Magnanimity is an outcome of compassion, not riches!

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet Kokilaben from Pilucha village, which runs a roadside dhaba. Earlier, her husband operated this roadside eatery, but following his death, the responsibility of running the business and fending for the family fell upon Kokilaben. “What will society say if I run the dhaba?”Kokilaben had her apprehensions. But Akbarbhai, her sworn brother, encouraged her to work on it, and she brought along her widowed Bhabhi to help her manage the hotel.

VSSM provided a loan to fund purchases of charpoy, large cooking pots, and pans and build a shade to cover some space. As a result, Kokilaben has created a more prominent hotel than the one her husband operated. The loan has helped her widen the scope of the operations.

And while running the hotel, Kokilaben ensures every poor and hungry individual leaves the premises with food. Every day, 10-12 hungry people are fed free meals at her hotel.

It did come as a surprise when Akbarbhai shared this with me. The urban families count the amount of rotis they make, not because they are concerned about food waste but because they do not wish to feed the hungry. But, while here, Kokilaben generously shares food with strangers she does not know.

A visually impaired kaka walked in when we were having lunch at Kokilaben’s hotel. Kokilaben especially gets someone to go and escort Kaka to the hotel so that he can have his meals and also spends on his salon and tobacco costs.

This might surprise you as it did to me.

“I am gathering balance for my Karma account up there!” Kokilaben replied to my question on why she did what she did. Amazing, right?

We worry about the account balance in our bank while Kokilaben is working to build credit with the almighty up there.

Akbarbhai, her brother by faith, has been her biggest strength. But, as they say, compassion and goodwill have no religion.

We wish Kokilaben success and happiness always. Individuals like Kokilaben make our day.

દાન ધરમ કરવા પૈસાદાર હોવું જરૃરી નહીં પણ જીગર હોવી જરૃરી.

હમણાં વડગામના પિલુચાના કોકીલાબેનને મળવાનું થયું. એ રોડ બાજુ ઢાબુ(હોટલ) ચલાવે. આમ તો એમના પતિ હોટલ ચલાવતા પણ એ ગુજરી ગયા પછી પરિવારની જવાબદારી માથે આવી. બહેન હોટલ ચલાવે તો કેવું લાગે એ પ્રશ્ન થયો. પણ એમણે ધરમના માનેલા અકબરભાઈએ એમને હિંમત આપી અને એ એમના ભાભી જે પણ એકલા જ હતા તેમને હોટેલ ચલાવવા પોતાની પાસે લઈ આવ્યા.

અમે હોટેલમાં લોકો સહુલિયતથી જમીન શકે તે માટે ખાટલા, મોટા વાસણ ખરીદવા તેમજ પતરાનો શેડ કરવા એમને લોન આપી. એમના પતિ જેવડી હોટલ ચલાવતા એમના કરતા કોકીલાબહેને મોટી હોટલ કરી. ટૂંકમાં અમે લોન આપી એમાંથી એમણે હોટલનો વ્યાપ વધાર્યો. 

આ બધુ તો ઠીક પણ સૌથી અગત્યનું હતું. કોકીલાબેનની હોટલ પર કોઈ દીન દુખિયું આવી ચડે ને પાસે પૈસા ન હોય અથવા ભાણાના થાય એટલા પૈસા ન હોય તો કોકીલાબેન એને ખવડાવવાની ના ન પાડે. અલબત રોજના દસેક લોકો તો એમનમ જમી જ જાય.

જ્યારે એમની આ વાત મને અકબરભાઈએ કરી ત્યારે ભારે નવાઈ લાગી. શહેરોમાં તો લોકો રોટલીઓ ગણીને કરે. બગાડ સંદર્ભે આવું કરે તો બરાબર પણ કોઈને ખવડાવવામાંય કંજુસાઈ કરતા માણસો જોયા છે. ત્યારે આર્થિક રીતે એવી સમૃદ્ધી નહીં છતાં કોકીલાબેન આ દરિયાદીલી દાખવે. નવાઈ તો લાગે જ ને..

અમે કોકીલાબેનની હોટલ પર જમ્યા. એ વખતે એક સૂરદાસ કાકા આવ્યા. કોકીલાબેન રોજ કોઈને મોકલી કાકાને ખાસ બોલાવીને જમાડે. અલબત કાકાને દાઢી કરવાના, વાળ કપાવવાના અરે બુધાલાલ તમાકુની કાકાને આદત તે એ ખાવાના પૈસાય કોકીલાબેન આપે..

આ બધુ સાંભળીને નવાઈ લાગીને? મને પણ લાગી. કોકીલાબેન આવી દીલેરી ક્યાંથી? અથવા કેમ? એવું પુછ્યું તો એમણે કહ્યું. 

"દોન ધરમ કરીએ તો ઉપર થોડું થોડુ લખાય ક...."

કેવી અદભૂત વાત..

અહીંના બેંક બેલેન્સની તો આપણે ચિંતા કરીએ જ પણ કોકીલાબેન તો ઉપરવાળાના ત્યાંનું બેંક બેલેન્સ જમા કરી રહ્યા છે.

સાથે અકબરભાઈ એમના ધરમના ભાઈ પણ એ એમને ગજબ હિંમત આપે.. સબસે ઊંચી પ્રેમ સગાઈ આ વાત પણ એકદમ સાચી..

