ પણ આપ્યું.

બે દિવસ પહેલાં ઉમરી ગયા ને લાલાભાઈના ઘરે પહોંચ્યા તો ખેતરમાં લગભગ બાર ગાયો બાંધી હતી. નવાઈ લાગી.

એમણે કહ્યું, તમારા પૈસાએ હિંમત આપી. મનમાં વિચાર હતો ને રાજસ્થાનના કેટલાક ખેડુને ઓળખતો એમણે ઉધારીમાં મહિને 50,000 હપ્તો ભરવાની શરતે ગાયો આપી. સારી આવક છે બેન હવે ચિંતા નથી. વરસમાં પેલા ખેડુતોનું દેવુંયે ભરપાઈ થઈ જશે. 

લાલાભાઈ સંસ્થાની લોનનો માસીક હપ્તો 6000 ભરે છે ને 2000 સંસ્થામાં અનુદાન પેટે આપે છે.

બોલો છે ને મજાની વાત. આ લાલાભાઈનો કૃતજ્ઞતા ભાવ.

લાલાભાઈ કહે છે, પુર બધુ લઈ ગયું પણ હિંમત આપીને ગયું. અને એ હિંમતથી શું થઈ શક્યું જુઓ...

ખુબ શુભેચ્છાઓ લાલભાઈ પ્રગતિ કરો સુખી થાવ ને સુખી કરો...

લાલાભાઈના મા શાંતાબહેનને પુર વખતે મળ્યા હતા. પ્લાસ્ટીકના મીણિયા નીચે રહી રહેતા આ પરિવારની દશા હવે બદલાઈ છે.. 

હા પાકુ ઘર નથી પણ હવે તો એય થવાનું.... સૌ સુખી થવાની ભાવના અજર અમર રહો....

“What should I tell him? Kanubhai has told me that you took loan but you have not saved anything out of it. Tell me what is the benefit of giving loan to you? It is just like eat drink and be merry. Finish one loan and ask for second one. This circle will go on and on… See if you are getting an extra benefit through loan then only I can rethink to give you loan otherwise if you take one after another loan but don’t work up on any progress or savings then I have denied Chhayaben and Kanubhai to give any loans.” 

“You are right but it is not that we had no benefit by loan. We could have two time meal just because we had loan otherwise it was not that normal for us to see two time meal! We could hardly see two times meal, generally we had one time fast. Yes, we have not saved money but now we will save. You come and make us understand these things otherwise we are illiterate people. We don’t understand much like this.”  

Maniben Kangasiya’s nonstop talk was going on and my mind struck upon the words, “we could have two times meal only after we had loan.” 

“I had not imagined this type of benefit of loan but after listening Manibahen, I felt happy and found our efforts worth. I would surely share the happiness of having someone’s food need satisfaction. I would tell specifically to those who asks, why loan should be given.”

I never dreamed of it that we would be means to satisfy someone’s hunger. Gratitude to all the relatives who are supporting for the cause. 

Now a new resolution, “We would ask for the, yearly wheat and rice to be preserved and would give loan with containers to fill the wheat and rice.” God gets up hungry but see that we don’t go to bed hungry. We want to do it for everyone with God’s grace and with the support of all of you.

'#લોન લઈને કરેલા ધંધામાંથી બચત ના કરીએ તો લોન આપવાનો મતલબ શું? કોઈ મને પુછે કે લોનથી તમારા લોકોના જીવનામાં શું ફેર પડ્યો તો હું શું જવાબ આપું?'

'કેમ કાંઈ ફેર નથ પડ્યો. પડ્યો જ તો. લોન લઈને ધંધો વધાર્યો ને ઈના કારણે જ તો અમે ટંક ખાતા થ્યા લો ઈ મોટો ફરક નો કેવાય કાંઈ?'

ટંકારાના મણીબેન #કાંગસિયાની વાતમાં બીજા ત્રીસ પરિવારોએ પણ સહમતી દર્શાવી.

નાની રકમની લોન કોઈના પેટની બે ટંકની ભૂખ ભાંગે છે. પરાણે કરવા પડતા ઉપવાસથી છુટકારો અપાવે એનાથી મોટો આનંદ શું હોઈ શકે..

“Winter has started, please take away 150 pairs of socks for the daughters staying in the hostel”, said RAvjibhai Kangasiya to VSSM field worker Chhayaben. He is not that well off but he felt like giving so he could not hold on his wish! That made us really happy! Everytime he visits Ahmedabad, he contributes Rs. 200 to 500 on the name of daughters staying at VSSM hostel. “Ben, obligations should not be kept longer! Many like us are looking at you with many expectations. If we go on taking everything from you, strongest treasure may finish…so we give as per our capacity.”

What a Wonderful gesture!

Ravjibhai Kangasiya drives Auto Rickshaw at Rajkot and his wife used to go to sell cutlery items keeping it in a Tokri. His son Gopal was healthy initially so he used to run here and there but once he fell ill and he lost the capacity to move by legs. They spent a lot of money for his treatment but it went in vein. The medical expenses were so high that it was difficult to manage the expenses of basic needs. 

Maulik inspired them to organise a union for Kangasiya community, that they all get united and the material he purchases on a wholesale rate, should be given the community members to sell. Field worker Kanubhai and Chhayaben’s guidance also helped. VSSM gave an interest free loan of Rs. 1, 00,000/-. Now from which trader he used to purchase his business material, he paid there Rs. 1, 00,000/- cash for the material. Also convinced the trader to give more credit of Rs. 1, 50,000/- for more material. The trader was not ready initially but VSSM’s prestige convinced him and he agreed to give more material on the credit of Rs. 1, 50,000/-. Everything was well arranged.

