Pravinbhai Raval worked with a tea stall in God village of Banaskantha’s Palanpur block. 5 years of job at the same tea stall and his salary had not gone beyond Rs. 1500 per month. Surviving on such meagre income was absolutely impossible but he had no options. His wife worked as a daily labour but even the combined income was not enough to support the entire family. The financial crunch was nerve wrecking for the couple. The consistent price rise and absence of any other options has compelled Pravinbhai to continue with the job. A job he excelled at. His tea was terrific and very popular with the patrons but this was not something the owner of the stall understood.
Pravinbhai happen to meet Pareshbhai, a VSSM team member during a community association meeting of Raval community. As we have written about this before VSSM is in process of forming and reforming the community associations. The Raval community association is a very association amongst these. Pravinbhai and Pareshbhai began talking. Pravinbhai narrated his plight and daily struggle. He recommended Pareshbhai to start tea stall in Vadgaum saying it will make a brisk business. This suggestion triggered another idea in Paresh’s mind. ‘I don’t want to start any tea stall, but if you desire to start your own tea stall VSSM will provide you all the necessary support,’ suggested Pareshbhai to Pravinbhai. Hearing this his happiness knew no bounds, Pravinbhai was absolutely delighted with the sprouting of such new prospects. ‘ I will contact you once I find suitable place in Vadgaum,’ he told Pareshbhai. After a few days Pareshbhai received a call from Pravinbhai saying that it is difficult to find a place in Vadgaum as the cost is very high. He sounded very depressed. Later, Pareshbhai moved with him in Vadgaum to scout for a suitable place but the cost was too high, ultimately Paresh suggested to setup a tea stall in the village where costs are affordable. Once Pravinbhai made sure that it was ok for his boss he decided to set up a tea stall near the bus stand in God village itself.
After a few weeks when we met Pravinbhai, the joy and happiness radiated from his face, there was no need for him to talk!! ‘Everyday I do a business of around Rs. 700 and make a profit of Rs. 200-250. The person I worked for did not value my work, he felt it was he who ran the show but after I quit his earnings have gone down. I have no complains against him, it was he who taught me to make tea and how to run a tea stall. I wish him all the best. I am my own boss now. Earlier getting a single leave was difficult now i can go to attend social functions at ease. I am grateful to the organisation for believing in me and lending me Rs. 20,000. From Rs. 1500 I have began earning 6000 to 6500..
આજે હું રૂ.૧૫૦૦ માંથી રૂ.૬૦૦૦ થી રૂ.૬,૫૦૦ કમાતો થઇ ગયો છું.
રાવળ પ્રવીણભાઈ છેલ્લાં પાંચ વર્ષથી બનાસકાંઠાના પાલનપુર તાલુકાના ગોળાગામમાં ચાની હોટલમાં માસિક રૂ.૧,૦૦૦થી નોકરી કરતાં. થોડાં સમય પહેલાં મોંઘવારીને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને એમનો પગાર રૂ.૧૫૦૦ કરવામાં આવેલો પણ આટલી રકમથી શું થાય. આ બધા પરિતાપથી તેઓ માનસિક રીતે થાકી ગયા હતાં. શું કરવું એ સૂઝતું નહોતું અને વળી બીજો વિકલ્પ પણ દેખાતો નહોતો એટલે પરાણે મન માનવીને આ કામ કરી રહ્યા હતાં. વળી પાછી પ્રવીણે બનાવેલી ચા તો ચા પીનાર સૌ કોઈ વખાણે પણ એમનો પગાર વધારો થતો નહોતો. વળી ઘરની જવાબદારી પણ ખરી. એમની પત્ની છૂટક મજૂરી કરે એટલે જીવન ચાલ્યા કરે પણ આ રીતે બહુ લાંબુ ના ચલાય એવું પ્રવીણને સતત લાગ્યા કરે પણ બીજો રસ્તો સૂઝતો નહોતો.
