For centuries the nomadic communities have lived and earned on their own terms. The traditional occupations they practiced allowed them to be their own boss,  but the collapse of these occupations have robbed them of their pride. The nomads of today neither have alternate skills or education or funds to venture into other occupations. If one has to work towards the rehabilitation the occupations of these communities, it is crucial to mentor and guide them towards adapting alternate livelihoods.

Our puzzle to find a solution to the chronic issue of rebuilding the  livelihoods of the nomads, one important suggestion we received from the nomadic communities was to lend them small funds that enable them to begin their own ventures. The request in a  sense reaffirmed the fact that these communities prefer to be their own boss instead of working for others or as labourers. VSSM pondered over the proposal and agreed to do so. We approached our well wishers who readily  accepted our request for funds. As the funds kept pouring in the outreach  kept increasing as well   In the past one and half years we have extended interest free loans amounting to Rs. 67 lakhs to 416  individuals from various nomadic communities. The support has proven to be life changing for the benefiting families, it has kindled their age old passion for doing their independent business. And 'once you love the job you do the passion and hard work you pour in is of a different nature.’ All these individuals are making tremendous efforts to make their businesses successful.

The hard work has managed to improve their earning capabilities but these communities aren’t good at managing their earnings. Our ultimate goal is to free them from debt bondage and to achieve this we need to make them better managers of their earnings, install the habit of regular saving. VSSM conducts regular meetings with the intention to educate on this concerns. On 22nd December 2015 a similar meeting was organised in Tharad with the financial assistance of Action Aid. Inder Modi, an IIM graduate and businessman, Mardaviben Patel, who resides in the US and is a businesswoman, Sushilaben, Nagin and Siyon from Action Aid and Ishwarbhai, Naran, Mahesh and Paresh from VSSM and around 150 individuals who had taken interest free loan from VSSM participated in the meeting.

The beneficiaries talked about their experiences and the scope of their enterprise. VSSM is determined to extend interest free loans to as many deserving individuals as possible. We are thankful for the whole hearted support of our donors to enable this dream come true…..

સદીઓથી પોતાના પરંપરાગત વ્યવસાયના આધારે નભતા વિચરતા પરિવારોના વ્યવસાય હવે પડી ભાંગ્યા છે. નવા વ્યવસાય માટે આર્થિક સગવડ નથી. શિક્ષણ તો છે જ નહિ. વળી કોઈના ત્યાં મજૂરી કરવાનું પણ આ સમુદાયની ઘણી જાતિઓએ કર્યું નથી. પોતાના સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય થકી જ આ પરિવારો જીવ્યા છે. ત્યારે એમનું પુન:વસન થવું અથવા એમને નવી દિશા ચીંધવાનું કરવું અત્યંત જરૂરી છે.

આ પરિવારોએ રોજગારીના ઉકેલ રૂપે સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય કરવાનું જ વધારે પસંદ હોવાનું કહ્યું અને એ માટે લોનની માંગ કરી. vssm દ્વારા વગર વ્યાજની લોન આપવાનું નક્કી થયું. દાતાઓનો સહયોગ મળતો ગયો અને કામ આગળ વધતું ગયું. છેલા દોઢ વર્ષમાં આપણે ૪૧૬ લોકોને ૬૭ લાખ રૂપિયાની વગર વ્યાજની લોન આપી અને સૌ ખુબ સુંદર રીતે પોતાનો વ્યવસાય આગળ ધપાવી રહ્યાં છે.

આ પરિવારો લોન લઈને વ્યવસાય તો કરે છે પણ આયોજન અને બચત કરવાનું તેઓ કરતાં નથી. આમ વખતો વખત એમના વ્યવસાયને સમજી એમને ઈનપુટ આપવાનું કામ vssm દ્વારા બેઠકો કરીને કરવામાં આવે છે. તા.૨૨ ડીસેમ્બર ૨૦૧૫ના રોજ આવી એક શિબિર એક્શન એઇડ સંસ્થાના આર્થિક સહયોગથી થરાદમાં યોજાઈ ગઈ. જેમાં IIMમાંથી મેનેજમેન્ટ ભણેલા અને પોતાનો સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય કરતા ઇન્દ્ર મોદી, USAમાં રહેતાં અને પોતાનો સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય ધરાવતાં શ્રી માર્દવીબેન પટેલ, એક્શન એઇડ સંસ્થામાંથી સુશીલાબેન, નગીન અને સીયોન તથા vssmની બનાસકાંઠા જીલ્લાની ટીમ શારદાબેન, ઈશ્વરભાઈ, નારણ, મહેશ અને પરેશ સાથે વિચરતી જાતિના અને vssmમાંથી લોન લઈને સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય કરનાર ૧૫૦ ઉપરાંત લોન ધારકો ઉપસ્થિત રહ્યાં હતા.

બેઠકમાં સૌએ પોત પોતાના અનુભવો. પોતાના વ્યવસાયમાં સ્કોપ વગેરે બાબતે વિગતે વાત કરી હતી. vssm નવા વ્યવસાય શોધી હજુ વધારે લોકોને પગભર કરી શકે એ માટે પ્રયત્નશીલ છે. ૪૧૬ લોકોને પગભર કરવામાં મદદરૂપ થનાર સૌ દાતાઓનો આ તબક્કે આભાર વ્યક્ત કરું છું.