Ravjibhai was worried that if people of his community would not purchase the material from him then what would he do? Kanubhai, VSSM field worker constantly convinced other members of the Kangasiya community to purchase material from Ravjibhai. His community members started purchasing material from him and life changed! 

“Ben, can any Kangasiya’s shop be like this? But all these are your efforts that it has become possible,” he said and took us to see his shop. The women who were purchasing the material from other traders were now getting the same material at a cheaper rate from Ravjibhai’s shop. VSSM could successfully saved the community from the negative politics within the community and other surroundings. 

The attitude of ‘Share happiness and Be happy’ is succeeding.

‘શિયાળો શરૃ થઈ ગ્યો સે તે હોસ્ટેલની દીકરીઓ હાટુ 150 જોડી મોજા લઈ જા જો.’ એવું રવજીભાઈ કાંગસિયાએ કાર્યકર છાયાબહેનને કહ્યું. આર્થિક સ્થિતિ એવીએ સારી નહીં પણ આપવાની ભાવના તેમનામાં જાગી એનાથી રાજી થવાયું. આમ તો અમદાવાદ આવે એટલી વખતે બાળકોના ભાગના કરીને બસો પાંચસો તો એ આપે જ. ‘ધર્માદુ નો રખાય બેન અને અમારા જેવા કેટલા તમારી હામે મીટ માંડીને બેઠા સે તે બધુ લે લે કરીએ તો ભલભલાના ભંડાર ખાલી થઈ જાય એટલે અમારાથી થાય ઈ દઈએ...’

રવજીભાઈ કાંગસિયા રાજકોટમાં રિક્ષા ચલાવે ને પત્ની ટોપલાંમાં શૃંગાર પ્રસાધનો વેચવા જાય. દીકરા ગોપાલના પગ પહેલાં સારા એટલે એ દોડતો ફરે પણ પછી એવી બીમારી લાગુ પડી કે, એનું ચાલવાનું જ બંધ થઈ ગયું. દવા પાછળ ખર્ચોય ઘણો એટલે ઘર ચલાવવુંયે અઘરુ પડે. 

કાંગસિયા સમાજ એક થાય અને પોતે જ હોલસેલમાં સામાન ખરીદેને પછી સમાજના અન્યોને વેચવા આપે તેવું આયોજન કરવા મૌલિકે કાંગસિયાઓને પ્રેર્યા. કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ ને છાયાબહેનનું માર્ગદર્શન ભળ્યું. એક લાખની વગર વ્યાજની લોન અમે આપી. જે વેપારી પાસેથી અત્યાર સુધી બે પાંચ હજારનો સામાન લાવતા તેમના ત્યાંથી એક લાખ રોકડા ને દોઢ લાખનો ઉધારમાં સામાન આપવા વેપારીને સમજાવ્યો. વેપારી પહેલાં તો તૈયાર નહીં પણ સંસ્થાની શાખથી બધુ ગોઠવાયું.

રવજીભાઈને ચિંતા હતી પોતાના સમાજના લોકો એમની પાસેથી સામાન નહીં લે એની. પણ કનુભાઈની સતત સમજાવટથી રાજકોટ ને તેની આસપાસમાં રહેતા કાંગસિયાએ રવજીભાઈ પાસેથી સામાન લેવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. ને જીવન બદલાઈ ગયું. 

‘કાંગસિયાની આવી દુકાન હોય બેન? પણ જુઓ હારા પરતાપ તમારા તે આ બધુ થ્યું...’ એમ કહીને રવજીભાઈએ દુકાન બતાવી. જે કાંગસિયા બહેનો રવજીભાઈ પાસેથી સામાન લેતી થઈ એને પહેલાંના વેપારી કરતાં સસ્તા ભાવથી સામાન મળવા માંડ્યો. ટાંટિયાખેંચમાંથી સમાજને બહાર કાઢવામાં અમે સફળ રહ્યા..

સુખી કર તુ સુખી કરજે ની ભાવના સાર્થક થઈ રહી છે...

VSSM extended the helping hand to Single Mother Madhuben to lead her life independently

Its 21st century and still many a times it is hard living as a single woman in the society, especially if you have kids and your husband has left you. But as it is said, when going gets tough only the tough gets going. 

Madhuben Anilbhai Parmar lives in Dudhrej village of Vadhvan District with her two children, a daughter and a son. She earns by selling plastic goods. 

To increase her business she needed some money, but where would she get the money from?

During that time, Harshadbhai Vyas the VSSM Karyakar, became the source of help to her. She then got an interest free loan of Rs 10, 000/- that VSSM gives to the members of NT/DNT communities. Madhuben had met Mittalben and as suggested by Mittalben, she kept a box where she started to deposit Rs 500/- or more on weekly basis which she kept for the monthly repayment of the loan and ensured that she had some savings. 

With time she was able to repay the loan timely and also could have some saving from which she got jewelry made of silver. 

A second loan of Rs 30, 000/- was also given to Madhuben when she requested for it, so that she could get plastic goods in more quantity from wholesale and increased her income. Her loan has been sanctioned during the month of October, 2017. Madhuben has repaid two installments total of Rs. 4000 and we are sure that her business will do well and she will be able to repay the loan timely. 

