I have known Dharunath since his childhood. His father Babanath Vadi was a magician and skilled snake charmer. After a long and bitter struggle the Vadee’s residing near Rajkot’s Parevda were allotted land to build houses. VSSM also played a crucial role in this struggle. After the Wild Life Act came into existence the Vadi-Madari have been rendered jobless. The governments haven’t designed any initiatives to rehabilitate them after the collapse of their livelihoods. Even for the Vadee community of Gujarat earning for a square meal is a challenge. As a result most of them now beg as a mode of earning to sustain their families. 

VSSM has been striving to ensure that at least these families stop begging and pick up some kind of work to earn their living. However, no one from this stigmatised community is prepared to take any loan even if we want to offer them. The fear they carry is, ‘what if we cannot repay the loan, who is going to trust us further?” Hence, they simple avoid venture into starting any kind of small enterprise. 

VSSM’s Kanubhai convinced Dharunath to take a Rs. 5000 loan and start a small kiosk in his settlement. He remained hesitant and refused a lot but we insisted. “What if the kiosk does not succeed and I am unable to pay the loan?”

“Don’t worry if it fails we will pay the loan, but this about starting first, worry about everything else later,” we insisted.

We forced Dharunath into starting the kiosk for which we loaned him Rs. 5000.

It has been few months, the kiosk is doing well and Dharunath is repaying the instalments regularly.

We decided to honour Dharunath for his willingness to start a venture and the bold move he made inspite his own internal resistance. And we did honour him during the program organised on March 25th 2019.

“Ben, these four people are my relatives. They too want to start their business. Will you provide them some loan?” Dharunath inquired as he met me before the event.

I was delighted to hear this, his question was music to my ears.

Atleast now the Vadee has given it a thought. These community are very good at selling their ideas and they can be mentored in such a way. We are working in this direction. Hopefully someday we are able to launch this new breed of salesmen.

We are grateful to all who have supported the cause making individuals like Dharunath economically independent.

એના બાપા બાબાનાથ બહુ અચ્છા જાદુગર અને સાપને રમાડનારા.

રાજકોટ પાસેના પારેવડામાં ઘણા સંઘર્ષ પછી #વાદી પરિવારોને જમીન મળેલી. આ સંઘર્ષમાં અમે પણ નિમિત્ત બનેલા.

સાપના ખેલ કરવા પર પ્રતિબંધ આવ્યા પછી વાદી- #મદારી સાવ #બેરોજગાર થઈ ગયા. પેટિયું કેમનું રળવું એ પ્રશ્ન આજે ગુજરાતના તમામ વાદી- મદારી ભોગવી રહ્યા છે.

ભીક્ષાવૃતિ થકી આજે આ સમાજના મોટાભાગના નભી રહ્યા છે. 

આવા આ વાદી પરિવારો પોતાની રીતે નાનો મોટો વ્યવસાય કરતા થાય તે માટે અમે ઘણી મહેનત કરી પણ અન્યોની નજરમાં ખરાબ છાપ ધરાવતા આ સમાજના એકેય વ્યક્તિ લોન લેવા માટે તૈયાર નહીં. 

લોન લઈશું ને નહીં ભરાય તો? એ ભયના લીધે લોન લેવાનું ટાળે.

અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈએ ધારુનાથને 5000ની લોન લઈને વસાહતમાં ગલ્લો નાખવા માટે તૈયાર કર્યો. ધારુનાથે ઘણી આનાકાની કરી. ગલ્લો નહીં ચાલે તો હું પૈસા ક્યાંથી ભરીશ એવા પ્રશ્નો પણ કર્યો. 

પણ અમે કહ્યું નહીં ચાલે તો અમે ભરીશું પણ એક વખત તું ધંધો કરવાનું વિચાર.

જબરજસ્તીથી ધારુનાથને 5000 આપીને ગલ્લા માટેનો સામાન લેવડાવ્યો ને ગલ્લો શરૃ કરાવ્યો. 

આ વાતને થોડા મહિના થયા. ધારુનાથનો ગલ્લો બરાબર ચાલવા માંડ્યો ને હપ્તા પણ નિયમિત ભરાવવા માંડ્યા.

#વિચરતા સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચમાંથી લોન લઈને આર્થિક રીતે સદ્ધર થયેલા લોનધારકોનો સન્માન સમારોહ તા.25 માર્ચ 2019ના રોજ રાખ્યો હતો. 

ધારુનાથે જીગર કરીને ગલ્લો કર્યો માટે એનું સન્માન કરવાનું હતું. 

સન્માન પહેલાં ધારુનાથ મળ્યો અને કહ્યું બેન, 'આ ચાર જણા મારા સંબંધી થાય. આમનેય ધંધો કરવો છે તમે લોન આપશો?'

સાંભળીને રાજી થવાયું. 

ચાલો વાદી- મદારીએ પહેલ કરી. એ લોકો ખુબ સરસ સેલ્સમેન બને એવા છે. અમારે એ દિશામાં એમને વાળવા રહ્યા...

લોકોને પગભર કરવા માટે મદદ કરનાર સૌનો હૃદયપૂર્વક આભાર....

ધારુનાથની #પારેવડા વસાહત ફોટોમાં દેખાય છે જોકે હવે ત્યાં કેટલાક ઘરો પાકા થયા છે. બાકી વસાહતની તંબુશાળામાં ભણતો ધારુનાથ જે હવે મોટો થઈ ગયો છે તે ગલ્લા સાથે અને કાર્યક્રમમાં સન્માન લઈ રહ્યો છે.