કોકીલાબેન ખુબ સુખી થાય એવી શુભભાવના.. પણ આવા સ્વજનોને મળીને દિવસ બની જાય એવું થાય...

અમારા કાર્યકર પરેશની આ શોધ. કોકીલાબેનને મદદની જરૃર છે એવી એને ખબર પડી ને એણે કોકીલાબેનને ટેકો કરવા અમને કહ્યું.

આમ તો બધુ ગોઠવાયેલું જ હશે પરેશ ને અમે સૌ નિમિત્ત....

Rohit is 23 years old; he hasn’t been able to study much.

He took up a job as an assistant at a grocery store with an initial salary of Rs. 5000, which was later raised to Rs. 6000. However, this wasn’t the kind of job he enjoyed. He aspired to increase his income to provide a better life for his family but lacked the funds to pursue an independent venture.

This is the story of the Morai village of Mahisagar’s Lunawada block. Many families of Morai are in the business of growing and selling flowers. However, since they do not own land,they lease it with money borrowed from a private lender at a very high-interest rate. VSSM provided interest-free loans to 10 women farmers, so they did not have to borrow from a private lender.

Rohit also took a loan to try his hands at the flower business. At the end of the season, he made a profit of Rs. 22,000. The money, along with his savings, enabled Rohit to purchase a cow. He began bringing milk to the cooperative dairy, and within ten days, he began earning from it.

Rohit has a newfound interest in cattle farming. He took another loan from VSSM, bought a buffalo, and wishes to buy a few more cattle.

VSSM’s Vinod is compassionate towards Rohit, “Didi, I want Rohit to have a cattle farm/shed. Rohit also gears up to take up bigger responsibilities; we liked his enterprise.

Our cities cannot take the load of the growing influx of rural populations; under such circumstances strengthening the rural economies is the key. Therefore, it is desired youth like

Rohit should stay in the villages, in pollution-free environments, and create a better life for themselves and their families.

Along with his work, Rohit has volunteered to take up the responsibility of collecting the instalments from loanees of Morai village. We wish more people take up such responsibility and facilitate our work. Vinod has played an essential role in mentoring Rohit to spread his wings.

રોહીત 23 વર્ષનો.. બહુ ભણી ન શક્યો.

એક કરિયાણાની દુકાનમાં ગુમાસ્તા તરીકે કામે લાગ્યો. માસીક 5000 ને પછી 6000 પગાર થયો. પણ એનું મન એ કામમાં લાગે નહીં. એને ઝાઝા પૈસા કમાવવા હતા જેથી જીંદગી બહેતર થઈ શકે. પણ ધંધો કરવા પાસે પૈસા નહીં.

વાત છે મહિસાગરના લુણાવાડાના મોરાઈગામની. મોરાઈમાં રહેતા કેટલાક પરિવારો ફૂલોનો વેપાર કરે. પણ એમની પાસે પોતાની જમીન નહીં એ ભાગવી જમીન રાખી એમાં ખેતી કરે અને ભાગવી જમીન રાખવા પાછા વ્યાજે પૈસા લાવે. અમે દસેક બહેનોને વ્યાજે પૈસા લાવવા ન પડે તે માટે લોન આપી. 

રોહીતે પણ લોન લીધી ને ફૂલોની ખેતી કરી. ફૂલોની સીઝન પત્યા પછી એને 22,000નો નફો મળ્યો. એ પૈસામાં થોડા ઉમેરી એ એક ગાય લાવ્યો. એનું દૂધ ડેરીમાં ભરાવ્યું અને દસ દિવસે એને પગાર મળવા માંડ્યો.

રોહીતને પશુપાલનના ધંધામાં મન લાગ્યું. એણે અમારી પાસેથી બીજી લોન લીધી અને ભેંસ લાવ્યો. એની ઈચ્છા હજુ વધારે ઢોર લાવવાની.

અમારા કાર્યકર વિનોદને રોહીત માટે ઘણી લાગણી. એ કહે, દીદી મારે તો રોહીત પાસે તબેલો કરાવવો છે. રોહીત પણ હવે એ માટે સજ્જ થઈ રહ્યો છે. પણ રોહીતે કરેલું સાહસ ગમ્યું.

આજે ગામડાં છોડીને લોકો શહેર ભણી આવી રહ્યા છે. અહીંયાનું પ્રદુષણ માણસનું વહેલા ખતમ કરી નાખશે. વળી બિમારીઓ નોતરે એ તો જુદુ. પાછુ ગામડાં ભાંગવા ન જોઈએ એ વાતેય સાચી.

બસ રોહીત જેવા યુવાનો આ રીતે ગામોમાં કામ કરતા થાય એ ઈચ્છનીય..

રોહીત પોતાના ધંધાની સાથે સાથે મોરાઈગામમાં અમે જેટલી પણ લોન આપી છી તે તમામ લોનના હપ્તાની ઉઘરાણી કરવાનું કામ પણ કરે.. એ પણ પોતાની મેળે.. 

સંસ્થાના કાર્યોમાં આવા સ્વંયસેવકો જોડાય તો કામોનો વ્યાપ પણ વધે. જો કે રોહીતને આ બધા માટે તૈયાર કરવામાં વિનોદનો ફાળો મોટો... 

તો રોહીત અને વિનોદ બેઉને એમના કાર્યોમાં ખુબ આગળ વધો એવી શુભેચ્છા...