Madhuben now also wants to send her son and daughter to the hostels run by VSSM. She is aware of how education can help her children and bring them a better life.

Ravjibhai Danabhai Rathod belongs to Chunaravad, Rajkot District of Gujarat. He has a son, daughter and his wife in his family. His son is handicapped. Ravjibhai was running auto and his wife was selling retail cutlery. She has very good understanding about business. She was known to local material supplier also but if she brought material on credit, she had to bear 10% of loss in prizes. They had no capital amount to invest so her husband used to run auto rickshaw. When he got the information from his community members, that VSSM provides interest free loans for business to his community, he contacted VSSM and asked for Rs. 50,000 loan. He went to the material supplier and brought more material on a wholesale rate. He sold the material on a wholesale rate keeping it 1 rupee lesser price than other sellers. His community members purchased material from him every week. He too set his purchasing schedule on a weekly basis. Their business settled and they started giving installment with it. Their hard work too paid. They have now Rs. 50,000 material in stock with them. 

They express that they felt relief financially because they could get interest free loan. If someone comes telling Mittalben’s name I give them credit of Rs. 5000/-. This inspiration to give credits to someone for business has been received from Mittalben. Even the wholesalers call Kanubhai for giving him material on the prescribed market rates. His business is running well. He thanks VSSM for this change in his life.

VSSM feels grateful to the donors who extends the helping hand to VSSM and VSSM extends the same gesture to the Nomadic and De-Nomadic tribes to uplift their life. This could not have been possible for us to extend the helping hand to others.

Paniben is very hardworking and brilliant woman. I know her since last eight years. She never cried of her pain or poor condition. Whenever there is need to go to government offices for Ration Card, residential plot or any other work, she is ready with no excuses. She is mother of two sons and a daughter. She administers everything of her house. I saw her husband after eight long years. Her house is recognised and run only on her name. 

She lives in a hut covered by tin sheets roof, where there is no facility of water connection or electricity. She was given an interest free loan to arrange a business of Hawser. She re-paid her first loan and VSSM Karyakar Harshad gave her another loan. I met her during my visit to Surendranagar Distict of Gujarat. I asked Paniben, “What benefit you got from loan? This hut is as it is! Couldn’t you save something out of your earnings after the loan?” 

“Why are you saying so, ben?” I am certainly benefited from this loan. I could expand my business because of the loan and I did spend for my son and daughter’s marriage out of my savings. Even the delivery expenses of hospital for my daughter in law, I could pay out of my savings. Now I am saving for my younger daughter Tulsi’s wedding. After that I would work upon the rebuilding of my house.” 

Listening this one cannot hold on without saying Wow! Moreover her administration is very clear. Every month she re-paid her loan installment on time in her language. She even takes care if anyone else in their group doesn’t re-pay loan installments on time and tells them strictly to pay it on time. If someone skips to pay or delay, then Paniben would surely scold that person! She has strong feelings for VSSM and she says pointing at Harshad that when you sent him first time at our place, you said to keep him happy, you ask him if he had to suffer any difficulty?”

She doesn’t like to go to the bank so there is a question where to put her savings. Everything she keeps on hand so sometimes the savings gets spent. I expressed a thought in one meeting that everyone should keep a piggybank at home and some amount of the daily income from the business should be added to piggybank keeping the daily expenses aside. The piggy bank must be opened only once a month to pay loan installments. Rest of the amount should be used to purchase the business material. This practice would never make you feel lost in debts. You would be having money on hand and that will add confidence into you. 

This thought was widely accepted by the people of her hamlet and they all are happy with this practice of keeping the piggybank. They also kept a different ‘Galla’ (Piggibank) for savings. All in the hamlet has honesty in their character so that none complaints about any stealing of the savings.

પનીબેન #બાવરી(#મારવાડીદેવીપૂજક) ખુબ મહેનતુ અને બાહોશ સ્ત્રી. છેલ્લા આઠ વર્ષથી એમને ઓળખુ પણ કોઈ દિવસ દુઃખના #રોદણા એમના મોઢે સાંભળ્યા નથી. સરકારી કચેરીમાં રેશનકાર્ડ, પ્લોટ કે કાંઈ પણ કામ માટે જવાનું હોય તો કશાય કકળાટ વગર તૈયાર. પરિવારમાં બે દીકરા ને બે દીકરી. ઘરનો આખો કારભાર એ સંભાળે. એમના ઘરવાળાને તો આઠ વર્ષે મે હમણાં જોયા. બાકી ઘર જ જાણે પનીબહેનથી ઓળખાય, ને ચાલે. 

રાંઢવાનો ધઁધો કરવા વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપી. એકવારની લોન ભરાઈ ને બીજીવારેય કાર્યકર હર્ષદે આપી. છાપરાંમાં જ એમનું રહેવાનું. પીવાનું પાણી કે લાઈટની કોઈ સુવિધા ત્યાં નહીં. હમણાં #સુરેન્દ્રનગર ગઈ ત્યારે દૂધરેજ વસાહતમાં જવાનું થયું. પનીબહેનને પુછ્યું કે, ‘લોનથી શું ફાયદો થયો? આ છાપરુ તો એમનું એમ છે એમાં કાંઈ ફેર નથ પડ્યો. તો લોનથી કાંઈ કમાઈને ભેગું કર્યું કે નઈ?’