વિચરતી જાતિના યુવા સંગઠનો હવે નિર્મિત થઇ રહ્યા છે. રાવળ સમાજ એમાં ખુબ સક્રિય રીતે આગળ વધી રહ્યો છે. રાવળ સમાજના આવા જ એક યુવા સંગઠનની બેઠકમાં vssmના કાર્યકર પરેશ સાથે પ્રવીણની મુલાકાત થઇ. પરેશે પ્રવીણના હાલ-ચલ પૂછ્યા. પ્રવીણ ખુબ નિરાશ હતો એણે કહ્યું, ‘ચાની હોટલમાં કામ કરું છું પણ પગાર ખુબ ઓછો છે. પોસાતું નથી.’ થોડીવાર બંને ચૂપ રહ્યા પછી પ્રવીણે પરેશને કહ્યું, ‘પરેશ તમે વડગામમાં ચાની હોટલ કરો.. ખુબ સારી ચાલશે.’ પ્રવીણની આ વાતમાંથી પરશે હોટલ સારી ચાલશે એ વિગત પકડી અને પ્રવીણને કહ્યું, ‘મારે હોટલ નથી કરવી પણ તું તારી સ્વતંત્ર હોટલ કરવાં માંગતો હોય તો vssm તને મદદ કરશે.’ પ્રવિણ આ વાતથી ખુબ ખુશ થયો. સાથે સાથે વડગામમાં હોટલ માટેની જગ્યા શોધીને લોન માટે કહીશ એમ કહ્યું.’ આ વાતના થોડા દિવસમાં પ્રવિણે પરેશને ફોને કરીને વડગામમાં જગ્યા ખુબ મોંઘી મળે છે નહી પોસાય એવી વાત કરી. એ ખુબ નિરાશ હતો. પરેશ એની સાથે વડગામમાં બધે ફર્યો પણ ખરે ખર જગ્યાના ભાવ ખુબ હતાં. છેવટે પરેશે એને શહેર છોડી ગામમાં એટલે કે ગોળાગામમાં જ હોટલ કરવાં કહ્યું. પ્રવિણ જે ભાઈના ત્યાં નોકરી કરતો હતો તેમને તકલીફ નહિ થાય એ જોઇને આ બાબતમાં આગળ વધવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. પરેશ અને પ્રવિણ બંને ગોળાગામમાં ખુબ ફર્યા અને બસ સ્ટેન્ડની બાજુમાં જ હોટલ કરવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો અને હોટલ શરુ થઇ ગઈ.
હોટેલ કેવી ચાલે છે એ વિગતો મેળવવા પરેશ ગોળાગામ ગયો. પ્રવિણના ચહેરા પર આનંદ હતો. રોજ રૂ.૭૦૦ આસપાસનો ધંધો થાય છે જેમાંથી ખર્ચ કાઢતાં રૂ.૨૦૦ થી ૨૫૦ પ્રવિણને મળવા લાગ્યા છે. પ્રવિણ કહે છે, ‘હું જેમની હોટલમાં કામ કરતો હતો એમને મારી કદર નહોતી એમને એમ હતું કે, બધું એમનાથી જ ચાલે છે પણ મારા ગયા પછી એમનો વકરો ઘટી ગયો છે. પણ મને એમના માટે કોઈ રોષ નથી એમણે મને તક આપી એટલે હું ચા બનાવતાં અને હોટલ ચલાવતાં શીખ્યો. એમની હોટલ પણ સારી ચાલે એવું હું ઈચ્છું છું. હવે હું સામાજિક પ્રસંગોમાં પણ આરામથી જઈ શકું છું પહેલાં એક રજા જોઈતી હોય તો પણ મળવી મુશ્કેલ હતી. હવે હું સ્વતંત્ર છું. સંસ્થા એ મારા પર ભરોષો બતાવ્યો અને મને રૂ.૨૦,૦૦૦ ની લોન આપી જેના કારણે જ આજે હું રૂ.૧૫૦૦ માંથી રૂ.૬૦૦૦ થી રૂ.૬,૫૦૦ કમાતો થઇ ગયો છું.’