‘એમ કેમ બોલો સો બેન? લોણથી ઘણોય ફાયદો થ્યો. મારા બે સોકરાંને એક સોકરી મે લોનમાંથી જે ધંધો વધાર્યો એમાંથી જ તો પૈઈણાયા. મારા એક સોકરાંની વહુની ડીલીવરીનો ખર્ચોય એમાંથી જ તો નીકળ્યો. હવે તુલસી (નાની દીકરી)ના લગન હાટુ ભેગા કરુ સુ. એ થઈ જાય પસી ઘર કરવું સે.’

સાંભળીને મોંઢામાંથી વાહ નીકળી જ જાય. પાછો લોનનો #વહીવટ એકદમ ચોખ્ખો. દર મહિને હપ્તો એમની ભાષામાં કહુ તો ટેમ સર આવી જ જાય. પાછો પોતાનો હપ્તો તો ટેમસર આપે આખી વસાહતમાંથી અન્યોએ લીધેલી લોનના હપ્તા પણ ટેમસર ભરાવે. જો કોઈ હપ્તો ના ભરે કે મોડાઈ કરે તો બિચારાનું આવી જ બને. પનીબેનનો કોપ એના માથે ઉતર્યા વગર ના રે. અમારી સંસ્થાનો ભાવ એમના મનમાં જબરજસ્ત ‘અને હર્ષદસાહેબને પેલીવાર કા તમે વસાવટમાં મુક્યા ત્યારે કીધુ કે ઈ નાના સે ઈને હાસવજો. તે પુસી જુઓ ઈમન વસાવટમાં એમને કાંઈ તપલીક પડવા દઉસુ?.’

બેંકમાં જવું ગમે નહીં એટલે બચત ક્યાં મુકવી એ પ્રશ્ન ખરો. પાછુ બધુ હાથ વગુ રાખે એટલે વપરાઈએ જાય. એક મીટીંગમાં મે ગલ્લાનો વિચાર આપેલો કે, દરેકે ઘરમાં ગલ્લો રાખવો. રોજ ધંધામાંથી જે વકરો થાય એમાંથી દાણા પાણી ને ધંધા અર્થે થનાર પ્રવાસ ખર્ચના કાઢી બાકી ગલ્લામાં નાખવાના. ને મહિને એક વાર ગલ્લો ખોલવાનો. એમાંથી લોનનો હપ્તો ભરવાનો ને બાકીના પૈસાનો ફેર #સામાન લાવવાનો. આવું કરશો તો કોઈ દિવસ પાછા નહીં પડાય.

આ વિચાર દૂધરેજ વસાહતના લોકોએ બરાબર અપનાવ્યો ને એટલે એ સુખી થઈ રહ્યા છે. બચતનાય ગલ્લા કર્યા છે.. પાછી આખી વસાહતમાં છે ઈમાનદારી એટલે ગલ્લા ચોરાતા નથી એ ખાસ નોંધવું રહ્યું.

Kashi Ma takes care of her mentally retarded son with the help of VSSM for loan to do business

When I heard name of Kashi, I remembered the famous story of Gujarati literature named ‘Lohini Sagai’. I could connect this Kashi with the character of Kashi in the story. The real life Kashi is taking care of her 35 year mentally retarded son with a great zeal. Kashi Ma’s age is above 65 years. She spends every month nearly Rs. 2,000-2,500 for her son’s medicines. 

I went to visit the Vansfoda hamlet of Hadmatiya at Gir-Somnath, at Rajkot District of Gujarat.  During my visit there, he kept moving around me with his medical file given by the doctor he was consulting for his illness. He is not able to speak but he must be understanding his mother’s feelings about him and there was a sign in his eyes that if someone may help his mother. 

Kashi Ma took an interest free loan of Rs. 20,000 from VSSM to buy Plastic Tubs to do its business. She was going by truck, tractor whatever public transport she got for selling the Tubs around nearby villages. She earns her livelihood by selling those Plastic Tubs only. She also spends for her son’s medicine from the same income and she pays her loan installments too out of it.

I spent two hours there but she neither uttered a word for help nor she complained about her difficult situation. Yes, she expressed that government has given APL ration card and she wanted instead of BPL Ration Card/or Antyodaya Card so that she may get a little relief in her financially tough situation. 

Generally there is an amendment according to Supreme Court’s order, if there is any handicapped member in the family, that family should get an Antyoday Ration card. But sadly Kashi Ma does not have that Antyodaya card. She should get that ideally. 

VSSM Karyakars Kanubhai and Chhayaben have taken up the responsibility to help her get Antyodaya Card. Moreover, ex Sarpanch of Hadmatiya village and others too have promised to cooperate for the same. 

Kashi Ma has a desire to get a plot to make her own house to stay. As villagers are supportive, we too are hopeful that VSSM’s effort will bring results for her. We are also determined to help her get the medicines for her son on a cheaper rate. 

We feel like to bow down to Kashi Ma looking at her tireless efforts to take care to keep existence of her mentally retarded son. 

Really, as it is said in Gujarati, “Ma e Ma, Bija Badha Vagdana Va” feels to be truth when we see mothers like Kashi Ma.

We can see her son with a file behind her in the house where Kashi Ma stays. 

VSSM supports Nomads to recover from Flood destruction...

During July 2017, thousands of family lost their homes and family members during the flood. Their homes, business, farms everything was destroyed. When the flood situation became normal but, life didn’t become normal for the flood affected families. Their hard earned money and the homes they made out of hard earned money destroyed. Flood affected people were broken financially and mentally with the worries of the future. How to start and from where to start? They all were unhappy and crying. Who would come forward to wipe whose tears?

They were fed up eating biscuits and mixtures. This was very painful situation for affected families 

specially related to food requirements. VSSM directly Rs. 45,00,000 Lacs and indirectly offered nearby Rs. 1.5 Crore material to flood affected families. They were offered interest free Rs. 75 lacs loans to restart their business.

They have lost their shelter so started to building their houses. As of now, Total 36 families have received help of Total 16,73,000 to build their houses. Still the work is going on and as you know it is the difficulty generated out of flood. It is not going to come at a normal state overnight! We estimate minimum two years of time to get the things inline.

On January 30, 2018, VSSM organised a programme at Shihori village of Banaskantha District to distribute the cheques of loans to restart the business as well as financial help to re-construct the lost houses during the flood to the flood affected people.

The Kankrej area MLA Mr. Kirtishinhji also remained present in the programme and he promised us to sort out the problems of the Nomadic and De-Notified Tribes of Gujarat. He is a wonderful human being who offered a genuine help to contact him for help even at midnight. He will be with us at any hour of need. We express the heart felt gratitude to Kirtisinhji.

People have a lot of expectation to VSSM. We don’t know how we will meet to the expectations but as our respected Rashminbhai says, “Nature will not give us the work beyond our capacity.” So I feel that we still have capacity and the society is with us! Everything will be possible…

જુલાઈ 2017માં ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં આવેલા પુરમાં હજારો પરિવારો બેહાલ થયા. પૂરના પાણી ઓસર્યા પણ પાણી સાથે આવેલું દુઃખ જરાય ઓછુ ના થયું. ક્યાંક માંડ માંડ પુંજી ભેગી કરીને બનાવેલા ઘરો સાવ જમીનદોસ્ત થઈ ગયા તો ક્યાંય જેના ઉપર રોજી રળતા તે સાધનો તણાઈ ગયા કે પડી ભાંગ્યા. લોકો માનસીક રીતે સાવ પડી ભાંગ્યા. બધાનીએ દશા ખરાબ આમાં કોણ કોના આંસુ લુછે?

‘ખાવા આપો. બિસ્કીટ, ચવાણું નથી ભાવતું’ ની રાડ ઊઠી ને રુપિયા 45,000,00નો સામાન VSSM દ્વારા સીધો ને આડકતરી રીતે લગભગ દોઢ કરોડનો સામાન અસરગ્રસ્તોમાં પહોંચતો કર્યો.

ધંધા ફેર બેઠા કરવા રૃપિયા 75 લાખ વગર વ્યાજવા આપ્યા. 

ને હવે જેમના માથેથી પાકી છત જતી રહી છે તેમના ઘર બાંધવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. આજ સુધી 36 પરિવારોને 16,73,000ની ઘર બાંધકામમાં સહાય કરી ને હજુ આ કામ આગળ ધપ્યા કરે છે.આ તો પુરની થપાટ. એમ કાંઈ થોડા બેઠા થવાય. કાંઈ કેટલા હાથ મદદ માટે ભેગા થશે ત્યારે જતા આ બધુ એકાદ બે વર્ષે થાળે પડશે. 

તા.30જાન્યુઆરી 2017માં #બનાસકાંઠાના શિહોરી મુકામે પુરઅસરગ્રસ્ત પરિવારોને નવા ધંધા માટે લોન આપવાનું તથા #ઘર બાંધકામ માટે #આર્થિક સહાયનો ચેક વિતરણ કાર્યક્રમ આયોજીત કર્યો.

કાંકરેજ વિસ્તારના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી કીર્તીસીંહજી પણ આ કાર્યક્રમમાં ઉપસ્થિત રહ્યા ને #વિચરતી જાતિના પ્રશ્ને આપણી સાથે ઊભા રહવાનું #વચન આપ્યું. અદભૂત માણસ. જરાય મોટાઈ નહીં અડધી રાતે જરૃર પડે આવજોની વાત તેમણે કરી. તેમના પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા. 

લોકોની અપેક્ષાઓ ખુબ છે ખબર નહીં બધે પહોંચાશે કે કેમ? પણ આદરણીય રશ્મીનભાઈ સંઘવી કહે છે એમ, ‘કુદરત તને તારા ગજા બહારનું કામ નહીં આપે’ એટલે એમ થાય છે કે હજુ ગજુ છે ને સમાજ સાથે છે એટલે બધુયે થશે...

“You gave Rs. 50,000/- for Buffalo and I brought Buffalo. I deposited Buffalo milk at Dairy and saved Rs. 40,000/-. I borrowed Rs. 90,000/- on interest from the village and added to that Rs. 40,000/- and brought pregnant cow. I thought that when cow will give birth to calf, I would sell its milk and my expenses will run in that way slowly but unfortunately my cow gave birth to a calf and something happened to it. It died. Its calf also died without it. I am working too hard ben (madam) but in this flood, everything drowned. Even a spoon drown from my house. The house I built in farm and Bena, both drown and destroyed. Almost Rs. 7 Lacs furniture and other things of my house drowned in the flood. I and my nephew decided to build a new bore-well for farming and we brought the material for it. The ring for bore well had to come on the next day but the God had put such a ring in our lives that our dreams too drowned in the flood. We don’t understand that what God has decided to do! We come on a life track with hard work at a longer time and one such natural disaster destroys it. It was Naranbhai who gave us a little hope to call you to ask for help.” Said Lalabhai Raval from the Umri village Kankrej area of Banaskantha District who met me during the Flood Rehabilitation help distribution programme. He said everything was OK at that time but after two days when he called, the story was painful. I felt that he is broken emotionally and financially.

Almost about Rs. two to three lacs material to build bore-well drown during the flood. We hardly found some of the things out of the things were collected for bore-well but where to found the land we actually had earlier? 

Banas River drowned the land of Lalabhai and other many families of the Umri village. Land evasion was about more than 5 feet in the flood. The land would not be again the way it was even after spending 1000 of rupees to work up on it. Banas River had almost snatched away that land.

Lalabhai and his uncle thought to saw some land and do farming on the rest small land and borrowed the amount of Rs. Two Lacs on interest and made a bore-well using the remaining material to build bore-well. Land was small so there was only option they had was to do Livestock Breeding felt Lalabhai. In the midst of it, the dream of selling the milk of new cow was died with the cow. He dreamed of to pay all the borrowed money on interest for farming or the installments of the loan taken to buy the Tractor. How many dreams had been seen on the bases of that Cow but nature doesn’t allow to do as decided. Nature had decided something else for Lalabhai and Lalabhai had almost lost his courage to do anything.

“What should I do ben?” his voice was expressing his broken heart condition. He wanted to ask for help but he could not speak it for a longer time. I too could not understand that how to help for it but it was sure to help him in my mind. Then he uttered, “We don’t want for free but help us by giving loan but save us.” 

I pray that Nature may not put someone in such a helpless situation. The photos are the proof of the land evasion and the way he had lost his house in the flood. He took us to show the “Nature’s Anger” leading in to his Tractor. I am just sharing it to make you all understand the pain he is passing through…” 

‘તમે પચા હજાર ભેંસ બલ્લે આલ્યા અન મુ ભેંસ લાયો. ભેંસનું દૂધ ડેરીમોં ભરાઈન ચાલી હજાર ભેગા કર્યા ઈમોં નવું હજાર ગોમમાંથી ઉસીના લઈન અંબોર્યા અન અઠવાડિયા મોર ગાભણી ગાય લાયો. હતું ક ગાય વિઆસે એટલ ઈનું દૂધ ડેરીમોં ભરાઈસ અન ધેમ ધેમ ગાડુ હેડ્યા કરસે પણ જુઓન કાલ ગાય વિઆઈ અન ઈન કોકો થઈ જ્યું ક ઓખના પલકારામોં જ એ મરી જઈ. મા વિનાની રેલ્લીએ બચારી આજ મરી જઈ. ખુબ મેનત કરુ સુ બેન પણ આ પુરમોં મારુ બધુએ તણઈ જ્યું. ઘરમોંથી ચમચી શીખે તણઈ જઈ. ખેતરમાં બોંધેલું ઘર ન બેણામોં બોધેલું ઘર હતું નતું થઈ જ્યું. સાતેક લાખની ઘરવખરી તણઈ જઈ હશે! સેતી(ખેતી) માટે નવો બોર કરવાનું અમે કાકા ભત્રીજાએ નક્કી કર્યું અન ઈનો સોમોનેય લાયા. હજુ કાલ તો બોર બલ્લે રીંગ આબ્બાનીતી પણ ઈની પેલા ભગવોને એવી રીંગ મેલી ક બોર બનાબ્બાની વારી જ ના આઈ. ભગવોન શું કરવા બેઠો હ કોય હમજાતું નહીં. મોડ ઊભા થવાય ઈમ લાગ ક પાસી થપાટ મારી દે હ. નારણભઈ(VSSMના કાર્યકર)હારે તમન વાત કરવા વાત કરી ન ઈમને થોડી હેમત આલી એટલે ફોન જોડ્યો.’

#કાંકરેજના ઉમરીગામના રહેવાસી લાલાભાઈ #રાવળ બે દિવસ પહેલાં કાર્યક્રમમાં મળ્યા ત્યારે બધુ બરાબર ચાલે છે એમ કહીને હરખ વ્યક્ત કર્યો હતો ને આજે એમના ફોનથી એ મનથી ભાંગી પડ્યા હોય એવું લાગ્યું.

બોર બનાવવા માટે લાવેલો રૃપિયા બે થી ત્રણ લાખનો સામાન #બનાસકાંઠામાં આવેલા 2017ના પુરમાં તણાઈ ગ્યો. માંડ માંડ અમુક વસ્તુ જડી. પણ પહેલાં હતી એટલી જમીન હવે ક્યાં રહી હતી? લાલાભાઈ અને ઊમરીમાં રહેતા ઘણાય પરિવારોની જમીનને બનાસે પોતાના ભેગી ભેળવી લીધી હતી. એક માથોડા કરતા વધુ જમીન ધોવાઈ હતી. આ જમીન હજારો ખર્ચતાય પહેલાં જેવી થવાની નહોતી. બનાસ કુવારિકાએ આ જમીન માંગ્યા વગર જ છીનવી લીધી.

બાકી બચેલી નાની સી જમીન પર ખેતી કરવા લાલાભાઈ, તેમના કાકા ને અન્યોએ રૃપિયા બે લાખ વ્યાજવા લાવી બચેલા સામાનનો ઉપયોગ કરીને બોરવેલ બનાવ્યો. જમીન ટૂંકી રહી હવે તો #પશુપાલનનો એક જ આશરો લાલાભાઈને જણાતો હતો. ત્યાં નવી લાવેલી ગાય જેનું દૂધ ભરાવી બીજી ગાય લાવવાના ઓરતા રાખ્યા હતા એ ગાય જ હવે રહી નહોતી. આ ગાયના દૂધમાંથી જ તો બોરવેલ માટે વ્યાજવા લીધેલા #પૈસા ને ખેતી માટે લીધેલા #ટ્રેક્ટરના હપ્તા ભરવાના હતા. કેટ કેટલા સમણાં જોયા હતા. હપ્તા ભરશું , બચત કરીશું ને બીજી ગાયો કરીશું. પણ ધારેલું એમ કાંઈ કુદરત પાર પડવા દે? જુઓ કુદરતે ફરી એક વાર પોતાનું ધાર્યું કર્યું ને લાલાભાઈની હામ તોડી દીધી.

‘બેન શું કરુ?’ અવાજથી એ ભાંગી પડેલા જણાયા... મદદ માંગવી હતી પણ ક્યાંય સુધી એ માટે એ બોલી પણ ના શક્યા. સમજાતું નથી કેમ મદદ કરીશું પણ મદદ કરવી એ તો નક્કી. મફત નથી જોઈતું લોન આપો. પણ હવે ઊગારજો...’

કુદરત આવા #લાચાર કોઈને ના બનાવ એવું પ્રાર્થું...

લાલાભાઈના બેય ઘરના જે હાલ થયા તે અને #જમીન કેટલી ધોવાઈ એ બધુ જ ફોટોમાં જણાય છે. કુદરતે કેવો કેર કર્યો તે જોવા ટ્રેક્ટરમાં બેસાડીને તેઓ લઈ ગયા તે બધુ જ સમજવા ખાતર અહીંયા મુક્યુ છે...

Mittal Patel at Vishalbhai Bhavaya's Mobile Shop

“Ben, one of our loan borrower has started a Mobile shop at Chotila at Surendranagar District. Let’s meet him.” Said Harshad and took me to the shop of Vishalbhai Bhavaya(Vaghela)’s shop. He is the worshipper of Mahakali Devi so his family gave the shop’s name “New Mahakali Mobile Shop”. Even poor can buy the mobiles from his shop because he has kept the collection of good quality mobiles with cheaper prize in his shop. 

He expressed happiness to see us and offered tea or cold drink.

Vishalbhai Bhavaya explained about the products he is
selling in his shop.

We asked, “first tell us, how your business is going on? Rest later on…”

Vishalbhai said, “very good now.” I took that loan of Rs. 30,000, which I used for my business of selling cloths.  I used to move around the villages and sell some cloths. That was not much profitable business. I had little bit skill about mobile repairing. I could not re-pay the loan I took so I was feeling shy to ask for another loan but Harshadbhai said, “We see your hard work and that inspires us to give you another loan because you have an attitude to re-pay it. Please don’t worry.”

That gave me courage to ask for another loan of Rs. 50,000/-. Thanks to VSSM that my loan was approved and I could start this new business of Mobile phones. 

We too expressed happiness for his progress. 

Vishalbhai explained about the products he is selling in his shop. 

I asked, “ Bhavai Artists like to play Bhavai, don’t you want to play Bhavai?” 

Vishalbhai replied, “I like to play Bhavai too much but others are not interested and there is no earning in doing that nowadays. May play in future if everything is ok.”

He took us to one Kathiyavadi hotel and hosted us the excellent food. 

If our request to government to open the Bhavai School for Bhavai Artist, becomes successful, there is no doubt about getting the learned Bhavai Artists for it. 

Our motto of giving interest free loans make us feel successful whenever we see the people like Vishalbhai. Vishalbhai is happy mentally but we wish his wishes to earn more and have worldly comforts may get fulfilled by his hard work.

‘બેન આપણા એક લોનધારકે ચોટીલામાં મોબાઈલની દુકાન કરી છે. એમને મળીએ?’ આવું કહીને હર્ષદ વિશાલભાઈ ભવાયા(વાઘેલા)ની દુકાને લઈ ગયા. મહાકાળી માને પુજનાર વિશાલભાઈના પરિવારે દુકાનનું નામ પણ ‘ન્યુ મહાકાળી મોબાઈલ શોપ’ આપ્યું હતું. ગરીબ પણ ખરીદી શકે તેટલી કિંમતના અફલાતૂન મોબાઈલ વિશાલભાઈની દુકાનમાં મળે.

અમને જોઈને એ રાજી થઈ ગયા. ‘બેન ચા- ઠંડુ શું મંગાવું.’

‘ધંધો કેવો ચાલે છે એ ક્યો બાકી બધુ પછી.’

‘હવે ખુબ હારુ. મે પેલી લોન તીસ હજારની લીધીને કપડાંની ફેરી ગામડાંમાં કરતો પણ ઈનાથી બહુ ફાયદો નો થ્યો. મોબાઈલમાં થોડી આવડત હતી. પેલી લોનના હપ્તાય ટેમસર નોતા ભરાતા એટલે બીજી લોન માંગવામાં થોડી શરમેય લાગી. પણ હર્ષદેભાઈ કહ્યું, તમારી ધગશ સે ને લોન ભરવાની દાનતેય સે. ચિંતા કરો મા આપીશું. ને બીજા પચાસ મળ્યા એમાંથી દુકાન ભાડે લીધી. મહિને ભાડાનો ને બીજો ખર્ચ કાઢતા આઠ થી દસ હજાર મળે છે.’

‘વાહ રાજી. ચા નથી પીવી પણ તમારી પ્રગતિથી આનંદ.’

એ પછી વિશાલભાઈએ જે વસ્તુઓ વેચે છે તે બધી બતાવી. 

‘ભવાયાને ભવાઈ ગમે તમને ભવાઈ નથી કરવી?’

‘મને તો ભવાઈ ખુબ ગમે પણ બીજાને રસ નથી, મળતરેય બહુ નથી પણ ભવિષ્યમાં ઠીક રે તો ભજવીશું.’

પછી તો વિશાલભાઈએ સરસ હોટલમાં અમને - તમને પણ ઈર્ષા આવે એવું કાઠીયાવાડી જમાડ્યું. ભવિષ્યમાં ભવાયા માટે ભવાઈ શાળા થાય તે માટે સરકારમાં કરેલી રજૂઆતો સફળ થાય તો ભવાયા સમાજમાંથી જ અદભૂત કલાકારો આપણને મળવાના એમાં કોઈ શંકા નહીં. 

વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપવાનું VSSMનું કાર્ય આવા લોકોને બેઠા થયેલા જોઈને સફળ થયાનું લાગે. 

માનસીક રીતે વિશાલભાઈ સુખી છે પણ ભૌતિક સુખ કમાવવાની તેમની ઈચ્છા પરિપૂર્ણ થાય તેવી પ્રાર્થના ને આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરનાર સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા.

Mittal Patel visits meets devipujak families at Patniodha

Devastation was all one could see as far as the sight stretched. And Patniodha, a small hamlet of Khariya village was not spared. The domesticated animals that were ties to the poles drowned to death, the vast expanses of farm land were all dredged with sand rendering them absolutely useless. The pain and cries were all you could here. The region seemed like reeling under some curse. 

VSSM initated relief and rehabilitation efforts in the region and visits to Patniodha became quite frequent.  The Devipujak families were helped to re-establish their livelihoods. The interest fee loans provided to them by VSSM were utilized to buy buffalo. The milk was sold to the local dairy while they worked to repair their land.

 “Ben, we have bought the buffaloes, come and have a cup of tea with us,” the invites kept pouring in whenever I was in Patniodha. Gradually, the families were inching towards normalcy. They had repaired their land and were framing again. The cattle helped supplementing their income. “if you hadn’t helped it would have been very difficult to start afresh!!” most of them would tell me.

 On the hind side, who are we to rebuild their lives? Nature takes its own course. If it destructs it does restore. It was you all, our guardian angels and well-wishers who chose to stand besides VSSM during such exceptional times of need. Look at the way the communities are smiling now! The priceless joy we get to experience every single day. All thanks to you.

 Apparently, a lot of families have lost their homes and with their economic condition it is next to impossible for them to rebuild their houses. They need our goodwill and support. We have decided to extend support of Rs. 50,000/- to each family and help them reconstruct their houses. We are sure our friends and well-wishers will choose to stand by us once again.

Well, a saucer full of tea was mandatory when the invites are so warm and overwhelming!! Of course, we had to meet and say hello to the buffaloes as well 

પટણીઓઢા #ખારિયા ગામનું પરુ. 2017માં આવેલા પુરે આ ગામનું ધનોતપનોત કાઢી નાખેલું. ખીલે બંધાયેલા ઢોર એમ જ પાણીમાં ગુગળાઈને મૃત્યુ પામેલા. ખેતીની જમીન પર રેત પથરાઈ ગયેલી. ચારેબાજુ નવરી રોક્કડ. જાણે આખો વિસ્તાર શાપીત. 

પટણીઓઢા એ પછી તો વારંવાર જવાનું થયું. પુર પ્રભાવીત દેવીપૂજકોને બેઠા કરવા વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપીને એ લોકો ભેંસો લાવ્યા. ભેંસનું #દુધ #ડેરીમાં ભરાવી આવક રળતા થયા. 

‘બેન ભેંસ લાય ઈના દૂધની ચા પીવા આવજો.’ એવું આમંત્રણ પણ આપેલુંને આજે ત્યાં જવાનું થયું. કુદરતની થપાટ ઝીલી આ પરિવારો ફેર બેઠા થયા. ખેતી ફેર લહેરાતી થઈ ગઈ. ઘરના આંગણે ફેર #ઢોર બંધાયા. ‘તમે મદદ ના કરી આલી હોત તો ઓમ ઝટ બેઠા ના થવાત’ એવી લાગણી સૌએ વ્યકત કરી. 

જો કે બેઠા કરવાવાળા અમે કોણ? કુદરત પોતે જ દરેક જીવની દરકાર કરે ને એટલે જ VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સૌ શુભચિંતકો આવા #અસરગ્રસ્તોની પડખે ઊભા રહ્યા ને આમ જુઓ આજે એમના મોંઢા પર સરસ હાસ્ય છે...

આભાર મદદરૃપ થનાર સૌનો...

જો કે ઘણા પરિવારોના ઘરો પડી ભાંગ્યા છે. તેમની #આર્થિક હાલત ઘર ફેર બાંધી શકવાની નથી. બસ તેમને મદદરૃપ થવાનું છે. એક પરિવારને રૃા.50,000ની આર્થિક સહાય ઘર બાંધકામમાં કરીશું. સમાજ મદદ કરશે તેવી આશા પણ છે.

ચા તો પીવાની જ હતી ને લીધેલી ભેંસો પણ આ પરિવારોએ હોંશથી બતાવી તે અમે તમનેય બતાવીએ...
